Health Issues Bullying By Christina Ung ^_^
What is Health ‘ The English word "health" comes from the Old English word hale, meaning "wholeness, a being whole, sound or well,". Hale comes from the Proto-Indo-European root kailo, meaning "whole, uninjured, of good omen". Kailo comes from the Proto-Germanic root khalbas, meaning "something divided". Medilexicon'smedical dictionary has three definitions for health, the first being "The state of the organism when it functions optimally without evidence of disease or abnormality’ OR "Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." The most famous modern definition of health was created during a Preamble to the Constitution of the World Health Organization as adopted by the International Health Conference, New York, 19-22 June, 1946; signed on 22 July 1946 by the representatives of 61 States (Official Records of the World Health Organization, no. 2, p. 100) and entered into force on 7 April 1948. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/150999.php
What forms of health is there. Physical:-Physical health is has to do with the how your physical body operates. A normal body weight, good vision, healthy skin, proper dental conditions, good neuro-muscular coordination, etc. are things in order for someone to operate normal. Mental:-Mental health is when you look at a person’s state of mind. A healthy mind is free from stress, tensions, conflicts, confusions, depression, etc. Social:-Social health is how a person adjust to the society and environment around him/her. An example of person who is socially unhealthy is a person that is bullied. http://bodyfitnesshealth.com/types-of-health-physical-mental-and-social/
What is Bullying? ‘Bullying is when someone (or a group of people) with more power than you, repeatedly and intentionally uses negative words and/or actions against you, which causes you distress and risks your wellbeing. Bullying is a serious problem. In Australian schools bullying affects approximately one student in every four.1 Bullying can be very harmful and it should not be part of anyone's growing up.’ National Centre Against Bullying Cross, D., Shaw, T., Hearn, L., Epstein, M., Monks, H., Lester, l., & Thomas, L. 2009. Australian Covert Bullying Prevalence Study (ACBPS). Child Health Promotion Research Centre, Edith Cowan University, Perth. http://www.ncab.org.au/Page.aspx?ID=86

How does it affect the health of those involved? Being bullied can seriously affect a child's physical and mental health In the short term: Anger, Depression, Anxious avoidance of settings in which bullying may occur, Greater incidence of illness, Lower grades than non bullied peers, Suicidal thoughts and feelings. In the long term: Reduced occupational opportunities, Lingering feelings of anger and bitterness, desire for revenge, Difficulty trusting people, Interpersonal difficulties, including fear and avoidance of new social situations, Increased tendency to be a loner, Perception of self as easy to victimize, overly sensitive, and thin-skinned , Self-esteem problems, Increased incidence of continued bullying and victimization, A few interesting observations of factors that seem to lessen the negative impact that bullying has on people have come to my attention during the process of cataloguing the ways that bullying can mess you up. http://www.mentalhelp.net/poc/view_doc.php?type=doc&id=13057
