The website uses a simple black and white theme to provide a chilled representation of the band, in contrast to the excitable video. The simplistic layout allows easy navigation. A black and white color scheme was chosen based on research of similar bands and feedback. Images include a copyright-free stock photo of a performance to emphasize the band's musical talent. The band's name, social media links, navigation bar, news, band details, and music are prominently featured. A moving gallery shows behind-the-scenes video images. The video is included but does not autoplay. A calendar lists tour dates. The website aims to promote the band and video through complementary design and content.
How the Combination of Product and Texts Builds Effectiveness
1. How effective is the combination of your main
product and ancillary texts?
Overall layout/theme-
For the website we decided to use a
more simplistictheme and create a
more 'chilled out' representation to
the band, as the video reflected the
excitable and rebellious side to the
band, we wanted the website to be
very simple and to the point so the
fans could see all sides of the band
members. The simplisticeffect also
allowed for everything to be easily
accessed on the website,this would
appeal to audience members who
want a website that is clear and easy
to navigate.
Colour scheme-
We decided to use a black and white
theme for the website as we found
from our research that this looked
effective on previous alternative rock
artist websites such as Biffly Clyro.
The black and white design also
proved popular on our questionnaire
and with our focus group. This colour
scheme also combines with the
digipak in which we also used black
and white. We have the used same
font for the band name 'Pegasus
Bridge' as on the digipak, this is to
reinforce the brand identity by
making the band name iconic to the
audience.
Image at the top of the website- Themain
image at the top of the website is a copy
right free image that I found on the
website âcanvaâ. It is a low angle shot of
instruments/ a band performing on stage.
I decided to use this image as it a typical
convention ofan alternative rockband
website to show performance images.
However, as we had not had the
opportunity to take an image similar to
this ourselves, Ihad to find a copy right
free image to create the same effect. I
decided to have this image at the top of
the website to emphasise the bands
musicaltalent, although we did not use a
performanceaspect of the video, it still
clearly reflects the genre. However,it
might not link as strongly to the music
video as the digipak. I decided it was
important to have a performanceimage
to show this side of the band that the
audience had yet to see in the music
video. Furthermore, a performance image
would further persuadethe audienceto
buy tour tickets, which are advertise and
encouraged on the website.
Top of the website- Underneaththe image at
the top of the page is a black banner with the
band name âPEGASUS BRIDGEâ in white
capitals. Next to this, is the bands social
media icons. This encourages the audienceto
follow the band on all forms of socialmedia,
this would appealto the target audience as
part of a younger generation who are
constantly on socialmedia. Underneath this,
is the navigation bar with âHome, Music,
Photos, Video, Upcoming Shows, Contact and
Join nowâ. I used this as it a standard
convention ofa bandâs website. In the centre
of the page, I have positioned a news pop up
which has a quote taken froma magazine
âinterviewâ with the band. This is to highlight
the bands success to the audience. Next to this
on the right is a details section, with a brief
description of the band including where they
originated from, their genreand their label
details. This is to remind the audience of the
bands roots, which relates to the nostalgic feel
of the digipak. This is reinforced throughâWe
Areâ section which has further information
about the band members individually.Middle of the website-In the middle of
the website, I have positioned the bandâs
music details. I have included the bands
album cover and a hyperlink to the bands
iTunes where the audience can buy this
straight away. This reinforces the bandâs
brand identity, as the audience would
recognise that this the bands album cover
from the digipak. Next to this, I have also
included a link of the song like dogsâ on
the bands Soundcloud page, wherethe
audience can listen to the song for free.
This would appealto the audience as
young people especially are unwilling to
pay for music, Soundcloud allows themto
hear it for free. However, if they want to
buy the album they still have to pay for it
on iTunes.

Gallery-Ihave inserted a moving
gallery of images which show a
constant slide of images of the band.
The image shown in this shot is an
image that is recognisable to video, of
the band members messing around in
the Skate Park. This would appeal to
the audience as it shows behind the
scenes images from the video,
promoting the band and the video at
the same time.
Bottom of the page- At the bottom of the page, the
video is shown which when clicked willbe played. I
decided to make sure that the video didnât play
automatically as I found when researching that this
is very distracting and annoying and takes away
from the rest of the website. The website combines
wellwith the video as can be used to promote the
video through the use of the video and behind the
scenes images from the video.
Calendar- A calendar is included at the bottom of
the website to that the audience can easily access
available dates for when they can see the band on
tour.
