1. WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION
MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT AND WHY?
EVALUATION QUESTION THREE PART TWO.
2. THE HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTION I’VE CHOSEN TO MAKE MY FILM
I have chosen film Phase 4 Films to distribute our opening sequence. Phase 4 Films
distributed the film Eden which we believe has similarities to our short sequence.
Phase 4 Films is based in Toronto, originally called Telegenic. It is a family-oriented
distribution company founded in 1996. It was bought by Berry Meyerowitz and renamed
it Kaboom! Enterainment. It was bought by ContentFilm and then Berry founded Phase 4
Films in 2009 when he bought back their distribution company.
In 2013 Phase 4 Films had a Lawsuit again Disney’s for mimicing their logo and calling
their upcoming Frozen Land and Disney had been released around the same time. Phase
4 Films changed the film name back to The Legend of Sarila.
3. WHY WOULD YOUR PHASE 4 FILMS MAKE OUR FILM?
Phase 4 Films would make our film as they have distributed similar films to our
sequence such as Eden, This is about a “young Korean-American girl, abducted
and forced into prostitution by domestic human traffickers, joins forces with
her captors in a desperate plea to survive.” (IMDb)
4. WHAT ARE OTHER FILMS HAVE THEY MADE?
Miss Meadows
Some Girl(s)
Jamesy Boy
Blubberella
Dear Lemon Lima
Deadland
Terror Trap
5. HOW DOES YOUR FILM FIT WITH THE ETHOS OF THE
INSTITUTION?
Yes because not all their directors had filmed loads of films before
hand which means it would be less expensive to have someone with
less experience then someone like Christopher Nolan who is filminf
huge high market movies. For example one of the films that Phase 4
Films have distributed is Jamesy Boy. The director had only filmed a
short film before directing this. The budget wasn’t too low it was 4
Millions USD.
But then again, their most popular films have high budgets and are
also animated. Are thriller doesn't need a high budget.
6. HOW WOULD PHASE 4 FILMS MARKET OUR FILM?
Our film would have a trailer as all their films have had a trailer. They have
movie posters for their films. Eden and many of the other films have had
premieres so we would probably have a small premiere or be shown at a
film festival.
Because our distributor isn’t part of the top 6 distributors we wouldn't’t be
able to have as much marketing as them, i.e. no interviews or merchandise.
7. DOES PHASE 4 FILMS SPECIALISE IN A GENRE?
Phase 4 Films distribute many different genres such as comedies,
dramas, thrillers and animation.
Their most popular films that they distribute are comedies and
animation. The children animation they have distributed are
Legend of Sarila and life’s a jungle
8. DOES PHASE 4 FILMS HAVE A PARTICULAR TARGET
AUDIENCE?
Most of their films are targeted at adults. Their most popular films are rated
15 or 18 that are comedies or dramas.
The target ages is 18-30 as some of their films are silly and crude. Their
more deep and thrilling, dramas are based for 30-50.
Their animation is based for children but isn't as popular as high end Disney
movies.
