Student Name and Number:

Project proposal title and date:
Tubular
Main area of activity:
Film, Trailer, Photography
Rationale:
For film, I have made an advert and a music video. The knowledge I have gained from doing that
is mainly the editing that comes with it. Such as for my music video, I learned how to do distortion
effects, making the beat visible with quick flashes and timing with the song. I chose to do a surf
trailer because it is something I am knowledgeable about the sport and films on surfing, and I also
do surfing for a hobby so it is something I enjoy to do a lot. I would say that the music video would
be the most similar production to what I am going to be making. So, this will have a positive impact
on my trailer as I am used to making something that matches with the music.
Project Concept:
The concept of my project is surfing and I am going to be making a surfing trailer. For my research,
I will be mainly watching surf trailers and seeing how they use different clips and the transitions
between them. I will also be looking at different editing styles to see which one I would like to add
to my trailer. The transitions will help with the look of my trailer, as it will make it smoother so it all
looks like it is working together and looks in place, this is an important thing to have for the trailer
because if it doesn’t look right then the trailer won’t be enjoyable to watch. Same with the amount
of time each clip is shown, if some clips seem too long or short then that will ruin the look and flow
to the trailer and could ruin the good vibe it is trying to give. For the editing style, I am going to look
at different ways people show surfing, so I will be mainly looking at the more modern editing and
the artistic style of editing. I feel like the modern style will help with the trailer look more like a surf
edit rather than a story so having aspects of modern editing would help attract a younger audience
who like the look of flashy editing. Whereas if I went with the more artistic style of editing it would
attract more of a mature audience as they will be there for the story and surfing rather than the
cool looking edits.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I plan to evaluate my trailer by comparing it to another trailer that has the same style to mine and
see the similarities and differences between them. Also, I can evaluate it by letting other people
watch it and get their opinions on it and see how they would change anything or if they like it or
not. I will also be doing a final evaluation that covers the whole project and how it has built up over
the weeks. This will help develop my other film products in the future as I know what not to do and
how to improve things for the better. So, this will help with the production and overall quality of
future film productions.
