1. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
2. Throughout the project I had to take pictures with a camera for my front cover, contents page and double paged spread. I had to use a computer to create my magazine as all the software and programmes were on there. I also had to use a printer as I had to print off several copies so it could be assessed and then my final print off’s could be sent off.
3. I had to use various software's to create different parts to my magazine, as my front cover was produced on Adobe Photoshop. My DPS and contents page were both produced on Quark Xpress. Both these programmes were the most expensive used whilst creating my product. I found both these programmes very easy to use, this shows how easy it is for one person to create a magazine. I also had to keep a blog throughout my project as this stored a my work that I had completed. It also kept all my work together and in one place so it was a lot easier to access it and I wouldn’t lose it.
4. The roles I had to take on whilst making my magazine: Journalist - I had to take on the role of a journalist when I conducted an interview with an ex-member of ‘The Coral’ in order to create my DPS. After voice recording the whole interview, I then wrote it up on Microsoft Word before importing it onto Quark Xpress. Photographer- For this role, I had to take a number of photographs for my front cover to make sure it was the right look and feel for my genre of magazine so I was confident it would attract my target audience. This was probably my favourite task as I liked thinking of new idea’s and making them come to life. Sub-editor - I had to evaluate my work myself and then improve what I thought didn’t work. I enjoyed this role as I liked my work being perfected. Graphic Designer - This was also one of my favourite roles as I liked deciding what colours, images and text would work best and where. This made my whole project come together. Layout Sub-editor – For this role, I had to make sure my layout followed the codes and conventions. It also had to compliment my settings of text and images. Proof Reader – I didn’t really like this role as it was quite hard to spot little mistakes in the written work yourself. It was quite hard to get everything right. This whole project was called desktop publishing, this is a quick way of producing magazines and newspapers. I have now realised how easy it is for one person to make a magazine as desktop publishing makes this possible and you can meet deadlines quicker.
