Mind Maps/Brainstorms
Star by using the first few slides to create mind
maps and or brainstorms for ideas related to
your project. Get as many possibilities as you
can.
Don’t worry about practicality, suitability or
potential at this stage. You will assess the ideas
later.
Mind Maps/Brainstorms
I have to use the logo at the bottom and the badge of the company I am working with. I plan on
having some images of the products that the machine can work on which would make it easier
for people to know exactly what the machine does. Also this allows people to have more of an
understanding on how the machine works and what it is capable of doing. I plan on having a big
title to make it stand out and capture the attention of the viewers. Using multiple colours for the
background and the text colour. I will try out multiple different colours together and see which
one works the best in my opinion. I plan on making it more interesting than the one they have
know as it is bland and is not eye catching. I plan on having a image of the machine on the
poster, it will either be in use or will be on a table or in the case this will depend on if the people
using the machine in the image will give me the permission or is it fits in with the rest of the
poster. Also I will have a question to introduce the poster as it will get people involved with the
poster and make people more intrigued as they are being able to be apart of something. I plan
for there to be objects on the poster in the sense of a list with tick boxes which you can then tick
depending on which one the product is or similar to. I plan to have the links to the company so if
there are any problems than you can get in touch with the company to find out more
information. I will have an image on the poster of what it looks like when put on the product,
showing what the lettering looks like and a little description above the image saying what it is.
Assessing ideas
Now you have generated lots of potential ideas, it is
time to rationalise those against the requirements of
the brief from your client.
Use the next few slides to consolidate your ideas and
then assess them against the requirements and
constraints of the project.
Finally, select an idea to take forward for further
development.
Poster
The poster will be portrait
The size will be A3
It will have the colours of the company as the background. Which are blue, red and yellow.
The text will be in black.
Images of the machine in action on the right and a image of the machine in a case on the
left.
The logo will be in the top right of the poster.
The title will be in a clear font and will be bold so it stands out.
There will be logo from companies that work with my company to put at the across the
bottom.
Under the title there will be a question asking if you know what the machine is.
There will be a brief description of the machine and how it is used and the reason it would
be used.
The poster will be eye catching as it will have images and bright colours to grab the
attention and then the informative text will keep them reading and interested in the poster.
The client did not give anything specific to put in specific places accept the logo at the
bottom and there logo in the top right. Once I have made this I will get feedback from my
client to see what can be improved or if there are curtain things they want replaced due to
they type of font or image I have used. Starting with something that is basic means I can
see what the client is interested in and then work around that as the brief was not very
informative this would be away to get more information to make it better if this is needed.
Idea One
Evaluation of idea
• What do you like about the idea?
It is very informative with examples making it easier for you to understand what the
machine is about. I like the multiple images showing of every aspect of what the machine
can do and what it looks like. I like the multiple colours which will help the poster stand
compared to the previous one. I like the interactivity that will be on the poster getting
people involved with it.
• Does it match what the client wants?
The client was vary brief with what they wanted but they wanted something eye catching
which I believe with the multiple colours and images grabs he attention of the viewer which
is what they wanted.
• Are you capable of delivering this?
I believe that I am able to make it eye catching using different fonts and colours that makes
it stand out and make the poster interesting by having informative information they gives
you an idea of what the product can do.
• Can you do this on time?
I believe that I will be able to make this in the time given the only problem would be if the
client continuously keeps giving it back asking for improvements as I will only two weeks
but as long as I can make it perfect and something that they like this will not be a problem.
• Do you have the resources available to do this?
I have the resources available to me between my own home or the resources at the college
I will have everything I will need to make the poster that is required.
Idea 2
Poster
This idea will also be portrait
A3 will be the size
The colour scheme will be black and white, it will use black text on the white background.
Having an image of what happens to the product when the machine has done what it does. Also
before that I could have an image of the machine doing its job and that I will have the second
image which will show what it does, it will be like the process that the company go through.
The company logo will be in the top right
The title will be in the same place as previously
At the bottom of the poster there will be some logo of companies that work with my company.
There will be a image of the lettering which is what it will look like when put on something
instead of having the image of the text on something it will just the letters.
It will also have links to the company and its own hash-tag on it. Which is given by the company.
This poster will have more on it than the pervious one and will show a step by step process in
images of what will be happening and also what the machine can do and what it looks like. This
will have some of what the clients wants like the lettering image which is something they liked as
well with the images can make it eye catching but using simple colours for the text could make
people not as interested as the previous one. I believe that this idea shows more of what the
machine is capable of and visually looks more appealing. I think this poster will give people a very
good understanding of what it does without having to read up on it.
Evaluation of idea
• What do you like about the idea?
I like that it is more visually pleasing compared to the previous one and is more about the
images than the text. I also liked the images showing the process as it saves people reading
about it and shows it more of an interesting way as people prefer to see images of something
working than read about it. I like the fact it has its own hash-tag which makes it stand out
compered to other posters.
• Does it match what the client wants?
As the client only wanted something that is eye catching I believe it does with the images
including something that the client believed looked very good and interesting. I also have put
my own ideas like the process of how it works in to as I believe it helps capture the attention of
the viewer.
• Are you capable of delivering this?
I am capable of doing this as there are not to man things that are different from the first idea
and most of the resources I need are available on a computer so there should not be any
problems delivering it.
• Can you do this on time?
I will be able to do this in time as the images I can get of the internet and the text is only about
the machine which I have a good understanding on how it works and what it is.
