“When you will go out to war against your enemies, and
Hashem your G-d will deliver him into your hand, and you will
capture its captives”
In this Posuk, Hashem is giving an assurance of victory in
war against the enemy, to the extent that we will even have
captives. But seemingly, the Posuk should have said “and you
shall capture them”, instead of “you shall capture its captives?”
The Posuk seems to imply that they are captives even before
they are captured! Indeed, Rashi comments that this is coming
who are held captive by another nation כנענים to to teach us that
are not included in the mitzvah of “Lo Techaye Kol Neshama”.
However, this Posuk is also alluding to the battles of Moshiach,
whom the Rambam says will “fight the wars of HaShem.” It is
in this war specifically that Moshiach will “capture its captives.”
The nations have pursued the Yidden throughout the times,
plundering the Yidden valuables at every opportunity. They
have also plundered the most precious object of the Yidden, the
Beis Hamikdosh, not once, but twice! At the end of Moshiach’s
battles, Moshiach will “capture its captives”, restoring that
which has been held captive by the nations, culminating in the
rebuilding of the Beis Hamikdosh. The Posuk then tells us that
redemption will come through Teshuva; “and she shall mourn
. . a month of days.”
Then will be the Nissuin of Hashem and the Yidden, as the
Posuk concludes, “and she shall be to you as a wife.”

In the Sicha of Shabbos Parshas Tetzei 5748 the Manichim
wrote: “However, since the announcement of ‘L'alter L'tshuva
L'alter L'geulo’ and the Shturem (launched by the Frierdiker
Rebbe) to bring Moshiach, decades have passed and our
righteous Moshiach has still not come . . .
And there is no explanation for this: our Sages said ‘Kolu Kol
Hakitzin (all predestined dates (for the coming of Moshiach)
have passed)’”.
Here the Rebbe added in his own handwriting “and the leader
of our generation announced in his Kol Koreh ‘(there will be)
immediate Geulah’”.
Right before R’ Levik – the Rebbe’s father - passed
away, R’ Hershel Rabinowitz stood next to him
and saw his lips saying something, but all he heard
were fragmented sentences accompanied by deep,
anguished sighing: "Oy I'kvosecho Lo Noidu (his
footsteps are not known) (Tehillim Kappitel 77) . .
Oy, Ikvisa D'meshicha.

Have you ever run around the entire world searching for something only to find that it was exactly in the place you
started your search, and right under your nose. Sounds familiar.
In their efforts to usher in the final and complete Geulah, Yidden have tried out almost every tactic there is out there that
could possibly do the job, all to no avail. We have certainly advanced and made major strides towards our goal, but the home run
proves more difficult than all, and with this we grapple now.
Ironically, the only means that no one ever thought of implementing is the most obvious of all: If the time of Moshiach will be a
time of happiness and pure joy (as stated explicitly in Tehilim “then our mouth will be filled with laughter and our tongue with songs
of joy”), isn’t the most obvious way to bring him by acting in a joyous way as preparation for the imminent time of joy.
The probable reason for this that Yidden overlooked this idea, is that in all that transpires in this dark and rough exile, the last thing
that’s on the mind of a Yid is - joy, how can one be happy when wherever he turns another tragedy meets his eyes?
In the month of Elul 5748, starting from the Sicha said on Parshas Teitzei, the Rebbe stressed very much the importance of joy
in all areas of a Yid’s life. In this Sicha the Rebbe suggests that it is about time Yidden actually start to implement this tool to bring
Moshiach, happiness for the sake of happiness!
This may have proven difficult in previous generations, in our times, however, the job is very much easier, for we have been
promised that the exile is around the corner no longer, it is on our doorstep. This can be the source of unlimited joy for a Yid in
these last moments of exile.

On Simchas Torah 5724 after the Rebbe finished
teaching the Nigun Hu Elokeinu, the Rebbe turned to R’
Reuven Dunin and asked him to sing the Nigun.
R’ Reuven told the Rebbe that he doesn't know the tune so
well yet.
The Rebbe replied: In this Nigun the melody is not so
important, what is important are the words which show our
strong belief in the coming of Moshiach!
