2. Week 1 - CONTEXT
AND PROPOSAL
end of the first week of the final project
and im excited to see how its going to go.
I have a decent idea of what I want to
create but this weeks main goal was to
finish our proposal and start work on the
contextual powerpoint. I finished my
proposal for my project 'stadiademic' and
so far for the contextual powerpoint ive
identified a couple of documentaries that
I would like to take inspiration from.
My proposal is for a sports documentary
called stadiademic, it will look into how
covid affected football. I am hoping I can
get Greig ( a family member ) to be a part
of it since he is a sports photographer
3. Week 2 - CONTEXT
Second week has been spent entirely on my
contextual powerpoint. I have watched
through the three documentaries I had
previously found and since then a couple
more as well as more creative individuals
that have produced videos I would like to
steal ideas from. I have also compiled a
short list of my strengths and weakness
going into this project.
I spent friday researching and looking into
2 particular theories which correlate with
documentaries. Ive also looked at the
different types of documentaries which
there are in order to help me crack down on
the type I would like to create
I have handed my proposal in for feedback
but I think I will do any feedback in my own
time
4. Week 3 - Research
This week was the beginning of the
research powerpoint. The first thing I
have chosen to research is 3 of the
documentaries I most wanted to take
inspiration from in my contextual
document. In this first week ive spent
my time looking at these 3 options in
more depth of what the videos are like
themselves and the sort of audience
which watch them. Ive found this quite
hard to find audience profiles for other
than using a generic one for sky and
Imdb for the other. I have also looked
at XO's videos intro in more depth as I
really want to recreate something
similar to this.
5. Week 4 - RESEARCH
For the second week of research I
created a survey and posted it out into
the group chat, the teams channel and my
own socials. Once ive got more results
back from this I plan to write about what
the results have told me and how that will
affect my project. I have also looked at
the sort of music which I want to have in
my video, I have decided that I want the
music I choose to have some form of link
to football or a football club. Ive
dedeicated a slide to talking about what it
is I want to make and how I see myself
creating this. Since we are at the end of
the week I will be uploading this to teams
for scott to check through and I will wait
for any further improvements based off
of his feedback.
Again I think any improvements from scotts
feedback I do will be done in my own time,
maybe during a half term or a weekend
6. Week 5 - PROBLEM
SOLVING
After the first week of problem solving I
have come to a bit of a problem, I did not
realise we only had one week of problem
solving so I am yet to do my rotoscope
experiment as I thought I had more time.
This mean I will have to continue my
problem solving into the first week of
planning. I don’t think this is the end of the
world and will only put me behind schedule
by a day or so. Other than this problem
solving has been fairly successful I have
created a contingency plan chart as well as
coming up with several potential problems
and I have come up with a contingency for
each one and labelled it a theoretical or
practical problem
7. Week 6 - PROBLEM
SOLVING AND PLANNING
I spent the beginning of this week
finishing off my problem solving, I was
just doing some final mess around with
rotoscoping on after effects, I am fairly
happy with how this turned out. However
I don’t think it will be something which I
bring into the main project but it was fun
to experiment with and definitely
something for the future. Moving onto
planning I created an initial shot list
however I didn’t start this into late in the
week and I am going to film this weekend
on Saturday. I will be going up to Barnsley
with Greig to record my interview and
film him working. I have also once again
explained what I am planning to create as
well as explaining my reasons at to why I
want to create what I am.
8. Week 7 - PLANNING
The filming at the weekend went very
well, there is a very large difference
from how this felt compared to how hull
felt 2 years ago ( this could be due to the
difference between the size of the clubs)
Anyway the focus this week was to finish
my planning even though I had already got
most of my footage. I created a script
for the intro I intend to make, I am very
happy with my script and I have already a
rough recording of it but I plan on getting
a much better one next week in the first
week of production. Aswell as this I have
completed some generic planning details
like the cost of this project to me as well
as the facilities I have on hand.
One of the largest parts of this week was
trying to sort my virtual interviews. I
have had some luck with one of Greig's
colleagues called Dan Briggs, not so much
look with another potential interviewee
named Mark. I have planned out several
questions based on the ones I asked Greig
on the day and I will be sending these
questions off to both participants and we
will hope we can get some footage of
them both. My last thing to do this week
is to send my work off to Scott for
feedback on the document.