• Do you have the resources available to do this?
Between my home and the college I will have all the resources available to me. I could also get
a camera out and take images myself of the process instead of using the internet, in which case
I would need a camera but can get one from college.
Idea 3
Poster
The size will be A3
This will be portrait
The colour scheme will be the colour of the machine which is red and black.
The colour of the text will be white as some of the background will be black.
There will be a large image of the machine in the middle of the poster and there will be
text going around the image.
The title will be big and bold and will be in a easy to read font.
The logo will be In the top right
There will be logo at the bottom from other companies that work with my company.
It will have the links and also its own hash-tag.
This is a more simple idea of poster compared to the others were there is just text and an
image of what the machine looks like. The text will explain the machine and what it does,
who it works, why the machine will be used and in what situation. This will not be exactly
what the client has looked for but will be a simple idea, it will have a unique style which
none of the other posters have as the text will go around the image whereas the other
have text above the image.
Evaluation of idea
• What do you like about the idea?
I like how simple the idea is, this idea does not have much of my own work in as it is just
taking the simple stuff from the original poster and making it more of an up to date version.
• Does it match what the client wants?
It has a different style which makes it more eye catching which is what the client wants of the
poster. Having something that the other ideas does not have makes it stand out more even if
it is a simple poster.
• Are you capable of delivering this?
I am capable of making this as it is simple to make and it is only about positioning things and
getting the information and the image which will be easy to do .
• Can you do this on time?
I will be able to complete this on time as a lot of the stuff I can take from one of the previous
idea which makes it easy to put together. This poster will not go through much development
as my other ones.
• Do you have the resources available to do this?
I have the resources available to me as the image will be on the internet or I have one already
taken on my phone which I could e-mail myself to get it on the poster. The text is a description
which I already have the understanding of the machine. All the fonts are also on the
computer/internet.
Idea 4
Poster
It will be portrait
It will be A3
The title will be big and bold to stand out also will be underlined. The colour of the tile will be different to the rest of
the text as well as the font but will still be easy to understand and read.
The background colour will be light blue to make the poster stand out and catch people attention as soon as they see
the poster.
There will be a question which will be underlined, bold and big like the tile but will be smaller than the title but will
be in the same font and colour.
The logo of the company will be in the top right and the title will sit under the logo.
There will be a bit of a description of the machine with a image. The text will go around the image to make it more
eye catching and interesting. The text will be in a different font to the title.
There will be some images of the process with a brief description of what is going on under the images and at the
end there will be an image of what the lettering looks like that the machine puts onto your item.
There will be some images o items that the machine can work on to show the capability of the machine.
There will be some logo at the bottom of other companies that work with my company
There will be some links as well as there own hash-tag for the machine.
This poster will have everything that the client has asked for as it will have images they like as well as having an eye
catching feel. It will keep viewers interested with the layout of the images and text and it will tell you everything you
need to know. It will be like a mash up of all the ideas in one poster. This has more of an advanced style compared to
the other ideas, it will have a lot of visual aspects which is more eye catching than text and the images will tell the
story the text will be there for people who don’t understand the machine.
Evaluation of idea
• What do you like about the idea?
I like that it has a bit of everything, as it has some of my own style from previous ideas and it
has what the client would like. It seems more interesting than the one they have know and has
more information and images showing what it is capable of then the original one. Also the own
hash-tag makes it stand out. The multiple colours and fonts make it eye catching and not
boring from seeing the same font like the original one.
• Does it match what the client wants?
It does match what the client wants as it has an eye catching feel and has images that the
client thought were very good and interesting. I also has some of my own style due to not
having much to go of from the client.
• Are you capable of delivering this?
I am able to deliver this as it is mostly images and text which the images and different fonts I
can get of the internet, the text is just about the machine which I know.
• Can you do this on time?
It will take more time than the other ideas but I will have enough time as lots of the items I
need are on a computer so I will be able to complete it in the time given.
• Do you have the resources available to do this?
Between my home and the resources at the college I will have everything I need even if I
choose to take images I can get a camera from the college.
Idea Evaluation
Which of your ideas do you want to develop further? Explain why you think that is the right
idea to take forward.
The idea that I am going forward with is the final idea as this idea just has everything that I
believe make the poster seem eye catching. This idea has parts of what I believe makes the
poster look good and the same with the client. Another reason I choose this idea is it seems
like it will take longer and there are more things to do which I feel will fill the page and make
it more interesting and as it has everything that the other have in just one it may save me
time as if the client says they want something in the poster that for example is not in the first
idea it is basically like I am making the final idea. Another thing I like about this idea is the
multiple colours of the text and background as it uses bright colours to make it stand out and
eye catching which is exactly what the client want. In my opinion it has more to offer than
the original poster as it has more on it and shows more of the machine and how it works.
Development
Use the next slides to document your idea development.
This should include mood boards and other visual examples of work. It
could include basic mock ups of your vision for the project using the
work of others.
If you are taking doing something outside of your ordinary skill set or
way of working, you could include test work or practice work here too.
There is room to develop a second idea here as well. This could give
you a greater variety of options to give to your client.
You will then assess your developed idea against the constraints of the
project before producing a final treatment.
Developed Idea 1
Font – The type of font I will be
using for the title and the question
will be impact. The reason for this is
it is a bold font that stands out
compared to other fonts. The font
size for the title will be 72 and the
question will be 60.
The font for the regular text will be
Calibri body and the size will be 20.
