Delibrate strategy
1. Strategy is a deliberate desire to be different. Deliberate strategy is parallel to strategic planning,
and a need of time for organizing performance. It focuses on minimizing external influence
effecting on business operations. However, unpredictable situations may take place in future and
that’s not possible to create a strategy for an unseen event.
Deliberateness in strategy is evident in three prescriptive schools of thought. Prescriptive
strategists consider that strategy must be well-planned. They do not mull over fluctuating
conditions into account.
The three perspective schools of thought including Design school emphasis on formulating
strategies by using SWOT analysis. This technique is constructive in stable environment since it
avoids innovation and external transformation. On the other hand planning school promotes
innovation and establishes objectives. But this can create clashes among managers because it is
based on instincts and managers have to check executed actions while implementing on Strategy.
Whereas, positioning school uses systematic framework for strategic decision-making. This
concept highly focuses on profit and avoids external elements.
In the meantime Descriptive managers acknowledge that the decision-making environment
should be flexible. For them, it’s better to be impulsive rather than sticking with a deliberate
plan. This strategy is followed by Entrepreneurial schools of thought, in which a visionary leader
formulates a flexible approach. The devised strategy depends on individual’s intuition, judgment,
experience, and complete insight into the process timely.
