2. Of the eight people that answered most of them
found that suspense was rising throughout the
production. Five of them found the rising
suspension was effective and in comparison only
two found it slightly rising and only the one found
it not rise at all. This is good solid audience
feedback to show that tension is rising through
the use of editing and camera angles/movement.
From the start the main convention that I have tried to used as a hook to keep the audience on the
edge of their seats and to make them want to continue watching after the opening scene. Suspense
and tension are the two conventions that can help achieve a good thriller and the opening sequence
should start lively and make the audience want to watch the rest of the thriller. Obviously it is hard to
please everyone and some people won't like the clip which may be down to personal taste.
3. To make sure that the music selected was as effective as
possible I had to make sure it aided in the rise of tension
and suspension. The music needed a separate question
because it is important to gather feedback on the music.
The music is so vital to the suspension and tension that it
allows for the growth of tension.
As you can see from the graph most people
found it to add at least something to the
production.
4. Our intended audience was middle class and to address them we tried to create a middle class
victim to the crime of kidnapping. As you can see the audience who gave feedback, almost all
of them could tell and associate with him because of his middle class characteristics. We tried
to create this association to try and entice the audience into the production by showing them
that it could happen to them. From our research we found that most often people who enjoy
watching thrillers do fall under the middle social class so therefore we thought that we should
try to introduce at least one middle class character.
5. To comply with the usual conventions we
wanted to produce a fast paced production
that contains tension and suspense, however
from our audience feedback you can see they
didn’t all find it thrilling. Of the feedback that
we got that was positive they must have
appreciated the fast editing cuts that are
generated from the starting shots that in
contrast are much slower. The audience that
didn’t find it fast paced must be concentrating
on the build up to the kidnapping which is
quite slow paced.
6. This question was to test if the audience
could form an emotional bond which is what
we were trying to achieve with the victim and
more people found themselves forming a
connection with him.
To try and engage the audience fully we did
try to create an emotional bond so that they
would invest into the wellbeing of the
character. This could lead them to want to
carry on watching purely for the purpose of
finding out what happens to him after he is
kidnapped.
