2. TARGET AUDIENCE
The target audience of my media product as
previously stated is teenagers to young adults,
between the ages of 16-26. The magazine is
also aimed at both male and females. I had to
ensure that my final product was suitable and
correct to address the stated demographic. I
took inspiration from other music magazines I
had researched such as NME and Kerrang.
Researching these magazines was beneficial
to my final product as I was able to research
the way they address their audience who are
of a similar demographic to my magazine.
3. MODELS
I’ve been able to address the younger
demographic of my magazine through the
models I have used. I have used a girl of
similar age to the target audience as the
main cover model, making the content of
the magazine relatable and relevant to the
target audience. I have also included an
image of male artist on the contents page as
the target audience of the magazine is both
male and female. This stops the magazine
from limiting the demographic to just
females.
4. COLOUR SCHEME
The colour scheme also reflects that
it is aimed at both a male and
female audience. I have used the
colour scheme of red, black and
white, which are colours that aren’t
aimed a one specific gender. The
use of this colour scheme attracts
both a male and female audience
and doesn’t restrict magazines
audience compared to other
magazines that are aimed clearly at
one gender.
5. PHOTOGRAPHY
Although my main cover model is a female
I didn’t just want the main demographic of
the magazine to just be aimed at females.
To ensure this didn’t happen I have made
sure through the mise en scene and overall
look of the image doesn’t look overly
feminine. I have presented a quite
masculine look as the main cover model is
wearing a black leather jacket and
through the facial expression as it is more of
a stern look compared to a stereotypical
female expression of smiling. Femininity can
be seen through the mascara which
highlights the eyes and the long blonde
hair.
6. MUSIC GENRE
The genre of music featured in my
magazine is primarily alternative/rock and
pop genre. I wanted to attract a wide,
more mainstream audience to the
magazine. I thought this would be
achievable by including different genres
of music. I used the results from my
questionnaire in order to find out what
genres of music were most popular and
featured them in my magazine through
the artists I choice to feature. On the front
cover I featured artists such as Fall Out
Boy, 30 Seconds to Mars and Lana Del
Rey which present different styles and
genres of music.
