Assure Day 3
I. Analyze the Learners: There are twenty students in my fourth grade class. In this class
there are seven African Americans, and Three Chinese Americans. The number of
girls I have in class is eight and I have twelve boys. As well they are between the ages
of eight and ten. These students are not very good test takers, so I will need to
incorporate a wide variety of teaching methods to accommodate their learning
individual learning styles.
II. My students will describe and differentiate between the Modern vs Ancient
Olympics by utilizing PowerPoint, Blogs, and QR’s & Voki’s by the end of the day with
90%.
III. Selecting Methods, Material, and Media: With the different learning styles of my
students I will need to use these methods, media, and materials in my lesson:
• PowerPoint: Students will create a PowerPoint at the end of the lesson to show their
comprehension.
• Blogs: To help understand some of the differences between the games, and they can
also gather another cultures viewpoints on the games as well.
• QR’s & Voki: Students will use my QR code that I created to help send them to the
Official Olympic Website which has all the information that the students need on the
Olympics.
IV. Utilizing Media and Materials: Before class starts I will make sure all the computer
labs computers are properly working. We will use this lab unless we are working in
2. groups in the classroom for all assignments. I will make sure that the blog they will
look at is kid friendly and age appropriate. I will also make sure my QR code is
working properly and at least I have a QR reader on my smartphone for the kids who
may not have a smart phone.
V. Require Learner Participation: I will start the day out by briefly describing the Modern
and Ancient Olympic games, but not giving away too much detail as I want the
students to do most of the exploring and researching. They will then make the
voyage to the computer lab again where I will let them visit three blogs,
http://olympictalk.nbcsports.com , http://olympics.wikia.com/wiki/Olympic_Games , &
http://period8dolzall.tripod.com/olympics.html . While they are doing this, It is a great
time for me to assess the students knowledge as they are making their way through
the blogs and information they are reading. Asking questions like “why did the
modern games start back up?” , “what is one sport that they had in the Ancient
games, that they do not have in the Modern day?” are good questions to gauge if the
students are actively engaged in the material. The QR code that they are going to
scan and explore is one that I created and takes them to Olympic.org which is the
official website of the Olympics where all kinds of historical information is found as
well as an array of resources to use for this unit. At the end of the day the students
will then be asked to go back to the classroom and break down into their groups to
start the PowerPoint projects. This project will consist of the students preparing five
slides illustrating their knowledge of the Modern vs. Ancient Olympic Games. The
Assessment for this will be done through Peer interaction, where the other groups
will grade each group based on if they have five slides, if the material presented is
3. correct, is the material neatly presented, & do they use other resources. For take
home, I will again ask the students to post on the Facebook thing, this time it can be
on anything we have covered in the first three days.
VI. Evaluate and Revise: To help adapt to the students learning styles and to assess
learner comprehension I Will:
• Engage class discussion
• Require students to actively participate in the group work.
• Ask questions while walking around the students.
• Making sure their PowerPoints have 5 slides
• Make sure students are actively assessing other groups’ work while they are
presenting.
