Assure Day 2
I. Analyze the Learners: There are twenty students in my fourth grade class. In this class
there are seven African Americans, and Three Chinese Americans. The number of
girls I have in class is eight and I have twelve boys. As well they are between the ages
of eight and ten. These students are not very good test takers, so I will need to
incorporate a wide variety of teaching methods to accommodate their learning
individual learning styles.
II. State Objectives: My students will describe and explain the Olympic Torch,
Flame, and Relay and their value to the Olympics by the use of Digital Imaging,
Twitter, and creating a WebQuest by the end of the day with 90% accuracy.
III. Selecting Methods, Material, and Media: With different learning styles of my
students I will need to use these methods, media, and materials in my lesson:
• Digital Imaging: The class with use photoshop in the computer lab to create a
poster that they will hang in the class for presentation.
• Twitter: Students will be asked to follow @IOCMEDIA which is an official olympic
twitter page that tweets important information about the Olympics that include
social issues to candidates for the next Olympics.
• WebQuest: Students will follow my WebQuest that I created for them about
Olympic Symbols.
IV. Utilizing Media and Materials: I will check and make sure all computers in the
computer lab are working correctly before students arrive. I will make sure all the
students have Photoshop on their computers as well before starting. I will make sure
that the twitter account they are about to follow is safe and kid friendly and in no way
2. can lead to inappropriate material. I will also make sure my WebQuest is functioning
correctly and that those websites are appropriate and kid friendly.
V. Require Learner Participation: I will start out class by quickly doing a re-cap of the
previous lesson, adding on that today we will still be studying important symbols but
this time we will be dealing straight with the Torch, Flame, and the Olympic Relay.
We will proceed to the computer lab where we will begin to explore these symbols
and their meaning. The students will be sent a link by me so they can access the
WebQuest that I have created for the Olympic Symbols section. They will proceed to
complete the WebQuest. As they are doing this I will go around the room and do a
quick verbal assessment of what the kids are learning. I will ask such questions
“When was the first olympic torch relay?” , “When was the Olympic Flame
introduced?” , “ What is the significance of the Olympic Relay to the host country?”
They will then begin to open up Photoshop where I will explain to them that they will
create a poster by combining multiple images. This image, I will explain must contain
all three symbols we have covered for today. Lastly, as a way to follow Olympic
news and find out interesting tidbits about the Olympics I will then ask if they have a
twitter to follow @IOCMEDIA , if the students do not have a twitter I will say if they
would like they can come check that account on my twitter daily before classes start.
The students also need to comment on the Facebook page so I can gain student
feedback.
VI. Evaluate and Revise: To assess learner comprehension I will
• Engage student discussion
• Make sure they understand how to work in Photoshop
• Make sure they are actively participating in the WebQuest by asking certain
questions gauging by where I see them during the WebQuest assignment.
• Assessment of the WebQuest using Rubric inside WebQuest
3. • To make sure that all their poster include the three symbols being studied.
