Kieran Crook produced a piece on the history and future of Tombstone, Arizona. Several evaluators provided feedback on Kieran's work. 2. Research
• My research helped me a lot with this project by showing me how
others in the professional circle do it and with this way of doing it. I
know what I am doing with the production side of things as I have
done stuff like this for years. I have been able to do this at a level
which I thought was high but you can always learn from people who
do this at a higher level for longer than what I have and on a
consistent level.

3. Final concept
• My final concept is on the history and future of Tombstone, Arizona. I
have chosen this because I enjoy the concept and it intrigues me. I
also think it is interesting enough to show to others and explain what
my views are on the place and where I think it is going. I was inspired
by BuzzFeed Unsolved to do this and the film, TombStone.

4. Planning
• My planning helped me a lot through this as it made sure I could keep
on track with my plans and what I was aiming to achieve. It also
helped me a lot with when I was stuck and struggling of things to
think and write about due to me losing track of somethings.

5. Production
• Production did not go as well as I would have hoped due to it taking a
lot longer due to studio booking and also I was struggling with writing
and re-drafting my script, I also had some issues with repeating my
script, I do not know why I struggled with it as I have never had this
issue before but it happened during the recording session for this
project.

6. Post Production
• This went well compared to the production section and I enjoyed it a
bit more but that is because I am more comfortable with this sort of
section but at the same time I did struggle a bit as I do not do as
much video editing. But I found it easier than what I should due to me
using other peoples music rather than my own, this made it quicker
due to render and creative time.

7. Technical Problem
• I did not struggle with technical problems and everything went as well
as it should have but I am lucky as a technical problem would have
messed up my whole routine but lucky, I have not had this problem.

8. Management Problems
• I haven’t had any problems with this as I have had only myself to deal
with rather than others that I have been able to sort out everything
by myself.

9. Emotional Problems
• I did suffer with some emotional problems during all of this but at the
end of the day, it did not mess with how I worked with this
production. I was depressed.

10. Expectations and Reality of proposal
• I worked well with my proposal and even out did it with the work
ethic I brought to this project, I did change somethings up with how I
worked by making things easier for myself with the recording and
production section but apart from that, I stuck to it well.

11. Evaluation 1
• Kathryn Crook – The piece was filled with positives and negatives, the production itself
seemed a little rushed and unedited however there was a certain sense of the piece
being enjoyable for being raw and a little choppy along with the general feel of the piece
being enjoyable from the perspective of somebody who knows next to nothing about
American history never mind the specific history of a small town in Arizona the piece was
easy to understand and laid everything out for the novices of American history and the
gold rush phenomenon, the piece itself had plenty to like and a few bits to dislike some
of those being the rushed feel of the piece I don’t feel like it was necessarily done to the
best of Kierans ability, I also feel like the piece maybe didn’t have the most care taken in
the script writing element of the piece itself whilst I haven’t seen the scripts it does feel a
little bit off script sometimes with how the piece is shown to the audience

12. Evaluation 2
• Laura Rouse – The piece itself was interesting and well presented I feel like Kieran
probably hit the targets he was expecting to with the piece in regards to what he wanted
to create, there was a slight feeling of rushed editing or maybe a little bit of a raw
production in the end but nothing too major in the long run of things it was a nice story
and an educational piece above everything for someone who knows not even the first
thing about the history of the Wild West this means that for the listeners the
presentation will be ideal for people who don’t know what he is talking about to begin
with I can’t speak from the side of someone who knows what he is saying but for the
people unfamiliar with the story and the history it’s a good piece to teach them and for
people to learn a thing or two.

13. Evaluation 3
• Amylia Crook – The production was okay it seemed well presented and worked for
educating the audience who may not know what he is talking about in the beginning of
the piece however, the piece doesn’t do justice on setting the context of the area and
the history it’s all well and good to have a brief explanation on how Tombstone came
about but with no excess information the piece loses something for me not everyone is
educated on the gold rush and it’s significance to American history which cannot be
understated by anyone for the English population which is ofcourse where this
production is actually aimed at the gold rush and the American history side of it will not
be common knowledge I feel like for this reason the production did actually lose
something for this, not to take away from the storytelling that the piece did do because it
did it very well but in the end with no context it could be difficult

14. Evaluation 4
• Nathan Kavanagh – In the piece Kieran presented the story of Tombstone very well I’m
not sure whether it is factual or fictional still as the piece never actually confirms this,
some of the stories ofcourse sounding slightly make believe at times however the piece
does seem to do what it aimed to do to a good enough standard it explains the story of
tombstone and how a bunch of bad people made a lot of good money and spent it all on
entertainment for themselves which at the end of the day does seem to be the general
aspect of life as a cowboy American but that’s besides the point, the piece came out in
the end slightly raw Kieran says it’s a slight “mixing” issue whatever that may mean but I
think he’s just unhappy it rendered poorly the music choice fits well with the theme and
the various effects work with the piece especially since as Kieran mentioned they are
royalty free, the piece was good.

15. Evaluation 5
• Cameron Little – The piece taught me a lot about the area and the history of the specific
town in question it didn’t teach me a whole lot about why that happened or infact why
this situation even came about other than the short mention of the guy at the start who
made this place and gave it its name there isn’t a lot of context in the piece obviously it
might not be needed in this situation as telling a story about the specific area may not
need the full on text of the American Wild West but coming form someone who doesn’t
know anything about it, it can be harder to understand from my point of view in this case
however the piece does a good job on teaching me about the area, about all its personal
history and it’s future the almost collapse how it survived becoming a boom town and
then surging two world wars and still being in operation today it’s a phenomenal story no
matter how much is founded in pure facts it’s an interesting story presented in an
interesting way

16. Evaluation 6
• Dan Sterling – The piece was enjoyable to listen to and taught me a whole bunch about
Tombstone whilst it’s information I never thought I would need to know it’s an
interesting piece all the same, the piece has its good parts and it’s bad parts starting with
the mixing seems to be a little off between the music and the volume this could be
thanks to a highly differing volume level to what Kieran recorded his voice at and to what
the piece of music was produced on this difference is ofcourse not massively noticeable
unless your wearing a pair of top of the range earphones as the sound quality is good
enough to make it through the piece without this cropping up, the piece itself also seems
well presented giving the backstory to why the town exists the moment that made it
historic and then the moment that the town almost collapsed etc etc the piece overall is
good fun to listen to I think the effects were also a nice touch to the piece.
