2. AGE
We believe that our target audience’s age would be in the 16-19 range (early
20s at push) as The Weeknd’s fans are mostly around those ages.
GENDER
In general, all genders are known to listen to our artist so we decided to stay
on that route as he writes songs that are relatable to most young adults.
Everyone in our group likes his music and we have equal male and females
so this also backed up our theory. We’ve chosen the song ‘Real Life’ which
is a story about a guy who breaks hearts wherever he goes and doesn’t
find true love so we think all genders could relate to either being the
singer or his ‘victims’ who just get messed around.
3. SOCIAL DEMOGRAPHIC &
OCCUPATION
Due to the factors previously mentioned, we’ve decided that our TM would
be primarily in A, B, C1 and D demographic groups. Assuming our TM will
be still in some form of education, wherever that be school, college or uni,
they’d most likely be still living with their parents, making them fall under
their parents social demographic group. They most likely would also not
have a full time job.
4. Our TM would enjoy spending time with their
friends but also be confident enough to be
happy alone. Other hobbies would include
going to the cinema, shopping, parties,
concerts as well as watching TV and listening
to music. They would be known for being
mildly stylish individuals, taking an interest in
fashion and music together. The Weeknd’s
music videos are seen to be influenced
heavily by fashion, perhaps due to his model
girlfriend Bella Hadid, which would also
reflect on the fan.

5. MEDIA GROUPING
We believe that there wont be just one genre of film or TV show
that our TM enjoys; they will like many, including romance,
horror, comedy and drama.
The genre of music they listen to is known as ‘Alternative R&B’
but the TM will enjoy music not by genre but simply if they
like it, including pop and kinds of rap. Other artists they would
listen to are Drake, Hozier and Ed Sheeran.
6. USERS & GRATIFICATION
The Weeknd are known for being relatable for young adults,
which is one of their highest selling points. The lyrics are very
intricately crafted and it’s obvious that Abel has been through
what he’s singing about and that the song means something
to him personally. Our group believes that the TM would
listen to the song because they like the rest of their music but
also if they were going through a situation similar to the one
he’s singing about.
7. UTOPIAN
We’ve chosen our video to not be utopian as we want it
to be as realistic as possible and to tell an honest
story. Our story is to be as realistic as possible and
clear so that the audience understand exactly what
we’re trying to say. It’ll help them because they will
know that they’re not the only one in the world
going through their problem; it’ll help them feel less
alone.
