The document describes an experiment conducted to create an introductory podcast promoting a discussion of people's breakfast habits. The experiment involved writing a script, recording it in a studio with two people, and editing the recording. Background rain sounds were added during editing to create a "rainforest breakfast feel." Based on the reflection, elements the creator intends to incorporate into the final podcast include recording using the same high-quality microphone in a studio setting and adding atmospheric sounds during editing. Music from Star Wars and Star Trek will also be included to complement discussion of those topics, differing from the experiment which did not use music.
2. Script
• To start with I will introduce myself and the other people in the podcast with me as we discuss the breakfast on a morning what people eat for
breakfast and which people don’t eat any breakfast .
• Luke: hello I'm Luke, this is Tahmid on my left and Jack on my right. Today we will be discussing peoples breakfast habits and weather or not people
do or do not have breakfast. So Tahmid what do you think?
• Tahmid: well first of all having a breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day.
• Luke: I would have to disagree with you there I mean, surly not all breakfasts are proper meals for instance some people have cereal bars others have
full English breakfast.
• Jack: I personally have cereal would that class
3. Process
When I was making the product experiment I made it by coming up with as script that I
could use, I wanted a script that made it sound like a promo advertisement for a radio
podcast so I added in a outro a date to watch the full podcast if it came out. When I
made the script I first thought of what type of ideas I could include about breakfast and
came up with the idea about what people eat and if it classes as a real breakfast or not
so I wanted to advertise that in my podcast promo. I used the studio set up to record
me and someone else say the script after practising a few times, when I pressed record
we was ready to make the promo. I started off with the opening saying welcome and
introducing the other person on the podcast followed by sharing information about the
podcast that will be in it when the full thing would be on. The reason for this was to
give insight into the podcast. When I recorded all of the podcast I used a microphone
and computer with adobe audition so that it was good quality and easy to hear and
sounded professional I think that this worked well, when I was finished I stopped the
record and saved it as a wav file so that I could add it into a multi track mix down so I
could add other sound affects to it including music as well as cut out mistakes that was
made in the podcast and smooth it out a bit. I did this by cutting out pauses in within
the original material making it smoother and easier flowing as well as mistakes in
wording. Originally the script changed from the original plan to something new when I
got into the studio to record I changed my mind about certain things and wanted to
adjust it to make it sound more professional. When I edited the podcast on the
software I wanted to add different variety of sounds to do with habitat and rain so I
decided to add a rain dropping background to the podcast so that it was a rain forest
breakfast feel, I thought that this would make the podcast more interesting and better
to listen to than plain with no sound. I did this by getting royalty free music and adding
it into the podcast so that it played/ started at a specific part of the podcast rather than
all the way through it, I thought of adding a jingle but I decided that it didn’t have the
same affect and didn’t go with the rain affect I feel that it was to much to have a jingle.
I also thought of adding in some music to back it up but after I put some music into it I
thought it was also adding to much to it and didn’t work going all the way through it
and didn’t have a relaxing feel to the conversation. When I was happy with the podcast
that I had edited I decided that I was done editing it and I saved the finished pod cats
and exported the experiment.
4. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in your final product?
In my experiment there are certain things that I feel that I could include and some that I do not want to include, in my final
podcast I do not want to make it into a promo for a full one I want to cover as much as I can in 5 minutes to make it into a podcast
with information in it about sci fi. As for the terms of how it was recorded I would like it to be recorded in the same, I liked to use
the microphone that I used in the experiment and I feel that is recorded in good quality and that it would work well in the studio
with my final product. The idea of having the studio makes it feel very professional as well which creates a nice atmosphere and
makes it feel more professional as well. I would include a atmospheric sound in the background of it as I believe that it create a
nice feeling to it while listening to it, although in my final podcast I would change the sound in the background so that it wouldn’t
be rain drops instead it would probably be something else like something to do with sci fi, like the sound of an empty void or
maybe something else. Unlike the experiment however I did not want to include music in the experiment however in the final
podcast I intend to include different music. In my final product I will include the star wars theme as well as other star wars songs
such as battle of heroes and duel of the fates, I will include these when I am discussing star wars in the podcast with possibly a
space sound affect in the background this I believe will work well with the podcast and I different from the experiment as it would
contain more music. Another track that I would include in the podcast is the star trek theme from the new movies as I believe that
would fit in well with the podcast when I am discussing star trek, this is different to the experiment as the experiment did not
contain any music sound track.
