4. Style sheet
To create these different colour palettes I used the website
Paletton. Because my video game is going to be set in a forest,
there will be a prominent colour scheme of earth tones and
nature. The different shades of brown allowed me to know
what colours to shade in the ground and trunks of the trees to
make them look more realistic with highlighted and shaded
areas. One colour that matches with dark brown nicely is a dark
blue. This highlights to me that I could make the clothes on the
avatar this colour. Another colour I picked was green; to colour
the trees, grass etc. One colour that works well with green is
dark purple. This could be another colour that I will incorporate
onto my avatar to make it stand out against the green
background.
The colours that I have picked are dark and earth toned which
means that are not that bright and colourful and do not grab
your attention. However, this research has helped me so that I
can pick colours for my avatars to wear.
5. Screenshot Layout 1
The background layer will be set in a forest where the avatar will fight the disease. The background will
be edited to move in a smooth circle. The avatar will also move their legs to give the illusion that they
are running. The avatar will also shoot out bullets from their gun to kill the disease , (they will fire
across the screen). At the bottom left of the screen, there will be a counter that shows the layer how
many bullets they have left. I will also have a counter in the top left of how many coins you have
collected. The final counter will be in the top right, counting how many people have died so far due to
the disease.
6. Screenshot Layout 2
The layout of my game is very simple because the game is side scrolling. This means that the
background is going to be detailed with shaded and highlighted areas, however the avatars will not be
as detailed. I am not good at drawing therefore I find it difficult drawing on the computer with pixels. I
would like to incorporate technique where the avatar shoots the disease ad it turns to fire and burns. I
will try to make my background and avatars as detailed as possible so that the video game is in a cell
shading artistic style.
7. Sound Effects/Dialogue
Sound Effect How You Could Make It
Collecting a coin Record coins in my pocket making a noise. It would
be quite loud so the player would know when they
collected coins.
Shooting gun Bang a book on the table. This is very loud and
dramatic so that it signified a gun shot. It would
create a small echo like a gun shot.
Fire as disease dies Record fire crackling. This gives the game a realistic
feel even though the graphics are cartoon-like.
Start level/completed level Clank glasses together. This would create a high
pitched noise that stands out like the introductory
noise to a level.

9. Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
Water spilling over computer. Avoid drinking at the computers at all if you
can. The alternative would be to drink bottled
water and keep the lid on tight. Do not drink
anything apart from water at the desk. If need
be, step outside for a drink.
Losing/breaking memory stick. Keep memory stick in a purse to keep it safe. To
avoid breaking the memory stick, ensure that
you have ejected it properly so that no work is
lost. Make sure you back up all your work on
another place apart from your memory stick so
that there is always back up.
Being ill/ can not come in to college. Email your tutor and ask what work you are
going to miss and see if you can complete the
work at home.
Wires all over the floor (trip hazard). Charge all work at the plug sockets on your
desk to avoid wires scattered all over the floor
which could be a trip hazard. Keep all
equipment that you are using on your desk.
Computer crashing and no longer working. Moving computer with your memory stick so
that no work is lost and no time is wasted
waiting for it to load.
10. Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
Bags on the floor creating a trip hazard. Ensure that all bags are stored under the table
to avoid anyone tripping over them.
Wires all over the floor creating a trip hazard. Make sure that the wires are plugged into plug
sockets to avoid wires being spread across the
floor/room and someone tripping over them.
Keep all equipment that are using at your desk.
Eyes straining. Staring at the computer for too long will begin
to hurt your eyes. Therefore, take regular 20
minute breaks to give your eyes a rest from
concentrating so hard.
Water spilt onto computer. Ensure that the water is in a bottle with a tight
lid. Only have water on the desk when you want
to drink. Step outside to drink anything else
except water.
Headaches. Concentrating so hard for a long time will cause
headaches. Remember to keep drinking water
and have regular 20 minute breaks.
Editor's Notes
Explore colours and pixel art styles similar to what you want to produce. Discuss these elements in relation to why you chose them and where you may use them in your project. Go over as many pages as you need to.
Mock up of a potential design using the colours and sourced images. Alter this slide to make it appropriate for your planned product types. Use the content established in your style sheet to do this.