This image shows how I will follow this
colour throughout the poster, these colours
will be the scheme and the design style.
The one I will be using the most will be the
light blue it shows over options that I could
use and also other colours that mix well
with the colour I have chosen.
Assessment of final ideas
Suitable for audience?
The audience could be anyone as the the machine works on most items people bring in
so there is not a specific audience. But when people see the poster it will grab there
attention with the bright colours and bold title. The images showing what the machine
can do will keep the audience interested and will teach them what it does and if it is
worth it.
Suitability for client?
The poster is suitable for the client as it has what they want. It is eye catching and has
images that they like on the poster. The only thing that I mainly added is the structure of
how everything is going to be layout. I was given mostly freedom so anything that is on
the poster the client does not mind.
Appeal of the work:
The first idea has some of what I want and then some of what the client would like. The
idea is more visually pleasing which is good because this makes it more eye catching
which is what the client wants. The idea is simple to make using images from the
internet and some text which is about the machine which is something that I already
know about. It is more appealing to the audience compared to the original one.
• Timescales for production:
I have three weeks to create what the client wants. I will start by making
the background and the text first as this will be the hardest part of the
poster. Then I will move onto getting the images, the plan will be to go
out with some police officers and take some images to see how it used
in person. Once I have the images I will then put the images on the
poster and move the text to fit the poster. Finally I will decide where
everything is going to be placed on the poster and the order of which I
want the content to be.
• Costs:
My final idea will not cost anything as everything I need I will have
available to me for free. The cost I will have will be getting into college to
get the resources I need to make my poster but I will not need any
money for any of the resources. Also seen as I am taking my own
photos and I have been given permission to use curtain logo on the
poster.
• Personnel:
I will not need any help making the poster but in some of the images I take
there ma be people in them as they will be using the machine, but other than
that there will be no other personnel working on my poster.
Assessment of final ideas
Legal and ethical issues:
I will need to make sure that there are no legal or ethical issues
in my poster. This will include the images and fonts that I will
use. If this work is put onto the internet I would have to make
sure that nothing on the poster has anything that I am not
allowed as this would put me into legal issues. I will make sure
that anything I take from the internet that I am allowed before I
give it to the client so there will be no legal problems.
Research
Competition/Market research:
Who is in competition with your client?
There are not really anybody in competition with my client as they are the police but there are other companies that
are trying to do similar things as the dot peen from the police. They may be like where they are trying to protect
people property in a other way to the dot peen for example like a neighbourhood watch. This Is where people try to
create a stronger community in there area and look after people in their community. There are a few different
companies that use the machine and one that is Woking with the police called Telesis. There are companies that do a
similar thing that the dot peen machine does where they will look after your house by using cameras. Another person
that willing to help are pcso who are called the eyes and ears of the police. These are people who will walk around the
streets protecting people and getting intelligence which then they will pass onto the police how will then decide if
they want to get involved. There are other police forces how use the dot peen machine but they also do not charge as
this benefits the police.
What is their design/photography/marketing/promotional/advertising work like?
What wider market is your client part of? Undertake research in to that market. This could be in the form of sales
figures, audience figures, turnover, job roles, customer base, market share, rules, regulations and codes of practice.
As my client is the police they are not part of a wider market but the company thy work with Telesis are part of laser
marker market. This market does not have many companies involved in this. Telesis are the biggest as they are a world
wide company and also work with the police.
The design of this poster is split the page in half, as they have
images in the top and the text underneath. They use the same
font throughout the poster, just changing the size and
changing the title to bold. They use question to get the viewer
involved. They start with a statement to get people drawn in
and use different colour for the main parts of the text to make
them stand out. They have used the same image except
changing what the person is calling for which goes well with
the statement. They use the
colours Of the ambulance. They
have put the logo in the bottom
left of the poster and have put
the other logo on the bottom
right under all the text. This
poster was put onto there
website to advertise that
ambulances are serious and you
are to only call when needed.
There is a very serious them to it
and that it is not a joke even
though they use a quote that is
funny. Also the NHS will
promote there poster on there
website as the work closely with
the hospital. They are trying to
get the point across in a jokingly
but serious manner. The poster is
trying to get people to not call
the ambulance unless there is a
serious problem otherwise they
are wasting there time.
This poster is different to the previous one as
this is portrait and not landscape. It still uses
the fire station colours, They have gone for big
lettering and put the important information at
the top and the lower you get in the poster
than the text because smaller. The text is in
the same font and is bold. It uses a big image
that covers most of the poster and the image
relates to the purpose of the poster. It also
some images of what happens in the open
day that they are putting on. They are
promoting the fire brigade to a younger
audience as shown in the image. Thy are
allowing people to get a feeling of what it is
like to be a fireman. The colour scheme for
the text goes throughout the poster going
from yellow and red. They have the badge on
the bottom right of the poster. They have
used a photograph from a previous open day.
They are advertising themselves and also a
phone which is like a mascot. The page is
layed out in three different sections, the title,
the image, the extra information.
Audience/Customer research:
Who is the audience or customer that your client is trying to reach? Perhaps they have already told you. Perhaps you
should ask. You could also do further research in to the type of audience or customer you are hoping to appeal to.
