2. Research Evaluation
• I researched a fair amount for this project especially the forecast of relevance for podcasts
themselves and also the importance of their gain in the entertainment sector itself. This research
was conducted by various companies and pieced together from multiple different reference
points themselves, I think I could have done some better research personally maybe researching
more into depth about the rise of the genre in depth a little bit more than I did I sketched over
how long the promotion of the genre itself to take off as quick as it did I also skipped over the
founders of the genre itself and the innovators.
• I also could have explored the contributing audiences and certain studies such as ”Older people
find podcasts much more satisfying than music and radio shows” if I could have involved more
factual studies with my piece and the research itself basing conclusions of these theories and
studies wold have created a better piece in general for me to submit as work
3. Research Evaluation Continued…
• The research I conducted on the audience was in depth thanks to the statistical analysis of
podcasts conducted over the last few years this gave me a huge market of statistics to analyse and
compare between each other this makes the research a whole chunk easy and definitely was
something I am grateful to be able to have at my disposal. The listener data was the most
important that I had to analyse and It was also the research that was the most important for me.
• The research could have been better analysed by me individually the detail I went into on the
viewer/listener data was not as in depth as maybe it should have been or maybe as much as I had
wanted it to this was definitely possible due to the pure wealth of data I had available but again I
just struggled to incorporate this into the research itself cause its all well and good having the
data but if you cant analyse it properly then the data is essentially useless.
4. Experiments Evaluation
• The experiments that I did were very basic due to the projects nature of it being an audio piece
there is only so much that you can do to a piece of voice as oppose to that of film and editing
something such as the use of After effects and premiere both programs allow you to do video and
so much more in depth but the honest truth of an audio project is that it is a much lesser in depth
project.
• The experiments research could have been extended to using sound bytes and evidence of the
use of each method however recording or capturing sound bytes can become a difficult challenge
with no access to capture software such as Streamlabs or OBS, however it is likely possible by
exporting each experiment as an individual .Mp4 file this was a possibility however I didn't want
to individually render multiple pieces when simply capturing each experiment and demonstrating
how I was doing the specific experiment.
5. Development & Planning Evaluation
• In development & planning the project was In its early phases the mood board was indicative of
the style and the reference point for my piece of content I don’t think it could have been explored
much further, the mood board analysis was somewhere where I think improvements could have
definitely been made to it as I don’t think that the initial analysis of the mood board was backed
by any substantially factual statements it was very much analysis of the style I wanted to attempt
to replicate whilst doing this project the reference points of Joe Budden and Adam22 were heavy
influences on how I wanted this podcast to turn out eventually
• I think the overall script writing part of the project is probably the hardest to get perfect or as
close to that as possible and I definitely found this to be the case the fact of the matter is that
podcast are very hard to script for because very often is based on other peoples direct response
to who and what the narrator is asking the people on the show very much unlike a Film which
would require a script being written and outlined as set in stone how the cast are required to act
during the piece obviously a podcast is the polar opposite of this case.
6. Development & Planning Evaluation Continued…
• The research that went into the development & planning was substantial in comparison to other
departments of the project itself as the amount that had to be factual and pinpoint correct was
far greater than a couple of the other Factual studies other than that of the audience research I
feel this was the one were the most preparation and pure fact based assessment went into.
• The analysis of the content I planned to incorporate was a fair chunk of the development &
planning itself therefore I had to attempt to make it interesting to read but also interesting to
write which it was being able to freely detail the relationship between myself and Iann and also
my relationship with Tracy and detailing how that would assist in this project specifically was a fun
experience being able to communicate between both Iann & Tracy was refreshing to how often
people in higher economic status I guess very rarely do things for no money whilst I know this as
the case with Tracy I'm not familiar enough with Iann to make this judgement.
7. Audience Research Evaluation
• In my audience research I felt like the research had to be as statistically based as possible due to
purely how much research has gone into the genre as of recent years this has been very well
documented and tracked by many stat companies and the ease of access to these pieces of work
are common place because of this I felt it was necessary to continue down the path of statistical
analysis rather than an audience analysis therefore creating the audience rather than presuming
it based on some ”facts” from the internet the ability to research the most listened to topics,
creators and at what age ranges was a huge tool in creating this piece.
• The piece itself also featured the statistical and financial data of podcast creators over the last
few years with people like Joe Rogan's name coming up as often as possible in the conversation
his multi-year massive exclusivity contract was a huge jump for podcasts themselves as a genre
and being able to explore the expected rise of the genre without and with Rogan’s huge contract
is a mind blowing chart to look at.
8. Final Piece Evaluation
• The final piece was a disappointment based on how much time and effort went into the research
and having to basically go with a contingency plan (this was due to a very untimely court case
meaning Tracy had to reschedule a lot of speak shows) after this news broke Iann and I discussed
the possibility of doing the podcast just between each other but settled on the piece being a
waste without Tracy therefore the original planning was put on hold whilst a contingency plan
was worked on and created which obviously resulted in the final piece after all this isn't ideal for a
number of reasons one of the most major of which being that the planning was all put into this
project going to plan and then obviously when that sadly failed to go through the contingency
plan didn't follow the planning of the original.
• In the end of the project the piece wasn’t a disaster as making good of a bad situation can only go
so well at the end of the day the editing process was still extremely similar to that of if it was wit
Iann and Tracy this is a major reason why the contingency may not have been that bad.
9. Final Piece Evaluation Continued...
• The final piece itself after all the spanners in the works was an “OKAY” production to do the
logistics of the project itself was not a problem, eventually once the contingency plan got kicked
into motion the projects creation and editing process became seamless which was great for me
the stress on the workload from this was fairly low as far as I'm concerned this meant that the
projects final process was an enjoyable process which is massive in any piece as if something no
longer feels like a chore to have to do then the experience of working on it becomes a lot more
enjoyable.
• This being said the content of the piece itself was something I had pander over for a fair while
due to the discussion topic having to be something as enthralling as possible in the 3 minutes I
was given. The content topic was eventually settled on ”the influence of internet stars and
whether this excessive fame is a positive or negative” this discussion is some thing I knew I could
talk about for a fair amount of time without hesitation or anything like that and this is the same
case for the people I did the project with therefore this being the right choice in the end.
