The document analyzes magazine front covers and contents pages. It discusses various design elements like mastheads, backgrounds, images, cover lines, and splashes and how they are used to attract readers. The masthead is the biggest text placed in the center top to identify the magazine. Images are used to create social interaction and cover lines in bold colors advertise the articles. Splashes near the top offer exclusive content to encourage purchases. Fonts, colors, and layouts are designed to clearly present information and guide readers through the magazine.
2. Masthead – this is biggest piece of text
and its positioned in the center of the
magazine at the top of the page. This has
been published with two different fonts as
it makes the masthead unique and stand
out.
Background – it is a solid colour of blue and this
makes the magazine look clear and could easily be
noticed as the color is quite settle but
compliments what's happening elsewhere on the
magazine. This also makes it easier for the text to
stand out and promotes more people to be
attracted by it.
Image – it has been published for the
image to look directly at the audience and
into the camera and this identifies a social
interaction with the audience.
Cover lines – these are positioned on the side
of the magazine and in bold, capitalized text so
they stand out. These can be identified due to
them being different colours, pink and black,
as they don’t tend to cover the image so they
are easily recognizable. These are used to tell
the audience buying the magazine what they
will be reading about in brief statements.
Splash – this is positioned near to the top of
the page, underneath the masthead due to
the masthead being one of the first things
you look at. It is large and clear which makes
it noticeable. It offers exclusive things in the
magazine that encourage the audience to buy
it as its offering something extra.
3. Masthead – It’s the biggest piece of text
and is placed in the centre at the top of the
magazine. Part of the image is covering
what the masthead says but the reader will
still know and recognize the name of the
magazine. This is because its such a well
known magazine that even though its
covered it still attracts people.
Background – it is a solid colour of white
and this makes the magazine easy to read
and clear to the reader when they pick it
up and check out what articles are there.
This also makes it easier for the text to
stand out and promotes more people to be
attracted by it.
Splash – this is positioned near to the bottom of
the page and during the middle as they are eye
catching and very noticeable as one of them is in
red which isn't a colour used frequently
throughout the front cover of the magazine. They
are large and clear which makes it easy to spot as
it offers exclusive things in the magazine that
encourage the audience to buy it as its offering
something extra.
Image – this celebrity is looking directly into the
camera showing a direct address with the reader,
this makes them want to buy and read this due
to the fact they have been drawn to the main
feature of the magazine. Also as this is a famous
celebrity it can attract the audience who aspire
to be like her and are influenced by them.
Cover lines – these are positioned on the side
of the magazine and in bold, capitalized text
so they stand out. They are in a range of
colours of black, pink and red which stands
out due to the background being white. They
are not all the same text so the individual
articles stand out but they haven't used to
many different fonts to the point where it
becomes confusing and distracts the reader
from focusing.
4. Colour – the theme is red and black which
matches the outfit modelled in the middle
of the page. Due to this it makes the
image become the main focus
Subheadings – these are in bold red
which makes them stand out as the
writing is in black.
Masthead- the magazines logo ’Vogue’ is
positioned at the top of the page and is on top
of the picture which can be recognized as
similar to the front cover layout.
Fonts – the second title which says ‘COVER
STORIES’ is in a different font and in a
bright red this is so the font stays limited
but not the same as the masthead.
Image – the main image is displayed in the top
left corner taking up most of the page, this is
done to break up the page from just being
writing. The image also gives more information
on what the picture links to particularly the
articles. Its also highlighting how this image is
the main feature of the magazine. Its also
creating an affect for the colour scheme.
Background – this is a plain white
background which makes the text on the
page stand out.
Page Numbers – the numbers that are
featured within the text are in italics, this
makes it eye catching compared to it
being printed in a normal and plain font.
It also separates the text by separating
them into paragraphs. The numbers are
vital as they indicate to the reader where
to find certain articles easily. After the
page numbers there is a description to
what each article will be about and this
keeps the reader interested.
5. Date - the issue date has been printed
underneath the masthead making it seem
important. This will communicate to the reader
that this is a summer inspired magazine and will
be different to another issue of ‘GLAMOUR’
Image – the main image is a major part of the
contents page which means how it is a major
theme throughout the magazine as it the
biggest and only image there. The image is also
styled for summer and the caption on it is
intriguing as it says ‘have a pretty summer’
which is something that many teen girls/women
aspire to. So this means that the image is
relatable to the target audience.
Masthead – is presented in a colour
contrast of different shades of pink
and this is eye catching as it attracts
the readers attention.
Layout – its been organized into a
column and sections so its easier for the
reader to navigate and read. The
column has been split into two different
sections; ‘on the cover’ and ‘features’
this helps the audience to find the
advertised articles .
Website – a the top of the page a
website has been added
‘www.glamour.com’ this is advertising
and linking the audience straight to a
social media site as it gets them more
interested.
Fonts – thr types of fonts used are very limited as
this can clarify the focus of the magaine. It doesn’t
look to confusing and the reader knows directly
where to look when heading to look through the
magazine.
