15. Additional Comments:
This is a blank
version of the
questionnaire we
made for 20
people to fill in.
The questions are
mainly aimed at
the film trailer
itself, with the
exception of
three questions,
and the
additional
comments, that
look at the
ancillary tasks
and the
combination of
all three. We
asked a range of
questions that
allowed us to
analyse a variety
of different
aspects of our
products.

• As the results depict, the largest age group
that gave feedback on our film trailer and
ancillary tasks were 17 year olds. 13 of the
20 people that gave feedback were 17. This
is a good target audience as the film is
aimed at older teenagers. This is
represented by the film certificate rating of
15. We chose to have this certificate rating
due to the content of drug use and alcohol
use within the trailer, and thus the film
itself. Though the majority were 17 year
olds, four were 16 years old and three
were 18. Having this range of teenage ages
allows the trailer and ancillary tasks to be
critiqued by a range of people. This
suggests that the feedback will be varied
and provide diverse results and responses
on the products.

Male Female
• The gender of those who analysed
the film trailer and ancillary tasks
were mostly male, 14. Whereas, only
six were female. This may impact the
findings as males stereotypically have
different views to females when
watching films. As the specific target
audience for the film is older teenage
girls, the fact that the majority of
reviews were from boys, will
influence the results given.

• From asking the feedback group to
circle all of the genres they watch, the
results highlight that comedy is the
most watched genre, with action being
the second and romantic-comedy and
science-Fiction being the third most
watched (both having a 12% score).
Whereas, the least watched genre was
horror, with only 2% of the target group
saying they watch horror movies. Social
realism was second last having received
9% of the target group watching them.
Both drama and thriller came joint third
from last with receiving 10%. These
results indicate that not many people
watch social realism films. Only 9% of
the target group watch social realism
films which could possibly suggest that
they are unsure of what they contain
and this may reflect in the results.

• The target audience mostly gave the
enjoyment of the trailer a seven, 11
people gave it a seven. This is a good
score that suggests that the audience
liked the trailer. However, it does also
suggest that the film trailer could be
improved slightly. This could possibly
be by making the character profiles
clearer, maybe changing the pace of
the trailer or slightly adapting the
music. Also, some of the lower
reviews could imply that those who
watched it may not enjoy social
realism trailers normally so may not
like ours. However they may also
think that improvements could be
made; one review said ‘The trailer
was to slow.’ However, two people
gave an eight which suggests the film
trailer was successful.
7. Do you think that it fits the social realism
genre?

No
• All of the target audience review
group said that the film trailer fits the
social realism genre. Receiving a 100%
‘yes’ review on whether the film
trailer fits the genre highlights that,
when making the film trailer, we have
followed the codes and conventions of
social realism trailers to make ours.
With receiving no no’s on this
question suggests that the film trailer
fully fits the social realism genre from
the opinion of the target group that
reviewed the product.
8. Do you think the music mirrors the tone
of our trailer?

10%
Yes
No
• From reviewing the results for this
question, 90% of the feedback said
that the music did mirror the tone of
our trailer. This suggests that the
music we chose to use for the film
trailer suits the tone of the moving
images. However, the 10% that
disagreed could potentially think that
the music should have been different.
This could have been so a better
representation of characters and
narrative is created. Overall, the
audience that reviewed the film
trailer think the music mirrors the
tone of the trailer. This means that
we successfully linked the music with
the visual moving images on screen.
9. Do you think the music transition from
the first piece to the second is smooth?

• From reviewing the results, the
feedback states that the music
transition was not as smooth as it
could have been, though one
comment did state that ‘It wasn’t bad
though, created tension.’ However,
35% did say that the music transition
from the first to the second piece was
smooth, with one individual stating ‘I
didn’t even notice,’ meaning the
change was smooth and worked well.
Though, only five percent thought it
was only slightly smooth. So from
these results it is clear that the
transition could have been smother.
When editing we did try to smoothly
transition the two pieces; however, it
shows that there still needs to be
changes made to make it smoother.
10. Do you think the narrative is clearly conveyed
and understood through the trailer?

