3. The front cover consists of a big title and is coloured in white to
make it stand out and show clearly to the readers what the
magazine is called without having to go through much effort. If
that was the case, many people would give up and not bother,
which would mean the magazine would lose money and readers.
Also on the front cover there is a picture of a young school girl in
her uniform, to represent the idea of this being a school magazine
clearly. This image takes up a lot of the page, which could be to
advertise and make the magazine more appealing as just words can
bore some readers. Some of the specific topics that are featured in
the magazine are written in different fonts and different colours to
show the difference between each one. Also they are clearly
dotted around the page and not all clumped together, as that does
not look appealing on the front cover. The language used is proper
English and has been clearly written, as this magazine would
mainly attract adults with children going to school. This means that
they would mainly understand clearly spoken words that is
readable to them, and if it wasn’t they wouldn’t buy the magazine.
This means that the magazine would lose money and decrease the
popularity of the magazine, so they specifically include what there
target market would want. The colours used are bright and colours
that strand out on the dark background for example white and
yellow. These colours attract peoples eyes and incline them to buy
the magazine.
The price of the magazine has been stated under title and is small
so people are not put off by the price.
The date and issue number are also mentioned clearly under the
title on the front cover which for many people is a necessity to
know.

The magazine is successful because the font and
writing is clear and can be read easily. Also there
isn't excessive amount of writing on the front cover
because people are more attracted to colour and
images as they may get bored with lots of writing.
Also the magazine has clearly stated that there are
articles on GCSE results, being new to a school and
having teenage stress and information on schools,
which shows that they have successfully covered the
main subjects that people look for and need to know
if they intend on buying that magazine.
Some improvements of this magazine could be
making the issue number and date bigger so it is
easier for people to read, as people need to know
this information, and for some people it is too small
to read easily.

5. Analyse the contents: Evaluate the success:
The front cover includes an image of a boy and a girl
dressed smartly. They could represent going to
school or being in education. This magazine then
attracts people who got to school, or parents of
children who do.
The title is big and is a dark colour to make it stand
out from the light background. It is clear and
readable so that the reader can easily see the name
of the magazine without any hassle. This attracts
more customers because they don’t want to have to
go searching for the right magazine because they
might give up and not bother buying it, decreasing
the money and popularity of that magazine. The
main colour used on the front cover is purple, which
is relevant because purple is associated as a royal
colour.
The magazine shows that the school is quite posh
and that the students being well-dressed shows that
the school take pride and care about how the
students are dressed, as they are the main factor of
representing the school.
The magazine is quite successful because it includes a big
masthead and shows clearly what is included in the
magazine with clear fonts and readable colours. Also the
magazine is free, so more people would be inclined to
take one, which increases the knowledge of the school to
different people.
Some improvements to this magazine would be to include
the date and issue number, so people could keep up to
date with the correct magazine for that school. Also
include a wed address so if people find it easier to
research it online, they have that option to do so. Lastly I
would suggest to rearrange the layout of the front cover
as things are a bit jumbled up and it looks a bit messy.
But overall the magazine was okay, just has a few
improvements that it needs to address.

7. Task 3:
Analysis of previous work
Based on the ‘Press’ magazine, I can see that is successful in many ways, looing at both
the front cover and contents page. Both are of equally high standard and are aesthetically
pleasing to the eye. They have a good representation of the school and the fact that the
magazine is of this high quality, shows that the school is just as good, which is good for
advertisement of the school.
Firstly looking at the front cover, the big clear masthead is in a good location, as it is
visible for the reader and not too small so the reader struggles to work out what it says,
but it is also not too big where it takes up unnecessary space on the front cover. This may
put off some people as they are not as interested in the title, but what is within the
magazine instead. The large image on the front is what people are mainly attracted to as
it gives a feel as to what the students of the school may look like, or that the emotions on
their face represent how they are feeling. The fact that the boy is slightly smiling and
doesn’t look sad adds a feel to the reader that he may enjoy his school, or that he is not
sad or distressed to be attending there.
The clear and visible subheadings to the left of the image shows what is in the magazine,
so people can look at the cover and decide whether or not there is any point of carrying
on reading this magazine, or whether it would be beneficial to them. They are written in
a clear and easy font so that they are there and people can instantly read them with no
trouble. High quality magazines are the ones where people find them the easiest top read
and understand, as that is why people read them to gain information about that subject,
so people don’t want to have to struggle or even have little trouble trying to read it,
otherwise they might not even bother and then the opportunity is gone for them. The
colour scheme of the front cover is also successful as it applies to all people, and us an
easy and acceptable colour to read and look at.
Some improvements for the front cover could be a bit more colour to the page to make it
more appealing. But overall the front cover is well laid and out and is a suitable first page
for representing a school.
8. Looking next at the contents, they have done a creative job and have tried to
make the reader feel as if they would enjoy reading the magazine with the
different pictures and different fonts for each subject. This is also good because it
makes an easy divide that would be clearly shown to the reader, which makes it
obvious as to which topic is where in the magazine, making it an easier job for
the reader to find. The numbers appointed to each topic are clear and make the
magazine look more sophisticated as well.
The picture near the top of the page is children laughing and smiling, which has a
good representation of the school, as it shows the children are happy being at
the school environment and this increases the chance of the parent/carer
sending there child to this school, as there is a high quality view shown through
the magazine.
The contents page overall is just played out very well, and is of a high quality
when you look at it. It looks like quite a classy magazine, that belongs to a good
school that knows what there doing.
Some improvements to this magazine could be to maybe bring out the magazine
title a bit more, so people are always reminded of the name. Also maybe using
different fonts or colours to further separate the different categories of
information, but overall it is well written and well laid out, and is suitable and
appropriate for a school magazine.

9. Task 4:
Target Audience The target audience of my magazine is aimed at the school students which are aged 11-18, as this is
the ages you will be at school from the start of year 7 until the end of sixth form. Also the magazine
focuses around what is happening when they're there, so they would want to know.
Possible title ideas Some possible title ideas could be ‘PRIORY CENTRAL’ or ‘PRIORY NEWS’.
Main image An image of a student at a medium close up shot smiling and looking happy to represent the school looking like a
happy and welcoming place. Also it is to show the school in a good light and show that the students are happy
attending the school. The image should be colourful and bright so that it shows a good light on the school.
Main cover line The main story will be about the recent year 11’s receiving their GCSE results.
Additional key images There will be an image of the priory school logo in the top corner and also images of students working in
the classrooms to show the types of environments the students will be working in. Also maybe some
pictures of the school to show the inside and what it consists of.
Additional cover lines It will talk about events and the lastest achievements made by specific students in the school. Also th
new rules and regulations being enforced in the school, for example the consequence system and the
new school rules.
Typography The font for the title will be quite fancy, but for the writing it will be quite plain so people can read it easily.
The colours will be clear but also related to the school, for example red and white. The sizes will be
enough to read but not too much where it takes up an unnecessary amount of the page.
Background colour/image The background will consist of just a plain colour because otherwise it will take the focus of the main
image, which is the most important.
Technical considerations Photoshop will be used for the images and the students will not need to use costumes as they will be in
there uniform. Also the lighting can be determined and changed on photoshop if the natural light isn't
good enough.
