Music Magazine Covers
Button:
This is a piece of information in a
box on the cover of a magazine. It
could be acting as a kicker giving
a bit of information about an
article, or it could be acting as an
advert for something to with the
Puff: magazine or company.
A free gift that comes with the magazine to try
and sell more copies of that issue.
Kickers:
These are small pieces of information about the
articles inside. These are used to draw the
audiences interest and encourage them to buy the
magazine. The most important ones are larger, and
often higher up on the page, this as they follow the
inverted ‘S’,. Some may even be a different font or
colour. This is to draw attention. This ensures that
they sell the most possible copies.
Barcode:
The barcode is placed at the bottom of the page on the right hand side. This is
as it follows the inverted ‘s’ that people have whilst scanning the cover of the
magazine. Their eyes start at the top left of the page and zigzag down in a
backwards ‘s’ shape.
Masthead:
The magazine allows the masthead to be place d in the background behind the
models as it is a popular and iconic brand. Their logo is very recognisable, and
well known. They feel people do not need to see the whole logo as they have a
large readership and people still recognise the magazine.
Main models:
They often take up most of the page. Thy are
often in the mid or foreground, they often cover
the masthead as they are why people will buy
their magazine. The models they chose may help
gain more readership and a larger audience. The
model is able to change the target audience, or
even make it a special issue that breaks the usual
conventions of that specific brand.
Colour scheme:
There are three main colours on
this cover, they are orange,
white , and red. Orange has
connotations of fire. This creates
imagery of hell . Red has many
different connotations, some
happy, and some not so happy.
Red has connotations of love and
romance, these are occasionally
expressed in the rock genre,
however it is not often. Red also
has connotations of anger, blood
and the devil. This often
expressed in rock music. White
has connotations of being calm
and clean. This is in contrast with
the red and the white. However,
white also symbolise death in the
sense that people associate death
with heaven, heaven is often
described as a warm calm place,
and it start off being a white light.
Masthead:
The masthead is in the foreground of the page over
the model. This could be as it is a less iconic brand.
It also could be as they feel the model is less
important and people are more likely to buy that
magazine for the brand instead of who they are
writing about.
