Magazine proposal
1. Magazine proposal
The magazine that I intend to create is a women’s health magazine, with images
of women with different ethnicities and different roles of life. The idea is to
gather images of very maternal looking women, work orientated women, healthy
women and so forth. I want the theme of the magazine to be about the healthy
lifestyle and roles of different women. The writing content would consist of their
story and how they came to be the women they are. I think that a formal style of
writing would be the best way for this magazine, as it is quite a mature theme.
The colour scheme would be simple compared to a bright and bold magazine; I
would prefer a more calm background and perhaps a few areas of a bold colour,
or a type of pastel toned theme. I don’t plan to have my front page busy, but
rather something more elegant. I feel that less will be more with this magazine,
therefore I want some central focuses to be emphasised such as the main person
and a title.
The images would obviously be all of women, however they will be of a range of
women and not focusing on one group. I have decided to take images of he
teachers at my school, because it would be easier to ask their permission and
tackle any legal issues. We have a diverse range of cultural women at our school,
which will also benefit my magazine to explore their lifestyles and backgrounds.
They will be in their everyday work clothes, because I want to capture the reality
of their lives. The socioeconomic target audience for my magazine is probably
between C2 and C1, because it will typically be for women who are quite
educated and very maternal women. This socioeconomic grouping involves
skilled working class for C2, which might include working moms. C1 might
include heads of departments in school and also managers of companies.
The legal and ethical issues will not be a major problem because I do not intend
to dress my models in any brand or display a logo of a particular business. Even
though my magazine is specifically for women, I do not believe it will raise any
gender concerns because it is not necessarily degrading men. Some students may
appear in my magazine but there will not be any legal issues because all of the
students will be over 16 years of age.
