The document provides details on the pre-production planning for a pixel art style video game. It includes descriptions of the building style, color palettes, layouts, sound effects, music choices, and contingency planning. References are made to inspiration from nostalgic 8-bit games and using tools like BeepBox to create sound effects and music fitting the retro style. Potential health and safety issues during production are also considered, along with solutions to avoid risks.
2. Style sheet
This is a similar style to what I want to make, the building style is my main
focus in this image. The next image shows off the kind of style I want to use
when the character is in a building. For the colours, I am probably going to use
greys, blacks, and whites mainly. Because the game is set in a city, I want it to
show the buildings off to be that of a city, or other built up area. I will most
likely also use some blues, greens and browns, to get the natural environment
as accurate as I can, keeping in mind it wont look to great as it will be in more
of a pixel style. As my game is going to be this pixel style, the font wont be a
usual one. The letters should show of the style that I'm going for. The two
colour pallets, centered around grey and black, are useful as they show colours
that work well around those colours.

These songs are there as inspiration for the style of music I want to create. I am going to use
BeepBox.com, the link to it is on the previous slide. The reason is that its easy to use, flexible in the
export stage and flexible in the effects you can use to get the music you want. I think that the 8 bit
music will fit well with the style of game that I'm going for. It fits with the visuals quite well, as games
used to look very similar and sound similar to what I want to create. This should hopefully play into
using nostalgia to attract and keep people playing for a while. The people in my target age range, 15-
24. Many of people in the older end of the will hopefully see nostalgia through it, the younger side will
hopefully be attracted to it being a game. As many people at the younger end play a fair few games.
The music is a big part of any game, but is often overlooked as its not a visual part of it. Often the best
parts of games are the music/ sound effects they use. I will try to create something that fits with the
visuals and creates an atmosphere of nostalgia. Even if its only for a short time.
8. Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
The computer malfunctions, it deletes all saved documents and
work.
Make sure there is backup versions of the work in
multiple external places. For example, on a USB or
cloud storage.
The computer that you usually use is being repaired. Another
can not be provided for you.
Have a laptop or other computer on you ready if this
happens, Or be able to acquire one, maybe from your
home or from a friend/class mate.
All of your work is deleted or lost, you have no digital back ups
at all.
Make sure to keep notes on important and key parts of
you work, this would be the last resort if you lost
anything.
The weather blocks you from getting to college, where the
production software, like Photoshop, is.
Use the time to plan ahead, know what what you'll do
when you can get back to college. O r if you have the
software and work at home, you can continue your
work as normal.
The website/ software that you planned to use to create music
and sounds on, is no longer able to be used. (Beep box, garage
band)
You should have a backup website/software to use in
case of this happening.
The computer deletes only one document, the one with all
your work on it
Save your work periodically, but save to a new place,
calling it by the same name but with a v1.2 on the end.
This should mean you only loose some of your work, it
should help you to get back to where you were.
9. Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be avoided?
You spill water on the computer, causing sparks.
Its now a risk to use.
Don’t have water, or any beverage, near the
computer, must be kept in bags, except for
short uses for hydration, away from the
computers.
You don’t notice you're connected to the
computer wire, you stand up and accidentally
pull the computer with you. The screen breaks
and shard of glass from the screen are on the
floor, this is very unsafe, even when wearing
shoes, this can lead to foot injuries.
Make sure you are cautious and aware of your
workspace. When it is cluttered and messy its
hard to keep things organised, or even just see
potential issues. Keep it organised and clear,
this should make it easier to see the potential
issues and help avoid them.
You fall off your chair and hurt your back. This
could be a minor injury, or it could far more
serious.
Make sure you are sitting on you chair in a safe
and normal way, using it in ways that it isn't
designed for can be unsafe.
The wire from your headphones is around your
neck in an unsafe way, this could lead to an
injury.
Be careful when using equipment like
headphones, the wire can be unsafe if not used
with a standard of caution.
You are not looking where you're going, you trip
by loosing you footing, you fall and hit either a
chair or table.
Watch where you're going and be aware of your
surroundings.
A small fire breaks out, the furniture in the
room would only make it bigger, potentially
causing more and more harm.
Make sure that any source of
ignition/combustion, like a lighter, is concealed
in a safe and cautious way, like in a bag and not
just on the table.
Editor's Notes
Explore colours, fonts and image styles similar to what you want to produce. Discuss all three elements in relation to why you chose them and where you may use them in your project. Go over as many pages as you need to
