2. Target Readership
The target readership (audience) that I have based my music magazine
on appealing to it 16 to 24 years. I have chosen this ages range of
people because it is the average age that most people will be buying
music magazines. The music magazine will appeal to them for different
ways such as social interaction as they will be able to talk about it with
their peers as well as escapism from their real lives, which at this point
will most likely be education based.
This is also the age at which people will be starting to get jobs whether
part time or full time. This means that they will have an income of their
own and so money to spend on their own leisure.
At this age they will be experimenting with their lifestyle. Whether that
is their group of friends, likes and interests or their music taste. This
means that they are most likely to start buying the magazine to keep up
to date with their favorite music or to find out more about different
genres.
The average reader of my music magazine is confident, popular and
keen. This means they are likely to try out more eccentric music with an
open mind and will be open to trying out different things. This means
that attracting then to the magazine using crazy, out there puffs will be
useful. The target readership will be a mixture or females and males
which means I can place a wider range of features in my magazine to
appeal to both genders.
3. Form and Style
My magazine will be in colour as this way it will attract attention ad the
images will be a better quality. It will also keep the reader interested in
the magazine and will be stimulating for them. The magazine will be A4
like most other magazines. It will contain features such as celebrity
gossip, gig and tour dates, interviews, reviews and self help etc. The
features are the most likely to interest the reader and have the same as
others to compete.
My front cover will almost always contain one large image of a model.
The models will be young (close to the readers age) or anyone that is
high in the media at that moment in time. The models can be a mixture
of males, females and groups to keep the readers on their toes and
keep up with the other magazines on sale. Using models that are
attract or good role models will help attract the target readership.
Although the models will also keep with the indie/pop genre of the
magazine.
Along with a large central image I will fill the cover with puffs and tag
lines etc. these will all be bold and colourful to attract attention to the
magazine but will still keep with the colour scheme (house style).
The whole magazine will be kept contemporary and lively. The same
colours will be used throughout to keep to readers eye being drawn
through the magazine. Filling the magazine and making it look
cluttered and over filling will show the readers it is worth the money
they pay and gives more than the other magazines of sale.
My price will be £1.50. this is to the cheaper side of the average price
that music magazines cost and a good price for people of my audience.
4. Themes and Typical
features
My music magazine will have it ordinary features in each issue.
These will be features that every other music magazine on sale
has and is what the readers most want to see. These basic typical
features will include the charts, a new band/artist interview, an
album review, a self help article and and article on an artist etc.
The magazine will also be full of extras like puffs and features
that are not just about music such as film reviews, next books
and film and cringe stories. These may not be in every magazine
as there are many other random features that could be included
in the magazine. Mixing these up will keep the reader interested
and excited for the next issue.
The theme of the magazine will be generally informal which will
made a change from the readers everyday life. The informal
language style will make the magazine an easy read and will help
the readers to identify with the magazine more.
5. Potential Advertisers
I will advertise a range of different products in my music magazine. Most of the product/brands will be linked to
music or to the interests of the target readership. Fashion will be a popular advertisement in my magazine
because of the age range I am appealing to. This means brands like Topshop/Topman, River Island and Vans will
feature in my magazine a lot.
Another interest of this age range is food and drink. Popular products like Lucazade, Coca Cola will be good
marketing as well as alcoholic drinks such as Smirnoff.
Keeping a wide range of advertisement in the magazine will fill it up and keep the target readership interested in
what is hot on the market that they could get their hands on. It will also help the readers keep un to date with
new trends and styles.
6. Editorial Team
The editorial team will be young, modern, stylish people. They will be a mixture of females and males so each
genders get a say in what goes into the magazine as they will know what will appeal to the audience. Keeping as
much of the team as possible young and close to the age of the target readership will help them know what the
readers want and what features will make the magazine the most successful it could be.
The team will come from a wide range of places and cultures. This will keep the ideas new and interesting and will
also make sure that the magazine appeals to everyone.
The team will work well together and have lots of fun and chemistry to bring out the bets news and features and
bring the straight to the readers in the best way possible.
