1. Mission Statement.
My magazine is called ‘Student-Room’ and is aimed at sixth form students aged 16-19. The
magazine has a sophisticated yet bright and vibrant style, using the colours blue and green
frequently to add a punch of excitement and to ensure my target audiences attention is drawn to
my magazine, wanting to read it. It is appropriate for my age range as it is not completely text
based, it is filled with colourful images which link to the text to make sure it is easy and simple to
understand, yet educational and filled with information without it being boring.
‘Student-Room’ has a variety of goals which should be met such as, being able to educate and
inform the audience, to give out tips and extra support, to provide up to date news from the
school and exciting gossip which the students will love. It also aims to fill the students with
plenty of ideas on how to prepare themselves for the future and make them aware of extra
curricular activities which may suit them and expand their wider learning and experience.
It will be distributed monthly in the student common room so all students will be able to see it
and obtain it. The magazine promises to provide all the information the students need to help
them through school life and to fill them with entertainment
The topics inside my magazine will vary. From, school survival, extra curricular activities,
outside school for example, jobs and university advice. By including lots about school survival
will help my target audience and allow them to understand all students are feeling the same and
that they can confide in my magazine for comfort and a chance to seek help. This would appeal
to those struggling to cope with for example coursework deadlines, revision or homework as
they may not know how complete everything without getting stressed. Including simple ideas
such as a revision timetable would really make a difference to those students as the magazine
helps them get organised, highlighting its friendly brand identity. My magazine is a helping hand
for these students, willing to guide them through it and calm them down.
All these are looked at throughout my magazine; it includes everything the students will need
and more!
Finally, my magazine will benefit my target audience because it ensures all students can
understand and relate to the magazine as all the topics inside are relevant to their everyday life
and successful future ahead. It will benefit my target audience through the use of entertainment,
not only is it all about stressful school situations, it gives them a chance to escape from school
life and be entertained through the use of light hearted aspects such the ‘winning teacher selfie
of the week’ and tips on outside school activities and driving lesson advice.
