2. OVERVIEW
I intend to make a magazine for the indie/alternative market.
There aren’t too many publications in this genre on the current
market, which makes the chances of success higher- the audience has
a greater chance of peaking in interest.
After my research into this genre, I found there is a significant gap
in the market for a product of this appeal.
3. THE INSTITUTION
The institution that might produce this magazine would most likely
be an individual company that keeps the amount of products they
produce to a minimum.
One small institution, for
example, being Plastic Media, who
currently produce one of the most
popular magazines in this genre:
Indie Magazine.
4. TARGET AUDIENCE
Age range: 17-28
Gender: Not specific, but it is most likely to lean more towards a feminine audience.
The demographic will range from students and other members of the E group, right
up to the B group i.e. creative and media people.
The audience will most likely be made up of individualists- people who like to stand
away from the crowd and think for themselves. In some ways, the audience will also be
Hedonists, so it is ideal to have the magazine be exciting and engaging for those seeking
fun.
The audience don’t tend to be loyal to just one brand, so a range should be included.
6. STYLE
The magazine will be quite laid back and creative
to reflect the genre. I would like to incorporate some
art and photography into the magazine, since
through research I have found that the genre tends
to incorporate this a lot.
The mode of address will be informal to match
the lax attitude of the TA.
7. POSSIBLE NAMES
The Record Stop
TurnTable (TT logo continued through the magazine)
Sell Out
UnderPlay
Radio Muse
8. OVERVIEW
The music that will be covered will mainly focus on unsigned bands
that are currently under the radar.
It will be a sort of ‘Introducing…’ style magazine.
It would also feature bands that make indie/alternative music that are
more popular, such as Mumford and Sons, Young the Giant and The
Coral.
This would be done through exclusive interviews/articles, news
pages, album reviews etc.
9. THE DOUBLE -PAGE
ARTICLE
I intend to present this article in an interview format, where-in I
will show the question that has been asked, and write the answers
given by each member underneath.
It will feature an interview with an undiscovered band talking
about inspirations, aspirations, current projects (i.e. gigs, album work)
The background will consist of a
posed group shot, since in my
research I found that this is used
often for the subject artist.
