1. How effective is the combination of
your main product and your
ancillary texts?
2. My music video, CD Digipak and music magazine
advertisement all link together in a way that makes them
look professional rather than an amateur creation.
The link is, Water. This is because my chosen song is
called “Dissolve me” and so I decided to film most of the
music video by the sea and use a lot of water shots in it.
This gives the music video a certain edge to it that you
would rarely see in media products today, it has more of
an artistic flair to it which is enhanced by my use of
colour correction and contrast/brightness changing,
which gave it the appearance of a professional video,
3. I focused on the use of depth in my video so the
shots of the sea would be more interesting to
view, The key shots that I wanted to stand out
were; my opening shot, which I think I achieved
by having a stable large open shot which holds
the screen for approximately 10 seconds then
fades into the video, And a shot of the tide
washing out, which to me looks similar to
artwork from alt-J themselves.
4. These two shots were used on my CD Digipak so that they
would effectively link together, this would also create an
association for the viewer that they would be able to
view the video, and easily be able to find the album too.
My opening shot was complimented on for its cinematic
look which I achieved simply by waiting for the perfect
natural lighting and then enhancing the contrast in
Premiere Pro afterwards, It is good to have an
establishing shot at the beginning as it makes the viewer
aware of what could possibly happen and from my
opening shot I feel the audience know that it has
connections with the sea
5. My magazine advertisement
uses the tide flowing out shot
as I feel that this shot looks
similar to their other Alt-J
posters and so I feel that this
type of association would be a
good way to promote them. I
feel that the combinations of
my media products is very
effective as they all look like
they link to sea, which they do,
which also links to the chosen
song and so there is a
maintained sense of continuity
throughout.