For my poster it is meant to be aimed at young adults and teenagers that are either male or female and is meant to be
something they would be interested in. But the product itself could be aimed at anyone. My client is trying to get more
young people to get there things dot peened so hey can keep them protected and if they are to go missing then the
police can find them. But personally I am trying to get anyone who is worried about the protection of there things to
get there items dot peened. I am trying to get people how are on the edge of doing it to definitely do it and also
people how don’t want to have it happen than try and convince them to get it done. Also try to aim at people how no
nothing about the dot peen and it capabilities, so they know about it in the future. Also it could be aimed at people
who are having problems with losing there valuables, as this poster can lead you into the right direction into finding a
solution. As it is free and done by the police anybody can afford to have it done, all people have to do is call up and
find out about it and get in touch with the police.
Content research:
This should take the form of secondary research (exiting products from your client and the competition and wider market)
and also some primary research (asking potential audience, your client and your market,) to help you formalise the content of
your project.
The company I am working with have not made any existing products but the company they work with called Telesis have
some existing products. They have different dot peen machines and very similar products that do a similar job. They have
laser markers which are used to substrate thing likes wood, glass and fabrics. They have different types of laser markers and
each one can mark different items. They have different series of laser markers and the different series mark different items
for example the f series marks metals or plastics and then the U series marks plastics and silicon materials. The competition
that Telesis have are from SIC marketing and technomark. All three companies use the dot peen as well as laser of scribing
devices that you can use on your items. Seen as the police are with Telesis this could mean that the police are in competition
with the other companies. The way SIC marking layout there poster Is having an image in the centre of the poster, but there is
not much information so people how don’t know what it does do not have much to go on from this poster. They have used
the same colours throughout the poster. They are focused on the machine in the poster and not much more, they also show
different ranges the dot peen can reach. The technomark poster has an image of the dot peen and talks about the parts of
the machine and also sticks to a similar colour scheme all the way through. This uses fancier fonts compared to the SIC
marketing poster. But there is not much information on what it does like the previous one. On my poster I am going to add
more information and more images than these two. I plan on having images of what it can work on and describe what it is
and what it can do which will give people more information about what it is then these two. These existing posters suggest
that my client is wanting something simple and subtle design. My poster will be not like either of these posters but will use a
similar colour scheme throughout.
Treatment:
The treatment evokes how an audience will experience what you are making.
Write in the active-voice in present tense. Tell the reader what they will see.
Describe the content of your project.
Write vibrantly, so the reader gets excited about your work. They should be able to
visualise the finished pieces. You could also supplement this with some mood boards or
mock ups.
Be specific—don’t use words like may, might or possibly.
Treatment
I will be creating a poster to replace the one they have know. My client is hoping to have a
poster that is eye catching and something that a younger audience would see and be
interested in bringing in there property so that the machine can tag it and then if it does get
stolen the police can find it easier. This will be presented next to the machine when the
machine is in use and also will be show online for people to see. People all over the UK will be
able to see it and then thy will be able to learn more about what it does and how it can help.
The start of the poster will introduce people to what it does and how it works with images
showing this as well as text. This will give people more of an understanding, it will also by eye
catching because of the images which will be interesting. Then there will be some items that
the machine can work on showing you what it can do and what it cant do. For example thee
will images on computers, game consoles and bikes this will show what can be tagged and also
will sate the items that can not be marked by the dot peen. There is going to be a image of
what it will look like when it is on your product so you can see what it will look like and realize
it is not very big and will damage the product but will keep it safe. This will show people who
may believe there will be a problem with there item after the dot peen has tagged it will see
there is barely any difference. The company logo will be in the top right corner and the title
will be underneath in the middle. The title will be big and bold to make it stand out. The font
size will be 72 for this and then the rest of the text will be put at 20. The title will use a
different font to the rest of the text and will be in colour compared to the rest of the text
which will be in black. There will be a question to ask you and get the viewer involved asking
them do they know what the dot peen is. This will be underlined and in the same font and
colour as the title. Any type of important text will be in a different colour and bigger than the
regular text but nothing will be bigger than the title.
Finally there will be some links as well as some logo at the
bottom of the poster which are from some companies
that work with my client. One of the links will be a hash-
tag which is specific to the dot peen machine. The logo
are from other companies that work closely with the
police and the dot peen machine. Once the poster has
been created then it will be sent to the client for them to
check and make sure everything is okay and then it will be
used when the machine is being used, it will be put up in
the office and on the internet.
Treatment (visual elements)
Timescales:
You should prepare a production schedule that will allow you to manage your time over
the 3 weeks of production. This should include:
• Deadlines: Interim deadlines help you keep on track, final deadlines are final.
• Availability: The availability of the client and any other people you may need to help
you with your project. You will need to contact them. You might to do visit. You may
need to liaise with models, or photographers.
• Feedback: This is a working brief with a real client. You will need to get feedback on
your work and also allow yourself time to make appropriate changes. Plan appropriate
time in to you schedule so that you can do this.
• Resources: You should include a list of resources that you will need to complete your
project. Remember that this all needs to be your own work
In the first week I plan on getting all the resources that I will need to create the
poster. I plan on going out and getting some images of the machine in action. I will
also plan all the text that is going to go on the poster. I will also plan how I am going
to lay everything out on the poster, I will try a few different layouts before finding the
correct one. I will book out a camera from college so I am able to take god quality
images. In the second week I will be putting everything together and adding to the
background. I will add any final touches onto it and then send it to my client. Then I
will have the second part of the week to do any improvements that need making
before sending it again at the end of the week. I plan on seeing the client once each
week to keep them updated on what is going on in the project and if they have any
last minute additions to the poster. The resources I will need to complete this project
will be a camera from college to take the images of the machine, I will need a
computer that comes equipped with Photoshop and InDesign. I will be using
Photoshop to create the background and have all the images on and InDesign for the
text that is going on the poster. I also will need the internet so I can double check the
my description of the machine is correct. Also I will need it to find fonts and also logo
to put on the poster.

