2. Introduction
• We are creating a 2 minute opening of a thriller for our Media
studies project, which will allow us to have a better understanding of
the film world and especially the thriller genre. Our story consists of
many traditional thriller elements, including mystery and a murder,
and sound is also an important part of the film, as it engages and
draws the audience in, and helps them feel the emotions that the
characters are feeling.
• At one point in our opening, the main character is left shell-shocked
after the brutal murder of his innocent young daughter, and he is
shown cradling her in his arms, crying and mourning over her loss.
This is obviously an emotional and engaging moment within our
film, and we would like to select an appropriate piece of music that
would mirror the emotions the character is feeling so that the
audience have a better understanding of the pain and loss he is going
through.
3. Question
• Therefore, every member of our group had personally reached a piece of music they knew
about and felt that it would be appropriate to fit the mood and tone of this sequence.
However, as we would like to carry out as much research as possible into our target audience,
we decided that we would ask a group of people who fit into this category what their opinion
would be on these various songs, and whether or not they thought that they would work well
with our vision for the film. The pieces of music are as follows:
Red Like Roses RWBY by
Jeff Williams:
Mirror Mirror by Jeff Williams:

7. Conclusion
• In conclusion, the results show that 40% of the 20 people we
asked chose “Mirror Mirror by Jeff Williams” as the piece ot
fit the scene. Using this information we will take into
consideration what the audience would want to see. This will
help us connect with the audience as it is them we’re trying to
create a piece that they would like to view.
• 10% concluded they think “Read like roses RWBY by Jeff
Williams” was their favourite piece, 15% concluded “Another
side another story”, 30% said “I choose you” and finally 5%
said “Lily’s theme” would fit the part.
• This will all be taken into consideration upon choosing the
music for this scene; they may also be used in other scenes.