9. Week 8 -
PRODUCTION
Since I have already filmed a majority of
my footage I have spent this first week
sorting through said footage and finding
the clips I think look and work well with
what I want to create. After I found all
the clips I want I put them into premiere
along with the whole mic recording. I have
spent my time cutting and joining up each
audio recording with the right video and
sorting them into each question. Scott
showed me a tool on premiere which is
designed to help sync audio to the right clip
but after several attempts of it not
syncing right I gave up trying to use this.
So all though it became a very long and
menial task I went clip by clip syncing the
footage by matching up the sound waves so
the mic audio would be the same pattern as
the raw camera audio.
My next job for this week after that was
to get it to an acceptable sound level. This
didn’t take long for a majority of the clips
I used –12db as it made it clear but also
not too loud that it was uncomfortable to
watch. The only issue I had was the opening
dialogue for Greig introducing himself
didn’t get captured by the microphone, I
am not sure why this is but I have had to
leave it as the raw camera audio. It is not a
massively noticeable difference as its only
a couple of words but once you’ve heard it
you can realise and it is very annoying.
10. Week 9-
PRODUCTION
After last weeks and starting to piece
together my production, it came to my
attention that the colours of all my shots
were so far apart. The first shot I had
was a lot warmer and brighter than the
others and this was something I really
liked about it. So after finishing off the
piecing together I spent a majority of
this week trying to find ways to change
adjustment layers to make them feel a lot
more similar and closer to the first shot.
After several attempts I have got the
latter shots to feel a lot warmer. I have
done this simply by upping the contrast
and boosting the reds and lowering the
blues. Another thing I have done is added
more shadows and boosted the whites.
If I am to be completely honest I had
very little idea of what to do to acquire
my desired effect so this was almost an
experiment in itself. I just played around
with the sliders until I was able to get a
result I liked. I asked Scott for some
help with this as when I showed him what
I had so far he also pointed out how it
felt weird due to it being off coloured. I
let him try and work his 'magic'. But it
was to no prevail as he couldn’t get it to a
good match either. I think I am going to
have to leave it how it is for now, as it is
not miles off and I can always come back
to this later as it has already put me
behind schedule and I have spent far too
long on such a small task.
11. Week 10 -
PRODUCTION
This has been one of my favourite things
to compile and edit in this entire project
so far. One of my favoruite things to do
is go looking for old clips that fit what im
trying to make. I took inspiration from
XO's video which I spoke about in my
context and research where there
opening was created from stock footage
and just written text. I think my intro I
have created has turned out very well.
The begging of which turned into a
hassle as the college has blocked useful
tools such youtube to mp4 and any form
of website similar. This has meant part
of my week was just finding footage to
then download at home, and with the
college wifi not being the strongest
trying to download these extended clips
Just seemed to take up an abundance of
my time. But after doing so I began to
clip them in to places along a audio file I
had already made earlier. It was a small
monologue talking about what my project
was and what it was about. I already had
a rough idea of how I wanted this too
look so the actual piecing together did
not take as long as compiling the footage.
Aswell as this I had a song play at the
beginning and ending of this intro, the
song I went for was right here right now
by Fatboy Slim. I had the song play
before anything was on screen and had it
to drop in volume and play throughout.
The pacing fit my monologue and the
pacing of the video really well and I think
it was a great song to choose for what I
wanted to make.
13. Week 11 -
PRODUCTION AND
CORRECTIONS
This week hasn’t been massively
productive. I completely disregarded a
lot of the written tasks and acting upon
feedback. So a lot of this week has just
been going through the teams
assignments tab and checking each one
off for feedback and then sending it
back for more. So far I have played
feedback tennis with my proposal,
contextual and research powerpoints. All
of which have now been given the green
light to be uploaded onto my websites.
The main issue with each was detail and
bulking out certain areas. It was also a
lot of just font changes and grammar
checks.