Idea development pro forma

  • 1. Client Project Pro- Forma Cameron Barnes
  • 2. Mind Maps/Brainstorms Star by using the first few slides to create mind maps and or brainstorms for ideas related to your project. Get as many possibilities as you can. Don’t worry about practicality, suitability or potential at this stage. You will assess the ideas later.
  • 3. Mind Maps/Brainstorms I have to use the logo at the bottom and the badge of the company I am working with. I plan on having some images of the products that the machine can work on which would make it easier for people to know exactly what the machine does. Also this allows people to have more of an understanding on how the machine works and what it is capable of doing. I plan on having a big title to make it stand out and capture the attention of the viewers. Using multiple colours for the background and the text colour. I will try out multiple different colours together and see which one works the best in my opinion. I plan on making it more interesting than the one they have know as it is bland and is not eye catching. I plan on having a image of the machine on the poster, it will either be in use or will be on a table or in the case this will depend on if the people using the machine in the image will give me the permission or is it fits in with the rest of the poster. Also I will have a question to introduce the poster as it will get people involved with the poster and make people more intrigued as they are being able to be apart of something. I plan for there to be objects on the poster in the sense of a list with tick boxes which you can then tick depending on which one the product is or similar to. I plan to have the links to the company so if there are any problems than you can get in touch with the company to find out more information. I will have an image on the poster of what it looks like when put on the product, showing what the lettering looks like and a little description above the image saying what it is.
  • 4. Assessing ideas Now you have generated lots of potential ideas, it is time to rationalise those against the requirements of the brief from your client. Use the next few slides to consolidate your ideas and then assess them against the requirements and constraints of the project. Finally, select an idea to take forward for further development.
  • 5. Poster The poster will be portrait The size will be A3 It will have the colours of the company as the background. Which are blue, red and yellow. The text will be in black. Images of the machine in action on the right and a image of the machine in a case on the left. The logo will be in the top right of the poster. The title will be in a clear font and will be bold so it stands out. There will be logo from companies that work with my company to put at the across the bottom. Under the title there will be a question asking if you know what the machine is. There will be a brief description of the machine and how it is used and the reason it would be used. The poster will be eye catching as it will have images and bright colours to grab the attention and then the informative text will keep them reading and interested in the poster. The client did not give anything specific to put in specific places accept the logo at the bottom and there logo in the top right. Once I have made this I will get feedback from my client to see what can be improved or if there are curtain things they want replaced due to they type of font or image I have used. Starting with something that is basic means I can see what the client is interested in and then work around that as the brief was not very informative this would be away to get more information to make it better if this is needed. Idea One
  • 6. Evaluation of idea • What do you like about the idea? It is very informative with examples making it easier for you to understand what the machine is about. I like the multiple images showing of every aspect of what the machine can do and what it looks like. I like the multiple colours which will help the poster stand compared to the previous one. I like the interactivity that will be on the poster getting people involved with it. • Does it match what the client wants? The client was vary brief with what they wanted but they wanted something eye catching which I believe with the multiple colours and images grabs he attention of the viewer which is what they wanted. • Are you capable of delivering this? I believe that I am able to make it eye catching using different fonts and colours that makes it stand out and make the poster interesting by having informative information they gives you an idea of what the product can do. • Can you do this on time? I believe that I will be able to make this in the time given the only problem would be if the client continuously keeps giving it back asking for improvements as I will only two weeks but as long as I can make it perfect and something that they like this will not be a problem. • Do you have the resources available to do this? I have the resources available to me between my own home or the resources at the college I will have everything I will need to make the poster that is required.
  • 7. Idea 2 Poster This idea will also be portrait A3 will be the size The colour scheme will be black and white, it will use black text on the white background. Having an image of what happens to the product when the machine has done what it does. Also before that I could have an image of the machine doing its job and that I will have the second image which will show what it does, it will be like the process that the company go through. The company logo will be in the top right The title will be in the same place as previously At the bottom of the poster there will be some logo of companies that work with my company. There will be a image of the lettering which is what it will look like when put on something instead of having the image of the text on something it will just the letters. It will also have links to the company and its own hash-tag on it. Which is given by the company. This poster will have more on it than the pervious one and will show a step by step process in images of what will be happening and also what the machine can do and what it looks like. This will have some of what the clients wants like the lettering image which is something they liked as well with the images can make it eye catching but using simple colours for the text could make people not as interested as the previous one. I believe that this idea shows more of what the machine is capable of and visually looks more appealing. I think this poster will give people a very good understanding of what it does without having to read up on it.
  • 8. Evaluation of idea • What do you like about the idea? I like that it is more visually pleasing compared to the previous one and is more about the images than the text. I also liked the images showing the process as it saves people reading about it and shows it more of an interesting way as people prefer to see images of something working than read about it. I like the fact it has its own hash-tag which makes it stand out compered to other posters. • Does it match what the client wants? As the client only wanted something that is eye catching I believe it does with the images including something that the client believed looked very good and interesting. I also have put my own ideas like the process of how it works in to as I believe it helps capture the attention of the viewer. • Are you capable of delivering this? I am capable of doing this as there are not to man things that are different from the first idea and most of the resources I need are available on a computer so there should not be any problems delivering it. • Can you do this on time? I will be able to do this in time as the images I can get of the internet and the text is only about the machine which I have a good understanding on how it works and what it is. • Do you have the resources available to do this? Between my home and the college I will have all the resources available to me. I could also get a camera out and take images myself of the process instead of using the internet, in which case I would need a camera but can get one from college.
