2. Content Title
This gives the reader a
vague idea of what the
story is about but is
accompanied by the
sub-line to entice the
reader into the story
Sub-line
This is helpful for the reader as
it tells them what the story is
about.
Sub Headings
Red boxes are used to
make the headings
stand out. This change
in style ‘informs’ (Katz)
the reader of the
change in topic of
category of the
contents.
Page number
This is presented in
small text size in the
corner so it is barely
noticeable. This makes
sure that it doesn't get
in the way of the main
part of the page.
Main Image –
The image is used to form the
background, however because
the mans head is in front of the
issue details it generates a 3D
effect that interests the reader.
3. What language does it contain- the editorial uses
appraising language for the first section where it talks about
“Siouxsie and the banshees” such as “something radical and new”.
This shows that the editor is enthusiastic about the main story in
the magazine and sheers the same passion foe the subject that the
readers have. This creates a personal relationship between the
reader and the editor.
What mode of
address does the
editorial use- the made
of address is formal and also
engaging as it talks about the
free CD on offer and the
exclusivity of it, being complied
by siouxie her self. The
editorial is inviting because it
introduces the main story and
uses the word “invite” at the
end. This use of that word
makes it a lot more friendly
and make you want to read on.
building a ‘personal relationship’ (Katz) with the readership- there is the
editors signature at the bottom the editorial, this creates a relationship as it shows the reader the real
side of them. There is also the contact details of the magazine which allows the reader to tell MOJO what
they think of the magazine, there is also an invitation to do this at the top of the editorial, this reaffirms
this wanting to here from the readership.
4. Drop Capital-
This is used to look attractive and to make people read the next part of text.
The drop cap in the magazine is black and in the same font as the text so it
does not the attractive gaol as much but instead it does follow the house
style of the magazine.
Main Image –
The shot type for the
main image is a medium
close up shot, the
image covers the first
page to make it clear
who the interview is
about, by showing the
artist the reader can
have a stronger
relationship with them.
Stand First –
Is the introduction to the
interview and entices the
reader. This is in red
text to draw attention
to it.
The content-
The questions are imbedded in
the text so that it flows and
there are descriptive pieces
within to build the pasture of
what is happening in the
interview. This building of the
picture helps the reader
imagine being with the ‘star’
and this forms a relationship
with them as well. The picture
also helps accomplish this as
well.
Differentiated question and answers-
The questions and answers are not differentiated as they have no
deferent font, colour or size to the rest of the article. This makes it
harder to identify the questions but the way it is written does indicate
the change
5. Contents Page Conclusion
• I will try to ‘replicate’ (Neale – 1980)
the main image technique, using it as
the background, as this is a very
clever technique and have a positive
reaction from the reader.
• I will also ‘repeat’ the uses of
coloured boxes to highlight the sub-
headings because this is very
affective at breaking up the contents
into a logical order.
• Finally, I will ‘repeat’ the use of witty
content titles because this will
engage the reader.
6. Editorial conclusion
• I will ‘repeat’ the invitation
to contact the magazine as
this is a common and
affective method of forming
a bond with the readers.
• I will ‘repeat’ the use of a
signature as it forms a
relationship between the
reader and the editor
• I will ‘repeat’ the formal but
engaging language as this is
professional and suitable
for this genre.
7. DPS Conclusion
• I would ‘repeat’ the convention used
for the main image because it is a
clear and simple way of showing
what the page is about.
• I will also ‘repeat’ the stand first
including quotes from the ‘star’ as it
is an effective way to draw attention
• Finally, I will ‘repeat 'the mode of
address being formal but using
expletives and/or abbreviations if
that is used in the response.
