3. Research
• Product research was in detail and had lots
of information and included links and
pictures to what was being referenced
• Primary audience research was in detail and
had many responses from the survey I made
and so helped with finding what was
needed however I couldn’t make everything
from what the survey wanted to the video
as its an all male group of skaters
• Secondary research went ok, it was hard to
find recent research and something that
directly related to the demographics of
people who watch skate videos so I had to
choose similar topics for it to be based off
• Practical research was hard because I didn’t
have any clips to make a small skate video
and so did a magazine ad based off Quasi, a
skate brand, however I ended up not having
advertising as there is too little production
time left
4. Planning
• Planning the location was quite easy as we
were just going to spots that we have
already hit but recording it and/or trying
new tricks however getting the photos
was hard as some of the spots are quite
recently made and so I had to get an in-
person photo rather than using google
maps
• The questions were also easy to plan as I
used ‘The Decline Of Western Civ’ as a
foundation for questions but changing it
to do with skating however during the
interviews to get more words out of
people I had to make up questions like
asking about experience in playing guitar
and how long they had been doing that
• Planning music was also easy because all I
had to do was ask the people featured for
3 songs- 2 they like and 1 reflective of
their style then chose the songs which
would fit together the best with clips that
I got
5. Planning
• Planning the production schedule was hard
due to not being able to know the weather,
if someone couldn’t make it because of
travel complications or if someone had an
unexpected injury and so couldn't come out
• The resources needed seemed easy in the
beginning but not being able to have
money for a wide angle lens and one of the
smaller cameras breaking unexpectedly
made majority of this insignificant
• I found health and safety and contingency
planning quite hard in the beginning
because I wasn’t sure how in detail to go
and so it was quite brief but even after
adding to it it was still brief and I didn't
know how to improve it further
6. Time Management
• The time management started out strong in the beginning and had gotten all
the clips I needed for the first part and interview in the first two weeks in time
with the production schedule
• The second part was hard to film due to an accident that happened to the
skater and so we had to film other stuff during that time. I also hadn't go t a
large variety of clips and most the tricks were quite the same so I had to film
longer than I initially expected to
• The third part was filmed in two days and I had gotten a range of clips and
tricks I also didn't need to edit down the song as there were lots of clips to
choose from
• The fourth part took a while to film because of the weather being horrible for
skating and so I was limited by the places to film so the tricks were similar.
• I got half of the interviews done around the same time and so editing it into
the final cut was quite easy
• If I had more time I would of made advertisements for the video using
YouTube for trailers and Instagram for shorter videos and photos
7. Technical Qualities
• I got inspiration from ‘Mother’ by
Quasi, a 2017 skate video, where
they overlay a video or image over
another video. I initially kept the
video in foreground a solid colour
but chose to make it translucent this
created a unique ghost effect that
would make viewers see two sides
of what is happening.
8. Technical qualities
• In ‘Yeah Right!’ by Girl Skateboards they use an
animation to introduce the skaters. In my video
I used Photoshop to create my animation, on
my first couple goes I tried out adding more
and more colour and tweening it to create a
sort of radiating effect however on my last
couple tries I used a small paint brush this
created a vein-looking effect that came out
better than the original.
9. Aesthetic Qualities
• I liked how they were in different environments when I was interviewing them because
it showed how the skaters were when they’re not skating however they could have been
shot at same level and same distance away to make the transitions smoother
• The inserts between interviews and parts add to the strength of seeing skaters personality
•
10. √
Audience Appeal
• I think that the video will get a good amount
of positive reviews as I appealed to most of
the content that people like to see in skate
videos found from the primary research.
• There is a range of good music used that
reflects the style of the skater
• I have used a range of ways to capture the
skater including following them on a board,
using reflections and zooming in from far
away
• I think I could of worked on getting more clips on different tricks as in Oli’s part there
were quite a few of the same tricks shot in the same place which would probably
make viewers lose attention
• I would say that for a personal gimmick that the interviews were unique as I have not
seen them mentioned in any other skate videos however could of made a personal
gimmick that was skating orientated liked in ‘Yeah Right!’ or ‘Man Ramp’
• I would say that you could see the style of skaters quite a lot and most of them had
‘steeze’- great style and flow
• I think transitions and inserts were quite strong in the video as they were quite
smooth going from interview to parts and the inserts were related to the what was
being said or what had been shown.
11. Audience
Appeal
• I think that the video will do
better on YouTube as only 3
people primarily use just
Instagram to watch skate videos
• however it should still be on
Instagram as 15-17 year olds use
Instagram as their main social
media platform
13. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– Original video style, transitions
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– Bit repetitive could have had some different tricks
14. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– i liked the music a lot it matched the free form feel of
the video
– the video gave off a vibe of just not caring and having
fun yes i would watch again
– I liked the mix of things happening all at once
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• -video was quite long could of cut out some parts
15. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– The animations for each skater
– The music was very fitting to the video and styles of each
skaters part!
– It gave off a similar vibe to most other skate-videos which
is good as it gives it a more professional look/vibe.
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
– Chosen people with different abilities so the tricks
wouldn’t be as repetitive
16. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
– The music fit the parts quite well and so it would be
enjoyable to watch
– There should have been a range of different abilities
so the tricks wouldn't be repeating
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
• I disagree with the video being too long as the
parts were necessary to the video and is about
average for skate videos.
17. Peer Feedback Summary
– I would of added more people to encompass the
scene there better and to show the different
range of abilities that people have and how they
view it
– I would cut out small bits of some people’s parts
so the video wouldn’t have too many unnecessary
parts