• From the results of this question, it has been
clearly highlighted that the majority of
results were for ‘yes’ the narrative is clearly
conveyed and understood in the trailer. Even
though there are plot twists that are not
shown in the trailer, such as what happens
after the noise of the car horn, we chose not
to include these in the trailer as it would lead
to confusion. As 14% said that the narrative
wasn’t clearly conveyed and understood
through the trailer and 5% said ‘soft of,’ not
including any part of the ending of what
actually happened was a good idea as it
would have confused it further. However, a
comment from an individual that said ‘no’
was ‘but not necessarily a bad thing for a
trailer,’ which suggests that the film trailer
was understood. From the results its clear to
see that the narrative was clearly conveyed
and understood by the audience that
watched it.
11. Do you feel that too much of the story is
given away in the trailer?
55%
45% Yes
No
• As the results show, the percentages
are very close which suggests that
there was a split view to whether or
not too much of the story is given
away in the trailer. As shown, 55%
said ‘yes’ to the fact it did give away
too much and 45% said that it didn’t.
As this is so close, it is difficult to see
whether or not it really did give too
much away; but, as the majority said
it did then maybe certain areas could
have be changed to prevent this. For
example, we could have possibly
included less of the protagonist
shown with her new friends, this is so
more interest and questions are
created about what leads her up to
the end (when she steps out in front
of the car).
12. Do you feel that the characters were well
represented?
75%
25%
Yes
No
• As the results highlight, 75% of the audience
that watched the film trailer thought the
characters were well represented. This
means that the narrative is supported by the
characteristics of the character profiles we
created and wanted to portray. However,
25% did say that they weren't well
represented. This could be down to what
they were wearing, the props they had or
how their characteristics were portrayed.
Although only being a small percentage that
thought the characters weren't represented
well, these were the views of a group that
could be mirrored by a larger audience and
means that we may need to change how the
characters are represented. However, as the
majority thought the characters were well
represented, this highlights that the trailer
portrayed the theme’s of the genre well.
13. Do you feel that the props and locations
helped you to get a better understanding of
the narrative?
100%
0%
Yes
No
• As shown, 100% of the target audience
who watched the film trailer said that the
props and locations helped them to have a
better understanding of the narrative. This
means that the props we used enhance
the character representations and thus
the narrative of the film. The location was
also said to enhance the narrative. Though
a target audience member said ‘The field
felt random,’ which is understandable
from the trailer, it may not have been
clear that the protagonist has a rich step
father and so they live in a wealthy area
near the countryside, but in the film this
would be made clear. However, the fact
that the fields were consistent throughout
the trailer highlights that the location is
constant and the main setting for the film.
14. Do you think the film poster is engaging and
would make you want to go and see the film?
100%
0%
Yes
No
• For my film poster, the audience review
gave 100% to ‘yes’ the film poster is
engaging. This highlights that the film
poster was effective in attracting the
audiences attention and would make
them go and see the film. Though there
weren’t any negative ‘no’ results, I have
only received feedback from a collective
group and others may have thought it
wasn’t engaging and wouldn’t go and see
the film. However, as the results show, the
target audience did think the poster was
engaging and therefore highlights that the
poster is successful.
15. Do you think the magazine cover is engaging
and would make you want to buy the
magazine?
70%
30%
Yes
No
• As the results show, 70% of the target
audience thought the magazine cover was
engaging and would make them want to
buy the magazine. Whereas, only 30%, six
people, said that the magazine wasn’t
engaging and they effectively wouldn’t
buy the magazine. Some of the feedback
said ‘Magazine cover didn’t show the
nature of the film.’ Also, ‘Maybe make the
magazines more film based? I got a bit
confused – change the clothes or
something?’ These both suggest that I
should make the magazine cover link
more with the film trailer. However, I
followed the codes and conventions of a
magazine cover, to create it, which is
shown by the fact that 70% thought the
magazine cover was engaging and that
they would buy it.
16. Do you think that the trailer, magazine cover
and poster all work together well as a
marketing campaign for our film?
100%
0%
Yes
No
• The results for this question highlight that
100% of the target market thought that
the three products: the film trailer, film
poster and magazine cover, all worked
well together. As 0% said that the three
pieces didn’t work well together, it
highlights that they complement one
another and all work together, as a
marketing campaign, to promote the film.
17. • From the questionnaire results it is clear that the three products work well together
and the majority of the questions were answered in favour of what was being asked.
Other comments that were given were ‘Trailer could have had some hand held
camera shots,’ ‘Small pockets of wind (probably hard to avoid though),’ ‘The sound
needs to improve,’ and ‘Very good narrative though the ending did suggest the
ending.’ These comments highlight changes that could be made to improve the trailer.
However, I feel that having hand held camera shots would not suit the social realism
genre and would be more suited to the genre of horror. Although a comment was
made abut the wind, we did try to edit it out by changing the volume of the
background noise and volume of the voices, yet change is still needed, as shown, to
try reduce and remove the wind completely. Although another comment said
‘Magazine cover slightly generic,’ this may be because the codes and conventions
were followed meaning that it looked similar to existing magazine covers. I think the
majority of the feedback was positive which suggests that the film trailer, film poster
and magazine cover all work well together to help promote the film. This also
highlights that each individual piece engages the audience and promotes the film.
With this, it highlights that the promotional material is successful and that the
audience feedback highlights this.
