Client Project Evaluation
By yours truly
The Choices
• I chose 2 small businesses OG Games and Mission CTRL Studios. The reason
why I chose these 2 is because they are both small businesses and they
would appreciate free work and this would give me a higher chance of
working for them. I knew OG Games because I once made a banner for
them in class some time ago. My banner was voted the best by their
customers so I figured that I should work for them again because it seems
my style fits there audience. Mission CTRL Studios is my friend’s brother's
indie company where he and one of his friends are working on a game. I
thought since he knows me and there's only 2 people working on the game
he would be fine with me helping them.
• I chose OG Games because they sent me back my brief while my friend’s
brother did not. (He might have been too busy or maybe it was too early in
production to work on advertisements for the game.)
The Brief
• OG Games didn't give me any images or fonts to use. They also didn’t have
an idea for the style or image, they just gave me the content and two
special requirements. The content they wanted was a leaflet (A5) that
explains their various gaming nights, opening times etc and a general guide
to what we sell. They told me that all the details for this is on the events
section on their Facebook page and website. Their special requirements
were using purple as their standard colour for text and their logo, Oggie
the Ogre, is a must. This allowed me to have complete creative control over
the design of the leaflet as long as I include what they want.

The Requirements
• The client wanted a A5 double
sided leaflet that explains their
various gaming nights, opening
times etc and a general guide to
what they sell. I had to also use
purple text and their logo.
• I took this information on board
and followed the brief into my
production of the leaflet.
The Constraints
• I wasn’t sure if I should use official images from
the games on the leaflet because of copyright but I
have seen other businesses use these images for
advertisements, so I asked OG Games if I could use
any official images and they said “yes you may”.
OG Games and The Travelling Man (OG
competitor) both use official images to advertise
their gaming nights on their social media pages.
• One thing that I wanted to do is make an image to
use for the leaflet. My idea needed a fantasy
background and a sci-fi background. I couldn't find
any good free space images so instead I made my
own. I found a tutorial on how to make a space sci-
fi background including how to make a planet. It
used free stock images for the background. Since I
made the planet image it is copyright free and
therefore there are no constraints. (See next slide)

The Constraints
• I made sure that I followed ASA non-broadcasting guidelines like not
having any misleading advertising, any bad language or any over the
top violence.
• Financially speaking, OG Games wanted a A5 double sided leaflet
probably because they are cheaper to make then a regular folded
leaflet. They also didn’t have to pay me since I am working for them
for free. (sadly)
• Thankfully I didn’t have to spend any money for the leaflet because I
used the facilities at college, so this wasn’t a constraint.
Managing the Project
• Before I chose OG Games I had told them that I would work on
their leaflet on the 23rd of April to the 1st of June and they were
fine with that.
• During the production I thought that making the leaflet would
take awhile but it actually took around a week and a bit to
make. I think I spent more time on the idea generation then the
production. One of the reasons I think it was so quick was that I
might have overestimated how long it would take to make. I
thought that making the space background and laying out all
the information would have taken me all of the production time
I had left but actually the space background took me a day and
a half to make. Also, thanks for my idea generation, I already
knew what layout I wanted. I even had enough time to make
2nd drafts (although they were very similar to the 1st). The
major difference between my first and second draft is that I
made a purple texture background to the back page because
the opening times bit looked very blank without anything
around it. I also added the address and phone number of OG
Games to the front page because other leaflets I saw do that.
• Also, if I ever needed to know anything during production I
could always contact them. I could also for my tutors opinion to
help make improvements. If I do something like this in the
future where I wont be in college, I could ask my friends in the
media business for their opinion.
2nd drafts
The Communication
• I have communicated with the client several times to give me more information to what
they want. When I got the brief, they said that they wanted a A5 leaflet however a leaflet
has lots of versions so I had to ask them if they could specify what type of leaflet they
wanted. I also asked them if it is the same group of people that go to the events or if
different events attract different people and also what is their main competition. They
replied saying that the events normally attracts a fairly regular crowd and that the
Travelling Man is their main competitor. Finally, I sent them my first draft and asked them
if anything needed changing. They replied saying that the opening time are out of date
and told me what to change them into. I also asked if they do events on Sundays because
I saw a event that was on Sunday on their Facebook page and they said to remove it
because they hardly open on Sundays.
• One thing that was a bit weird was that I wanted to know what their average audience is.
Instead of giving me a straight up answer they told me to make survey and find out. This
could mean that 1. They aren't sure what their average audience is or 2. Since they know
I'm a media student they thought it would be more helpful to me to find out for myself.

What I Learnt
• I have learnt that some store businesses are allowed to use official
images of the products they sell without worrying about copyright.
• Keep in regular contact with the client to ensure that they are
satisfied with my work and if they need to make any changes.
• I have a also learnt that there are different types of leaflets because
originally I thought that the 3 page one was the only type. I have also
learnt that the double sided leaflet is a lot more cheaper to make
then the other types. This also made me realize that smaller
businesses will have more financial constraints which will affect the
way I make them products. Hypothetically, if I insisted on making a 3
page leaflet and they wanted a double page leaflet they would not
want me to work for them since it would be to expensive for them.
What I Learnt

What I Learnt
• Future work template:
• Step 1: Send emails asking the potential clients if they want you to work on a certain thing to
more then 2 companies for a better chance of getting a client. The work could be advertising,
photography, web design etc.
• Step 2: If you find a client, either tell them what you want to make for them or ask them what
they want making. (Be careful when asking them this as some people will try to make you do
more then you’re capable of)
• Step 3: Once you and the client have agreed on the product, it’s time to start brainstorming!!!
Think of multiple ideas and see which one the client like the best. Also, let them make
amendments to your ideas if need be. If you have any questions, make sure you ask them
because making a mistake might get your client into trouble.
• Step 4: Start production. Stick with the plan that you and the client made.
• Step 5: Show your client your first draft and see what they think. If they love it then
CONGRATULATIONS! If they like it but there are things that they want/need changing then simply
do it. If they don’t like it then it seems you got a client from hell. If you do have a hell client then
remind them that you stuck with the plan that you two made.

Hypothetically, if I insisted on making a 3 page leaflet and they wanted a double page leaflet they would not want me to work for them since it would be to expensive for them.

What I Learnt • Future work template: • Step 1: Send emails asking the potential clients if they want you to work on a certain thing to more then 2 companies for a better chance of getting a client. The work could be advertising, photography, web design etc. • Step 2: If you find a client, either tell them what you want to make for them or ask them what they want making. (Be careful when asking them this as some people will try to make you do more then you’re capable of) • Step 3: Once you and the client have agreed on the product, it’s time to start brainstorming!!! Think of multiple ideas and see which one the client like the best. Also, let them make amendments to your ideas if need be. If you have any questions, make sure you ask them because making a mistake might get your client into trouble. • Step 4: Start production. Stick with the plan that you and the client made. • Step 5: Show your client your first draft and see what they think. If they love it then CONGRATULATIONS! If they like it but there are things that they want/need changing then simply do it. If they don’t like it then it seems you got a client from hell. If you do have a hell client then remind them that you stuck with the plan that you two made.
