Question 2 evaluation
1. QUESTION 2
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
I have deliberately chosen
particular clothes for the characters
to wear for the photography so
that it reflected a particular social
group – teenagers. The clothes
worn in the images are typical
brands that teenagers are likely to
wear, e.g Adidas and Nike.
I think that by using typical clothing
brands it would draw the audience in
more because they would feel like if
they wanted to dress like the character
then they easily can do.
Clothing is usually the way
teenagers are usually presented
in the media which is what
influenced me to do the same.
If the characters were wearing
adult type clothing then the
magazine would automatically
look like it is aiming at an older
target audience because of the
way it is being presented to the
reader. Even though this is
being stereotypical, it is an easy
way to clearly get across to the
reader who the audience is
targeted at.
Muse Mag follows the
representation of how
teenagers dress. I find this
important because my
aim was to make the
reader feel welcome and
comfortable reading the
magazine. If the reader
likes the way the
characters dress then they
are more likely to reader
the magazine because
they have already seen
something they are
interested in.
The colours I have used for the magazine also represent a
younger social group. The main colours include black, white and
red which are bold, bright and eye catching colours. This would
represent a particular social group because these colours are
usually associated with teenagers/young adults. Bright colours
attract younger audiences typically.
The fonts I have used in Muse Mag’s
articles and contents page are quite
bubbly and none formal. This links to
my target audience because a less
formal title will reflect the social group
that Muse Mag is targeted at. If the
fonts were formal, it would make the
wrong impression towards the reader
because it would look less fun.
The main article in Muse Mag is about a female artist who wrote a new album
whilst going through a break up. This typically represents young adults because
this relates to situations that teenagers are likely to go through. There is also a
chance to win a ticket to V Festival, this is a pop music festival that mainly young
adults attend. This is another representation of who the target audience are.
I have positioned the characters
carefully in the images so that it
represents young adults. The way
the characters are stood/sat give a
younger vibe towards Muse Mag
which hints at what the audience is.