The rest of the week I used to try and
better the colour of my project yet
again. Since I didn’t have any fresh
footage to put into this week I though
doing feedback and trying to really get a
grip of this colouring was a good use of
my time. I decided the best thing I can
do is to over expose and make the first
video a lot warmer by over saturating it.
This has caused my whole project to feel
very saturate but it all feels a lot more
like it fits together now. If I am honest
I would have rather had it all be correct
from shooting but this is going to be one
of those issues I have to take on the
chin and move on. As I have spent a week
and a half on this which is far too long
14. Week 12 -
PRODUCTION AND
CORRECTIONS AGAIN
Again as I did not have too much left to do I
have spent a lot of this week doing corrections.
However the powerpoints I had left to improve
from feedback were in a much worse state. My
problem solving and Planning powerpoints were
nowhere near a standard at which I needed them
to be at. For problem solving my main feedback
was to just add more detail to my write up for my
experiments. However the planning needed a lot
of work, I was told it was a good start with
appropriate sections, I had shown good starts to
some organisational planning but it lacked depth
and detail. To fix this I spent time going through
it and bulking out each section, my shot list I
explained each shot a lot better and doubled the
amount as I now had a better idea of the types
of shots I had and had wanted to get.
Aswell as this I did more on the types of
interview I would be getting as well as a rough
Plan of how long each section would be. I then
went on to add more detail about the email
conversations I had with each potential interviewee
as I felt it was important to show how I got my
interviews and even for the ones that did not come
to light in the end.
The other part of my week was adding a quick
introduction for Greig. Although he introduces
himself in the beginning of his interview I felt it
appropriate to add a quick 10 second clip of me
explaining who he is and why he was been
selected for an interview.
15. Week 13 -
PRODUCTION
This has possible been one of the most
infuriating weeks, after receiving
feedback from peers and from Scott it
was clear my video needed a proper outro.
They all said the same and that is cuts off
very abruptly. I tried to record several
different outros when recorded my
introduction for Greig. It had me signing
off, summarising what we have spoke
about and what the next episode will
conclude. I just could not bare to use the
footage though, I hate being in front of
the camera and I hate seeing it more than
anything even for something for a college
project. My immediate plan b was to just
use the audio but what I created was
awful. I don’t think it fit the style nor the
standard I deem acceptable.

in a weeks worth of work just being
scrapped. I have still uploaded this version
to my website however I havent chosen it
a my final piece.
16. Week 14 - EVALUATION AND
PRESENTATION
This final week has been spent completing
my evaluation document. This is easily on
of my least favourite parts of the project.
I find it really hard to find that much to
talk about my own project and at the end
of all the editing I have usually found so
many issues with my piece that normally I
have developed a distain for it . However
this time although there have been issues
I wish I could have changed I have been
happy with my final piece so it has been a
lot easier to write about it. One of my
other main issues with evaluation is talking
about feedback from others as I find it
hard to get people to give me feedback. I
don’t feel confident with sharing my
project with a lot of people so the pool of
potential 'feedbackers' is already small.
A lot of which would just reply with yeah
that’s decent or yeah that’s pretty sick as
they don’t really care enough to give more
than 5 minutes. I try to steer clear of
classmates giving feedback when they
have already seen it so many times as the
feedback is often on things they have
already mentioned and I have either taken
the creative decision to keep it that way
or it was something I wasn’t able to
change. I did step out of my comfort zone
by releasing this on my photography
account asking for feedback, which I
hated doing and yet again didn’t receive
any.
The last thing I had to do was create a
way of presenting my work. A lot of others
said they had created merchandise and
more often than none tshirts for their
project. However I didn’t feel like this
felt appropriate for what I was making .
17. Week 14 - EVALUATION AND
PRESENTATION
Instead of this I chose to release my
documentary onto my photography
account. The main thing I post is sports
photography so the audience already
attracted was the same as my target
audience. I did roughly 5 promotional posts
about this and a couple of stories (
numbers may of changed since writing
this). They were either stills, small
snippets or photos of the game I had
taken of the day. These posts date back
from the middle of may so I could try and
generate some interest. The entirety of
the video itself was uploaded to youtube
with a link to it in the bio of my account. I
changed the bio of the account to promote
the video as well. " Stadiademic official
documentary exclusively below"
