School Based Magazines
1. School based magazines
School based magazines are a way that a school can promote themselves
to parents and students within their school community. It can also be used
to promote the schools through the use of propaganda to persuade new
parents and students to come and choose to attend their school, around
the time when open evenings are taking place as schools are wanting to
make them selves stand out from the other schools and attract more
parents to their school.
There are a range of different school based magazines that can be created
such as whole school ones such as āPinch of Saltā where they include
different articles within it that are relate to the whole school such as
performances, school trips and volunteering outside of school etc. Another
example is a sixth form based magazine where they are focusing all of the
content towards sixth form students, meaning that there will be bits of
content that wonāt be included in the whole school magazine as they
arenāt relevant for everyone such as revision tips or when deadlines for
certain subjects are. The final kind of school magazine is a parent based
one, where there will be tips on how to support students through their
exams, how to support them through times when they are choosing their
options and how to help them succeed in the best that they can.
2. School magazines have a great educational value as they encourage
students to think and write for the magazine. This allows them to develop
their writing their skills and encourages their creativity when writing.
A school magazineās main purposes are to provide advice and support for
studnets both within sixth form, and students who may be feeling the
pressure with the step up between year 9 and starting their GCSEs or the
students who are coming up to taking their GCSEs in the summer. To show
off the outstanding achievements that the students have achieved both
insde and outside of school. To convince parents that this school is
capable of providing thier child with the best eduction available within the
local area and to provide information for the students who are choosing
both GCSE and A Level options and how to choose the correct one for
them so that when they open their results two years later they will be
increadably proud of their success.
School Magazines are similar to most magazine conventions including
music ones. There are just a few factors that make them more unique and
suitable for the audience it is aimed at. Which is primarily the students,
followed by the parents and carers of the students. For example school
magazies are always going to be making school seem like a fun and
exciting place so that they are inticing their students into wanting to come
to school and learn each day. Within each edition there will be the areas
that are based more on targeting the parents which will have been
3. adjusted so that they are very positive which is keeping within the tone of
the whole magazine, as well as looking polished and professionsal so that
the parents will beattracted to the magazine and will want to read it.
To make sure that they are making an attractive magazine like when
creating any other magazine cover the school needs to include at least
these key features which include a Mast head, strap line and coverline to
help draw in the attention. A main image to support the stories included
inside as well as make it look eyecatching. Other possible features they
could include are a barcode, and other not as important coverlines to help
make the magazine look intreaging and full of important information that
will be of a great knowledge to both a student or parent.
