Who would be the audience for your media product?
I believe that my music magazine would appeal to an
age range between 16-23 which is typical of the
rock/alternative genre, also when conducting my
market research i found that 80% were aged between
this age range. Also due to the age range, the target
audience will be students, therefore their occupation
will most likely be unemployed, however my market
research did show that a small percentage had part
time jobs. Because of this i feel that my magazine will attract a middle
class audience which is also very typical of a rock/alternative genre of magazine.
My market research also shown that the people who buy magazines tend to buy
either Kerrang or Q magazine, which are the magazines that i based my media
product on.
People who enjoy listening to rock/alternative music will be
attracted to my magazine, which is emphasized through the
cover lines which include rock artists such as "Muse". It will
also attract people who enjoy reading articles and
interviews about their favourite artists/bands.
My magazine contains images of young models, therefore
anchoring the fact that my magazine is aimed at a younger
audience like the magazines in my product research such
as Kerrang.
I created a focus group which contained people aged between 16-24 which
would be the main target audience for my magazine. This focus group allowed
people to comment and express their feelings upon my magazine. People
commented that they would be interested in reading my magazine and gave
positive feedback, stating that it looks professional due to the quality of images
and the consistent house style. They also commented on the bold colours used
were eye catching and that they appealed to the younger target audience.
