This document outlines a lesson plan for teaching students about the differences between the Summer and Winter Olympic Games. There are 20 students in the 4th grade class, with a variety of ethnic and gender demographics. The lesson objectives are for students to describe the differences between the two Olympic Games and their associated sports with 90% accuracy. A variety of methods and media will be used, including videos on YouTube, virtual exploration of an Olympic village on Secondlife, and social media research on Pinterest, Twitter and Facebook. Students will work in groups to invent a new Olympic game, and evaluate each other's creations. The teacher will evaluate student comprehension through class discussion, ensuring active participation in group projects, and engaging students in conversation while observing

Assure Day 5
I. Analyze the Learners: There are twenty students in my fourth grade class. In this class
there are seven African Americans, and Three Chinese Americans. The number of
girls I have in class is eight and I have twelve boys. As well they are between the ages
of eight and ten. These students are not very good test takers, so I will need to
incorporate a wide variety of teaching methods to accommodate their learning
individual learning styles.
II. State Objectives: My students will be able to describe the difference between the
Summer and Winter Olympic Games as well as the different sports associated with
the games through the use of Pinterest, YouTube, Secondlife, Facebook, and Twitter
with 90% accuracy by the end of the day.
III. Selecting Methods, Material, and Media: With the different learning styles of my
students I will need to use these methods, media, and materials in my lesson:
• Smart Board: The Smart Board will be utilized to show YouTube, and Pinterest
activities.
• Pinterest: The students will look and explore into the two boards I pinned. One for the
Summer Olympics, and the other for Winter Olympics.
• YouTube: The students will watch a teaching video that I created in order to help them
gain basic knowledge of both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.
• Secondlife: Will be used to explore an Olympic Village that will be created.
• Twitter: Will again turn to the page in which I requested them to follow in order to find
any information that has been tweeted about either Games.
2. • Facebook: Will be used for students to share their thoughts, ideas, and feelings, on
the lessons covered for the whole week.
IV. Utilizing Media and Materials: I will check to make sure all electronics are running
properly before starting the lesson (Smart Board, computers in the classroom and
lab). I will then make sure all media contents are age appropriate and are kid friendly
ranging from the blogs to twitter. The desks in the classroom will remain in the group
format (5 groups of 4 students). I will make sure the Olympic Village that has been
created on Secondlife is appropriate and free of inappropriate materials.
V. Require Learner Participation: To start the lesson I will show them the YouTube
video I created to help them gain knowledge on the difference of the two games. The
assessment of this lesson will take place as the groups will make an Olympic Game
by the end of the day and they will be judged by creativity, originality, and if it goes
with the Olympic Theme. These will be asked on a scale of 1 to 5, and again the
other groups will be doing the assessments of all the groups. I will then show them
the Pinterest Boards I created, and allow them to navigate the SmartBoard in order
to explore the boards more thoroughly. We then will go the computer lab where we
will begin to explore Secondlife. Before we start, I will mention that some things on
here can not be monitored so do not act shocked or surprised if a problem shall
arise. In the Secondlife, we will explore an Olympic Village, looking at what it entails,
and all the sporting venues it must have for the games to be held. We will then again
go back and explore Twitter for new and update tweets about the Olympics. The
students will be asked to write a reflection of the Facebook wall, this time stating
what they liked and what they did not like about this week, and what they would
change. This will allow me to engage their interest as well as adapting my lessons to
the students wants and needs based on their learning styles.
VI. Evaluate and Revise: To help adapt to the students learning style and to address
learner comprehension I will:
3. • Engage Class Discussion
• Require that all students actively participate in the group projects of inventing an
Olympic Game.
• Walk around the classroom asking and engaging students in conversation about the
different sports and what they find interesting.
