2. Question 7: Looking back at your
preliminary task, what do you feel you
have learnt in the progression from it to
full product?
3. Masthead
The two mastheads have both been
used in my work, preliminary task,
and final piece. The font on the
preliminary task is italic and plain
black with a back drop shadow. The
font is balanced and particularly
boring, and unprofessional. The
masthead for my final task is a
improvement compared to the
preliminary task. The colours are
more attractive, which fits the target
audience, also is not too boring, which
doesn’t attract readers. The font is
also improved, as it not a typical font
style used from Microsoft Publisher,
as I briefly searched the internet for
the exciting font style. The font for my
final work is large and stands out,
whereas the preliminary task
masthead does not. The fact that the
final work is coloured and bold makes
the magazine more interesting and
exciting to read. The JUICE takes up
most of the top half of my magazine,
which also appeals the target
audience, and makes the magazine
more approachable. It is also
presented at an angle an more
exciting yet professional finish.
Overall, my final work is a large
improvement to my preliminary task,
as it is more effective, and preferred.
4. Front Cover Image
The front cover image, has
massively changed. In my
preliminary task I used a image of
a member in the class, writing
down work, this tells the reader
that the Lodge Park issue will be
about the school, and the
students. Whereas, in my final
work piece, the model I used is
looking directly into the camera.
This draws more attention to the
target audience as the model is
giving eye contact, which will
advise the audience to buy the
magazine. Both images are
aligned on the side of the
magazine, giving more room on
either side to advise the readers
even more, by adding additional
information that is included on
the inside of the magazine. In my
preliminary task, the student is
formally dressed, with a shirt and
tie, whereas, in my final work, the
‘pop sensation’ is wearing a
casual black top, with netted
sleeves. this brings across the
audience type for each
magazine.
5. Front Cover Font
On my prelimianry task, the font used
on my front cover is boring and plain,
therefore, I knew I needed to change
the way I presented the information,
and the title font. I know it needed to
be big and bold to catch the readers
attention. By looking at the different
front covers you can see how I made
my final task more appealing and
attractive. I used big writing font for
the word ‘JUICE’ as it is the name of
the magazine, therefore, it is
important, it needs to advise the
audience to buy our magazine
weekly, or monthly. The preliminary
tasks has plain black text, which is
normally used in essays, which looks
boring, the text was found on the
programme I edited it on which was
Microsoft Publishers, whereas, on my
final work, I done research on
fontspace.com, to find a exciting font
type. The colours used on my final
task are girly and make the magazine
more appealing to read, whereas on
the preliminary task it looks less
effective and boring.
6. Contents Page Layout
The layout from each of the tasks are
different. On my preliminary task I used
more images, that had a black picture
border, whereas in my final task, I used 3
images, all different camera angles, and
sizes. The preliminary task layout is fairly
boring and amateurish. The pictures are
aligned in columns and rows. Even the
page numbers below the images have a
black border to make the page
professional, due to the audience type.
Whereas the page numbers from my final
task have headings, depending on what the
page information consists of. The headings
on my final task, are fairly similar, as they
all begin with ‘we… with a heart’ to
presented the word ‘love’. By doing this it
makes it easier for the audience type to
cooperate with what's inside the mag On
both the tasks there are house styles, the
colours are the same that has been used
on the home page, and the font style and
size is similar. In the contents page of my
final task, I included a picture of the home
page and annotated the information to what
pages they are on. Both of my contents
page layout are different as they have
different audience types and ages. The
school issue needs to be professional and
friendly as students and parents will be
reading them, whereas my final task needs
to be girly and welcoming, for the
7. Contents Page Text
The text type on both pieces of my
work, as it needs to be easy to
read, and understand. I have
avoided my final work becoming
boring, by making the title font
different, and interesting. On my
preliminary task I did not use a title
therefore, it looks plain, boring, and
amateurish. The headings on my
final task have been changed into
exciting text, to stand out more and
draw attention to the audience and
readers. This makes the magazine
seem more friendly, and easy to
understand, as you know what is
inside the magazine, whereas with
the preliminary task, you have to
suspect that the next page is the
contents page. The text on the
contents page, on my final task, is
pink as it sticks with the same
house colours, whereas, the
preliminary task, is just plain black,
yet it stills goes with the house
colour, because of the black
borders around the images.
