The word Mushroom used for the Edible Members of
Macrofungi and Termed as Food of the God. There are 14,000 Species
of Mushrooms Reported in the World More than 2000 Species are
Regarded as Edible, Less than 25 Species are Widely Accepted as Food
and only about 12 Species of them have been Domesticated and
Artificially Cultivated.
Mushrooms are becoming Popular not only for their Exotic
Flavour and Taste but also for their Nutritive Value. Mushrooms are Rich
in Protein, Dietary Fiber, Vitamins and Minerals, Moderate
Carbohydrate and Less Lipid. Mushroom is considered as a Complete,
Healthy and Low Calorie Ideal Food and suitable for all Age Groups
and occupy a Place between Meat and Vegetables.

 They are Soft, Leathery and Woody.

Agaricus.

nutritive value and it contains High
Protein (35%) and 18% of Fiber in
Dry Weight.

Cytotoxic, Psychoactive Toxic, Nephrotoxic Narcotic and
Hallucinogenic and Lethal Compounds that lead to many Problems
in Gastrointestinal , Respiratory, Nervous and Cardiovascular
System. The Practical Knowledge and Experience are required to
identify the Poisonous Mushrooms.

Characteristic Features of Poisonous Mushrooms
 A Distinctive Feature of Poisonous Mushrooms is the Presence of
Both the Structures a Annulus Ring in the middle of the stalk
and a Volva (a cup or saucer like Structure) at the base of the stalk
of the Mushroom.
 They are Very Soft
 The Skin of the Cap cannot be Easily Peeled Off.
 Poisonous Mushrooms are Colourful and Attractive.
 Milk like Exudation Oozes out from the damaged part of
Mushroom.
 Poisonous Mushrooms are generally Bitter or Sour in Taste
 Mostly it is Unpleasant Smell.
