How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? By Holly Taylor

As Hayley (my artist) is making the transition from being in a rock/indie band with a specialised market to becoming a mainstream solo, pop artist.

Due to this I felt I had to make a progression with her image to re-brand her but without losing her current identity to much, as this is what makes her so unique and successful when in the band.

Therefore the products I have made this being the music video, digipack and the website will all have a strong link between each other, in order for 're-branding' to work properly.

Links between the ancillary texts

Website; used as a promotional tool as it features the video (link)

The main link here is the colour scheme that I have carried throughout my 3 tasks. As I went for a magical, natural theme for my music video, I wanted to keep everything white, this makes everything look innocent and I can increase the brightness to give a perfect finish on everything.

Also by adding pictures on to the website of her photo shoot, including the final album cover this creates a link between the album cover and the website.

Hopefully this will mean that when people see either one of the two they will associate it will the other one and this will lead Hayley to having a bigger fan base.

Another link from the website to the music video is having the actually music video on the homepage of the website means fans can view the song for free.

As you can see the white background which is a theme throughout my 3 tasks. After doing research into websites I realised the kind of photos that are displayed on the home page of the artists websites. This inspired me to edit a photo (the one above) in this way. There is still an element of the codes and conventions of indie genre, this being the colour black but it has been made into more of a pop artists picture by the glamour of it. The butterfly represents her career being 'reborn'.

Digipack;

Between the digipack and the music video there are a lot of links.

Set (woods)

Using colours to have a feel of innocence

Fairy tale concept- back cover of digipack has a fairy book on it.

Brightness, contrast and colour are the same in all.

The three media products I have created for Hayley allows people to see her as a new upcoming artist as there is a clear brand from the three tasks that are all linked. This is very effective for her sales as people start to associate the artist with different things which increases a fan base. The only issue is, due to the decline of CD sales, why would anybody want to buy the album if they can watch it for free on either the website or youtube? However money will be made from concert which is now a popular way of making money.