  • 9. Idea 3 Poster The size will be A3 This will be portrait The colour scheme will be the colour of the machine which is red and black. The colour of the text will be white as some of the background will be black. There will be a large image of the machine in the middle of the poster and there will be text going around the image. The title will be big and bold and will be in a easy to read font. The logo will be In the top right There will be logo at the bottom from other companies that work with my company. It will have the links and also its own hash-tag. This is a more simple idea of poster compared to the others were there is just text and an image of what the machine looks like. The text will explain the machine and what it does, who it works, why the machine will be used and in what situation. This will not be exactly what the client has looked for but will be a simple idea, it will have a unique style which none of the other posters have as the text will go around the image whereas the other have text above the image.
  • 10. Evaluation of idea • What do you like about the idea? I like how simple the idea is, this idea does not have much of my own work in as it is just taking the simple stuff from the original poster and making it more of an up to date version. • Does it match what the client wants? It has a different style which makes it more eye catching which is what the client wants of the poster. Having something that the other ideas does not have makes it stand out more even if it is a simple poster. • Are you capable of delivering this? I am capable of making this as it is simple to make and it is only about positioning things and getting the information and the image which will be easy to do . • Can you do this on time? I will be able to complete this on time as a lot of the stuff I can take from one of the previous idea which makes it easy to put together. This poster will not go through much development as my other ones. • Do you have the resources available to do this? I have the resources available to me as the image will be on the internet or I have one already taken on my phone which I could e-mail myself to get it on the poster. The text is a description which I already have the understanding of the machine. All the fonts are also on the computer/internet.
  • 11. Idea 4 Poster It will be portrait It will be A3 The title will be big and bold to stand out also will be underlined. The colour of the tile will be different to the rest of the text as well as the font but will still be easy to understand and read. The background colour will be light blue to make the poster stand out and catch people attention as soon as they see the poster. There will be a question which will be underlined, bold and big like the tile but will be smaller than the title but will be in the same font and colour. The logo of the company will be in the top right and the title will sit under the logo. There will be a bit of a description of the machine with a image. The text will go around the image to make it more eye catching and interesting. The text will be in a different font to the title. There will be some images of the process with a brief description of what is going on under the images and at the end there will be an image of what the lettering looks like that the machine puts onto your item. There will be some images o items that the machine can work on to show the capability of the machine. There will be some logo at the bottom of other companies that work with my company There will be some links as well as there own hash-tag for the machine. This poster will have everything that the client has asked for as it will have images they like as well as having an eye catching feel. It will keep viewers interested with the layout of the images and text and it will tell you everything you need to know. It will be like a mash up of all the ideas in one poster. This has more of an advanced style compared to the other ideas, it will have a lot of visual aspects which is more eye catching than text and the images will tell the story the text will be there for people who don’t understand the machine.
  • 12. Evaluation of idea • What do you like about the idea? I like that it has a bit of everything, as it has some of my own style from previous ideas and it has what the client would like. It seems more interesting than the one they have know and has more information and images showing what it is capable of then the original one. Also the own hash-tag makes it stand out. The multiple colours and fonts make it eye catching and not boring from seeing the same font like the original one. • Does it match what the client wants? It does match what the client wants as it has an eye catching feel and has images that the client thought were very good and interesting. I also has some of my own style due to not having much to go of from the client. • Are you capable of delivering this? I am able to deliver this as it is mostly images and text which the images and different fonts I can get of the internet, the text is just about the machine which I know. • Can you do this on time? It will take more time than the other ideas but I will have enough time as lots of the items I need are on a computer so I will be able to complete it in the time given. • Do you have the resources available to do this? Between my home and the resources at the college I will have everything I need even if I choose to take images I can get a camera from the college.
  • 13. Idea Evaluation Which of your ideas do you want to develop further? Explain why you think that is the right idea to take forward. The idea that I am going forward with is the final idea as this idea just has everything that I believe make the poster seem eye catching. This idea has parts of what I believe makes the poster look good and the same with the client. Another reason I choose this idea is it seems like it will take longer and there are more things to do which I feel will fill the page and make it more interesting and as it has everything that the other have in just one it may save me time as if the client says they want something in the poster that for example is not in the first idea it is basically like I am making the final idea. Another thing I like about this idea is the multiple colours of the text and background as it uses bright colours to make it stand out and eye catching which is exactly what the client want. In my opinion it has more to offer than the original poster as it has more on it and shows more of the machine and how it works.
  • 14. Development Use the next slides to document your idea development. This should include mood boards and other visual examples of work. It could include basic mock ups of your vision for the project using the work of others. If you are taking doing something outside of your ordinary skill set or way of working, you could include test work or practice work here too. There is room to develop a second idea here as well. This could give you a greater variety of options to give to your client. You will then assess your developed idea against the constraints of the project before producing a final treatment.
