Production Reflection
Luke Ross
Process
• To start with for the production I made a script so that me and
the people that I include in my podcast can have something to
read off as well as the fact that it helps me o prepare for the
actual podcast, I spent time coming up with exactly what I
could say in the podcast in the time that I had. The podcast
had to between 2-5 minutes which meant that I would not be
able to include all of the information and plans that I originally
had for the podcast in the beginning. I feel disappointed that I
did not get to include all of the information that I wanted to
include on the podcast, for example I intended to include
information about he history of sci fi and where sci fi started
from although I was able to fit a little of that in I was not
happy with the amount as I needed to include much more
information about the sci fi genre. Over all I think that the
script works. I intended over all to include a debate type
podcast and I think that it sounds better if it’s a genuine
conversation instead of scripted as it sounds more interesting
and makes the conversation seem a lot more legitimate and
interesting to listen rather than something that sounds forced
and not fluent and a bit plastic. Overall I believe that the script
will come in handy as it gives me basis to go off and use when
recording my final project podcast I am able to practice how I
will start it. I thought that I would do the entire recording in
one take this way I think that the outcome would me more
entertaining and wont sound forced and practiced.
Process
• After I made the script me and the people that I was recording
the podcast with originally intended to book the studio
however the studio was not available at the time that we
needed it so instead we booked out a audio recorder and used
it like a microphone. I practiced the opening welcome line as I
opened into the podcast and the organised a plan of how to
record two other people, I decided to pass the microphone to
the different people that wanted to speak like a interview this
way each person would get to speak and when they wanted to
they would give me a signal to put the microphone near them
this way I make sure that everybody in the podcast Is heard
well. I recorded the entire podcast in one take the reason for
this was so that it didn’t seem forced and sounded more
fluent. When I recorded it I listened to it back and got thinking
about what I could include in my podcast song wise and sound
affect wise so that I am able to tell exactly what I want to
include before hand. When recording the podcast I made sure
that it was organised and on the script I wrote when I wanted
to start a new topic and how to get them to debate and I
would hopefully fit it all into a podcast, I made sure that only
certain amount of time was spent on each of the three main
topics this way it wasn’t longer than 5 minutes and was longer
than 2 minutes. I think that timing wise I did a good job of
keeping track of when each new topic started. I feel that the
recording went well and I included the topics I intended for
my script.
Process
• When I had finished recording my podcast I uploaded it to my
pen drive memory stick and then put it into adobe audition so
that I could edit it. I started by only listening to the main audio
of the podcast before adding different things. I listened
through it and found pauses and some mistakes in wording as
well as pauses that I had to cut out. The reason for this was to
smooth out the podcast and make it more fluent rather then
pauses and errors, I kept some pauses in so that It made it
seem like thinking time. For the error in wording or places
where I repeated myself I decided to leave some of the errors
in to make it look like it is a genuine podcast and not
completely cut and also make it seem more professional
standard. I think that overall the audio editing was good and it
meant that I was able to look through the podcast decide as a
editor which arts should be removed and which should be
kept in. also helped me to improve my skills on editing sound
and on adobe audition as a program in general. I think
however that if I could go back I would maybe sort out some
of the parts where things where making I more smooth going
back through where was cut and editing it further however I
did not have much time on making the final podcast and had
to rush the raw material editing.
Process
• When I had finished making and editing the original podcast
audio I added it to a multi track where I would be able to edit
the podcast further as well as add in sound affects and music. I
started off by finding royalty free music. This was a difficult
process as I had to find some royalty free music that in with
the podcast and made it sound interesting rather than
pointless and not necessary. I looked at different tracks the
fourth track that I looked at I thought might work well with my
podcast but after I added the track in and changed the volume
level on it so that it was more silent than the podcast this
worked well at first but after listening back to it realised that it
just didn’t sound right. I felt like I didn’t fit the podcast as I
would of liked it to, I ended up removing it and looking for
more and eventually I found a royalty free track that fit in well
with the podcast as all three things that I needed it for. I first
cut the audio so that there was a break between the welcome
introduction and the explanation or the podcast. In this I put
the intro which was part of the track a louder beginning clip of
it. After I made this I decided to add the rest of the track in
very quietly in the background throughout the podcast as well
as getting it to overlay at some points to add a better beat to
it. I also used the intro song as the outro to keep it the same
and repetitive throughout the 5 minutes podcast. I feel that
this worked well and brought a good take and background on
the podcast. I think that maybe some improvements could be
made in the way the audio shapes the podcast but overall I
would say that it has worked well.
Process
• File export multi track mix down. Wav file.
• To export this work after I had completed it I went onto the
file options and then moved my mouse down to export and
after I went to export I went to multitrack mix down. I then
made it into a wav file and the reason that it’s a wav file is
because it’s a good file to use for listening to and the most
reliable if its another file such as mp3 or mp4 its difficult to
play which is why its wav.
