How does your
media product
represent a
particular
social group?
Women are a social group that I am trying to
attract to this magazine. I think that having a
woman on the front cover of a Grime
magazine is very different but yet influential
as generally only male rappers are featured
on front covers.
I made a point to have my model dress up in
a snapback and minimal make up as I wanted
her to look like a normal and natural
teenager, by doing this I thought that it
would make it easier for the readers to relate
to her. Also because in the interview she
states that she is just a normal teenage girl
from South London with a dream.
I think that the way that she represents her
self will reflect the thoughts of the reader as
this magazine is for music enthusiasts that
are interested in the reasons behind and the
making of good music. Having said that, this
is a Grime magazine and the majority of
Grime fans are males. So this magazine is
targeted toward teenagers as a whole but
specifically at women that feel left out in the
industry because it is mostly male stream.
I styled my model in a particular way so that
she looks laid back and approachable, I want
the readers to be able to relate to her, and
again, I wanted it to be clear that she is more
interested in making music than looking
‘styling’ which is why I dressed her very simple.
Teenagers are a broader target audience for
this magazine. As well as being very hard
working, she is also a fun individual which
may appeal to teenagers.
I have included a few other male artists in my
contents page to hopefully attract young men.
In this interview, Ria is displayed as a good role model to young women of the working class and
teenagers. She is shown to be very hard working and passionate about what she does. It’s a positive
aspect for teenagers as it shows them that they can actually come from nothing at all and make
something of themselves. If someone isn’t academically able they could have other talents, it
shouldn't’t always lead to crime. She also acknowledge her luck and gratitude for the fact that she
gets to live her dream and be a successful musician, there are all qualities a role model should have.
