1. Genre

2. Description
 Genre is a term used to describe the type of something in
media. If we refer to magazines, there can be many different
types that are distinguished by different categories.
 Some examples would be as follows:
- Womens
- Mens
- Teen
- Sports
- News
and many more.

3. Conventions
 Each and every genre has their codes and conventions
which differ slightly or majorly depending on the comparison.
 An example of a convention in magazines is in music
magazine, regularly they will feature one of the artists as the
front cover photo which will take up most of the page.

4. News
 News magazines often have a bold title which will alert the
user, around the page there will be small stories giving the
reader various pieces to look at. They will often have small
images around various places while having a large image for
the main story as the back layer.
 The writing is different depending on whether is a gossip or
informative magazine. Gossip magazines are often personal
and very opinionated, they also talk as if they were in
conversation. Informative magazines will talk about the facts
and sources while describing the situation.

5. Music
 A music magazine often will use the main artist which they
have interviewed to entice the reader, a good use of this
would involve using a very popular artist in perfect visibility.
The titles of articles with maybe a small description will be
placed around the artists main photo as they will be the main
talking point of the magazine.

6. Design
 A design magazine will be very focused on the style. Often
the magazine will be relatively upper-class and aiming at
audiences over 24 with the odd exception. The front cover
may often feature a unique or very nice piece that is eye
catching for the user. Due to it being a design magazine, they
will normally be the best looking and most visually pleasing
for the audience.

7. Fashion
 Fashion magazines are often very colourful or they follow the
seasonal/what’s in trend colour scheme. The main photo will
be of a person (usually female) in the current style clothes or
an image that represents a latest style. The masthead will
generally display information about the magazine’s issue
details, date and also their main logo. Sub-Titles will not be
fully appealing but will still show current events and
information which is displayed inside the magazine.

8. Sports/Fitness
 Sports and fitness magazines often advertise many products
and advise people on what to do to get the best gain with
their body or fitness levels. The front face for the magazine is
normally somebody who is famous in the industry i.e. David
Beckham advertising football equipment. Masthead only
consists of the magazine brand and maybe a small issue
number and date. The magazine is quite based on
advertisements.