  • 15. Developed Idea 1 Font – The type of font I will be using for the title and the question will be impact. The reason for this is it is a bold font that stands out compared to other fonts. The font size for the title will be 72 and the question will be 60. The font for the regular text will be Calibri body and the size will be 20. This image shows how I will follow this colour throughout the poster, these colours will be the scheme and the design style. The one I will be using the most will be the light blue it shows over options that I could use and also other colours that mix well with the colour I have chosen.
  • 16. Assessment of final ideas Suitable for audience? The audience could be anyone as the the machine works on most items people bring in so there is not a specific audience. But when people see the poster it will grab there attention with the bright colours and bold title. The images showing what the machine can do will keep the audience interested and will teach them what it does and if it is worth it. Suitability for client? The poster is suitable for the client as it has what they want. It is eye catching and has images that they like on the poster. The only thing that I mainly added is the structure of how everything is going to be layout. I was given mostly freedom so anything that is on the poster the client does not mind. Appeal of the work: The first idea has some of what I want and then some of what the client would like. The idea is more visually pleasing which is good because this makes it more eye catching which is what the client wants. The idea is simple to make using images from the internet and some text which is about the machine which is something that I already know about. It is more appealing to the audience compared to the original one.
  • 17. • Timescales for production: I have three weeks to create what the client wants. I will start by making the background and the text first as this will be the hardest part of the poster. Then I will move onto getting the images, the plan will be to go out with some police officers and take some images to see how it used in person. Once I have the images I will then put the images on the poster and move the text to fit the poster. Finally I will decide where everything is going to be placed on the poster and the order of which I want the content to be. • Costs: My final idea will not cost anything as everything I need I will have available to me for free. The cost I will have will be getting into college to get the resources I need to make my poster but I will not need any money for any of the resources. Also seen as I am taking my own photos and I have been given permission to use curtain logo on the poster. • Personnel: I will not need any help making the poster but in some of the images I take there ma be people in them as they will be using the machine, but other than that there will be no other personnel working on my poster.
  • 18. Assessment of final ideas Legal and ethical issues: I will need to make sure that there are no legal or ethical issues in my poster. This will include the images and fonts that I will use. If this work is put onto the internet I would have to make sure that nothing on the poster has anything that I am not allowed as this would put me into legal issues. I will make sure that anything I take from the internet that I am allowed before I give it to the client so there will be no legal problems.
  • 20. Competition/Market research: Who is in competition with your client? There are not really anybody in competition with my client as they are the police but there are other companies that are trying to do similar things as the dot peen from the police. They may be like where they are trying to protect people property in a other way to the dot peen for example like a neighbourhood watch. This Is where people try to create a stronger community in there area and look after people in their community. There are a few different companies that use the machine and one that is Woking with the police called Telesis. There are companies that do a similar thing that the dot peen machine does where they will look after your house by using cameras. Another person that willing to help are pcso who are called the eyes and ears of the police. These are people who will walk around the streets protecting people and getting intelligence which then they will pass onto the police how will then decide if they want to get involved. There are other police forces how use the dot peen machine but they also do not charge as this benefits the police. What is their design/photography/marketing/promotional/advertising work like? What wider market is your client part of? Undertake research in to that market. This could be in the form of sales figures, audience figures, turnover, job roles, customer base, market share, rules, regulations and codes of practice. As my client is the police they are not part of a wider market but the company thy work with Telesis are part of laser marker market. This market does not have many companies involved in this. Telesis are the biggest as they are a world wide company and also work with the police.
  • 21. The design of this poster is split the page in half, as they have images in the top and the text underneath. They use the same font throughout the poster, just changing the size and changing the title to bold. They use question to get the viewer involved. They start with a statement to get people drawn in and use different colour for the main parts of the text to make them stand out. They have used the same image except changing what the person is calling for which goes well with the statement. They use the colours Of the ambulance. They have put the logo in the bottom left of the poster and have put the other logo on the bottom right under all the text. This poster was put onto there website to advertise that ambulances are serious and you are to only call when needed. There is a very serious them to it and that it is not a joke even though they use a quote that is funny. Also the NHS will promote there poster on there website as the work closely with the hospital. They are trying to get the point across in a jokingly but serious manner. The poster is trying to get people to not call the ambulance unless there is a serious problem otherwise they are wasting there time.
  • 22. This poster is different to the previous one as this is portrait and not landscape. It still uses the fire station colours, They have gone for big lettering and put the important information at the top and the lower you get in the poster than the text because smaller. The text is in the same font and is bold. It uses a big image that covers most of the poster and the image relates to the purpose of the poster. It also some images of what happens in the open day that they are putting on. They are promoting the fire brigade to a younger audience as shown in the image. Thy are allowing people to get a feeling of what it is like to be a fireman. The colour scheme for the text goes throughout the poster going from yellow and red. They have the badge on the bottom right of the poster. They have used a photograph from a previous open day. They are advertising themselves and also a phone which is like a mascot. The page is layed out in three different sections, the title, the image, the extra information.
  • 23. Audience/Customer research: Who is the audience or customer that your client is trying to reach? Perhaps they have already told you. Perhaps you should ask. You could also do further research in to the type of audience or customer you are hoping to appeal to. For my poster it is meant to be aimed at young adults and teenagers that are either male or female and is meant to be something they would be interested in. But the product itself could be aimed at anyone. My client is trying to get more young people to get there things dot peened so hey can keep them protected and if they are to go missing then the police can find them. But personally I am trying to get anyone who is worried about the protection of there things to get there items dot peened. I am trying to get people how are on the edge of doing it to definitely do it and also people how don’t want to have it happen than try and convince them to get it done. Also try to aim at people how no nothing about the dot peen and it capabilities, so they know about it in the future. Also it could be aimed at people who are having problems with losing there valuables, as this poster can lead you into the right direction into finding a solution. As it is free and done by the police anybody can afford to have it done, all people have to do is call up and find out about it and get in touch with the police.
