Procedure • Assist the client to left lateral or sims lateral position with upper leg flexed • Fold back the top clothes to expose buttocks • Put a glove on hand used to insert suppository • Lubricate the gloved index finger • Encourage the client to relax by breathing through the mouth ( relaxes the external anal sphincter) 5 Mrs . Cont… Vaginal irrigations • place the client on bed pan • Hold the irrigating container about 30 cm above vagina • Run fluid through the tubing and nozzle to remove air • Insert the nozzle carefully into vagina and start the flow and rotate nozzle several times • Remove the nozzle , assist the client to a sitting position on bed pan • Document 18 Mrs .
