The game is a 2D side-scrolling beat 'em up where the player controls a golem tasked with protecting a village from two invading kingdoms at war with each other. There are two gameplay modes - in one the golem is a little taller than soldiers and plays like Castle Crashers or Streets of Rage, while the other has a larger golem that fights like in Street Fighter and is used for boss battles. The goal is to defeat both kingdoms and bring peace to the land. The game aims to appeal to 16-20 year olds of various social classes and incomes with its story-driven gameplay and save features for interrupted play sessions.

Guardian Golem Protects Village
1. Working Title:
Guardian Golem
Target Gaming Platform:
PC, Xbox one, PS4, Switch
Genre:
It is a 2D side scrolling beat ‘em up/fighting game with a fantasy theme. The main game is
single player with a multiplayer option.
Language / Territories
I would release it in all countries if possible. It may be unsuitable for countries that have
knights and samurai in their culture because they are described as “evil kingdoms” in my
game. It shouldn’t be too bad because I’m not focusing on 1 main kingdom to be the bad
guy. Just to avoid trouble I can always describe the kingdoms as “invading kingdoms”.
Synopsis / Treatment / Story / How the game plays:
The game is about a peaceful village being invaded by 2 evil kingdoms that are at war with
each other. The village elder prayed to the goddess Terra and asked her for help. The
goddess responded by summoning a golem tasked to protect the village from the kingdoms.
The gameplay has 2 modes. 1. The golem is only a little taller then regular soldiers. This
mode plays like other beat ‘em up games like Castle Crashers and Streets of Rage where
you can move side to side as well as up and down. 2. The golem is now large enough to
fight monsters. This mode plays like a 2D fighting game such as Street Fighter except your
adventuring. This mode will only let you move side to side. This mode will mostly be use for
bosses. You most either go to the west to defeat that kingdom or go to the east and defeat
that kingdom. The end goal is to defeat both kingdoms and bring peace to the land.
One Line SalesPitch:
Be the guardian and defeat the invading kingdoms
Style (similar products and graphical style):
The gameplay is similar to Castle Crashers, Streets of Rage, Teenager Mutants Ninja Turtles:
Turtles in Time, Street Fighter where you walk from one screen to the other and fight
enemiesalong the way. I thought that a beat em up style is the best way to make an action
game about war with pixels. I liked the complex pixel art style of Streets of Rage, Turtles in
Time and Street Fighter because this style helps to improve the look of the game. I decided
to use a simpler pixel art style because I felt that I would not have enough time or
experience to make my game as detailed. The art style in my game will use pixel graphics
and a bright colour palate at the beginning but it will get slightly darker as you progress to
show how the evil kingdoms have changed the land. I chose a bright colour palate because I
think that this style of game has a longer lasting appeal than most dark styled games.
Audience:
My target audience is aged 16-20+ and I will appeal to this age group by making a mature
story, target gender is both male and female because the main character, the golem, has no
gender. The Social status of my target audience is C1, C2, D and E. These people are part
time workers, students, young people living with their parents and people on benefits, I will
2. appeal to this group by having levels that can last awhile but I will have a save point feature
so that if they need to go anywhere they can save the game and go to that place and after
they finished they can go back to where they last left of. Psychographic: teens may like this
because you can escape from the real world into the world of myths and legends. Balanced
people may also like this because you are trying to stop war between 2 evil kingdoms where
one is trying to enslave people and the other is trying to steal resources. Seeing that
Balanced people want to benefit mankind they would like the idea of stopping slavery and
aggressive theft.
Legal & Ethical Considerations:
Think about any offensive material you will include? There will be violence, not killing violence
but violence nevertheless.
Will you restrict younger gamers playing it? The game will be age gated so children below the
age of 16 cannot buy the game.
Will it offend any social groups/religions/ethnicities? If I get the origins of the cultures and golem
wrong… maybe
How will you ensure you do not offend anyone? I will not be using any sexual content, graphic
content (gore) or racist content
Is your game using characters/names/logos of existing games/IPs? Nope
Will you game be sufficiently different from existing games to not get sued for copyright
infringement? There will be no characters that resemble other video game characters.