  • 24. Content research: This should take the form of secondary research (exiting products from your client and the competition and wider market) and also some primary research (asking potential audience, your client and your market,) to help you formalise the content of your project. The company I am working with have not made any existing products but the company they work with called Telesis have some existing products. They have different dot peen machines and very similar products that do a similar job. They have laser markers which are used to substrate thing likes wood, glass and fabrics. They have different types of laser markers and each one can mark different items. They have different series of laser markers and the different series mark different items for example the f series marks metals or plastics and then the U series marks plastics and silicon materials. The competition that Telesis have are from SIC marketing and technomark. All three companies use the dot peen as well as laser of scribing devices that you can use on your items. Seen as the police are with Telesis this could mean that the police are in competition with the other companies. The way SIC marking layout there poster Is having an image in the centre of the poster, but there is not much information so people how don’t know what it does do not have much to go on from this poster. They have used the same colours throughout the poster. They are focused on the machine in the poster and not much more, they also show different ranges the dot peen can reach. The technomark poster has an image of the dot peen and talks about the parts of the machine and also sticks to a similar colour scheme all the way through. This uses fancier fonts compared to the SIC marketing poster. But there is not much information on what it does like the previous one. On my poster I am going to add more information and more images than these two. I plan on having images of what it can work on and describe what it is and what it can do which will give people more information about what it is then these two. These existing posters suggest that my client is wanting something simple and subtle design. My poster will be not like either of these posters but will use a similar colour scheme throughout.
  • 25. Treatment: The treatment evokes how an audience will experience what you are making. Write in the active-voice in present tense. Tell the reader what they will see. Describe the content of your project. Write vibrantly, so the reader gets excited about your work. They should be able to visualise the finished pieces. You could also supplement this with some mood boards or mock ups. Be specific—don’t use words like may, might or possibly.
  • 26. Treatment I will be creating a poster to replace the one they have know. My client is hoping to have a poster that is eye catching and something that a younger audience would see and be interested in bringing in there property so that the machine can tag it and then if it does get stolen the police can find it easier. This will be presented next to the machine when the machine is in use and also will be show online for people to see. People all over the UK will be able to see it and then thy will be able to learn more about what it does and how it can help. The start of the poster will introduce people to what it does and how it works with images showing this as well as text. This will give people more of an understanding, it will also by eye catching because of the images which will be interesting. Then there will be some items that the machine can work on showing you what it can do and what it cant do. For example thee will images on computers, game consoles and bikes this will show what can be tagged and also will sate the items that can not be marked by the dot peen. There is going to be a image of what it will look like when it is on your product so you can see what it will look like and realize it is not very big and will damage the product but will keep it safe. This will show people who may believe there will be a problem with there item after the dot peen has tagged it will see there is barely any difference. The company logo will be in the top right corner and the title will be underneath in the middle. The title will be big and bold to make it stand out. The font size will be 72 for this and then the rest of the text will be put at 20. The title will use a different font to the rest of the text and will be in colour compared to the rest of the text which will be in black. There will be a question to ask you and get the viewer involved asking them do they know what the dot peen is. This will be underlined and in the same font and colour as the title. Any type of important text will be in a different colour and bigger than the
  • 27. regular text but nothing will be bigger than the title. Finally there will be some links as well as some logo at the bottom of the poster which are from some companies that work with my client. One of the links will be a hash- tag which is specific to the dot peen machine. The logo are from other companies that work closely with the police and the dot peen machine. Once the poster has been created then it will be sent to the client for them to check and make sure everything is okay and then it will be used when the machine is being used, it will be put up in the office and on the internet.
  • 29. Timescales: You should prepare a production schedule that will allow you to manage your time over the 3 weeks of production. This should include: • Deadlines: Interim deadlines help you keep on track, final deadlines are final. • Availability: The availability of the client and any other people you may need to help you with your project. You will need to contact them. You might to do visit. You may need to liaise with models, or photographers. • Feedback: This is a working brief with a real client. You will need to get feedback on your work and also allow yourself time to make appropriate changes. Plan appropriate time in to you schedule so that you can do this. • Resources: You should include a list of resources that you will need to complete your project. Remember that this all needs to be your own work
  • 30. In the first week I plan on getting all the resources that I will need to create the poster. I plan on going out and getting some images of the machine in action. I will also plan all the text that is going to go on the poster. I will also plan how I am going to lay everything out on the poster, I will try a few different layouts before finding the correct one. I will book out a camera from college so I am able to take god quality images. In the second week I will be putting everything together and adding to the background. I will add any final touches onto it and then send it to my client. Then I will have the second part of the week to do any improvements that need making before sending it again at the end of the week. I plan on seeing the client once each week to keep them updated on what is going on in the project and if they have any last minute additions to the poster. The resources I will need to complete this project will be a camera from college to take the images of the machine, I will need a computer that comes equipped with Photoshop and InDesign. I will be using Photoshop to create the background and have all the images on and InDesign for the text that is going on the poster. I also will need the internet so I can double check the my description of the machine is correct. Also I will need it to find fonts and also logo to put on the poster.
