2. Target Audience
• During pre-production I decided that I would be aiming the film towards an
age range between 18-35 year olds. My film is a romance/action and I believe
that this genre will attract both genders.
• Doing further research into which genders would prefer my film leaned more
towards women. Psychologically it is said that sadder films attract females
and less of men and that is why I decided to create more suspension and
drama within the film to make it a more gender neutral film.
3. Target Audience Research
• Basing the original ideas off of what I knew, I began to put together ideas
and short clips of the film to show to people as testers. By doing this I knew
that I had something to work from.
• By doing one on one interviews, telling the other people the idea of the
narrative and storyline, then showing clips I’d filmed previously I wanted to
gather feedback on what they thought was good and bad and what could
have been worked on to make some parts more appealing.
4. Target Audience Research
• Receiving the feedback helped me to acknowledge what other people found
thrilling, dramatic and romantic. It also helped me to understand that I
needed to make the narrative stronger so it would be clearer to follow and
understand.
• From this response I received I found out that it was better to involve some
information instead of metaphorically emphasising it.
5. Audience Pleasures
• An active audience engages, interprets and responds to a media text in
different ways and is capable of challenging the ideas encoded in it.
• A passive audience is more likely to accept the messages encoded in a media
text without challenge and are therefore more likely to be directly affected by
the messages.
6. How TA relates to Characters
• Within my film I involve two 18 year old portraying their students lives and
their personal lives. I play around with the idea of mental health, breakups
and school.
• It is proven that audiences relate more to the characters if they are around
the similar ages, as my two characters are young adults and we are aiming our
film to 18+ it means that girl and guy has most probably experienced what
we are showing.
7. Relate to production
• Many romance/action films are based around real life scenarios and that is
why I decided to film in parts of villages that regular people would live in. I
wanted to bring out the questions that people are afraid to ask and to show
to my audience that the smallest and biggest of relationships still affect those
people psychologically the same way.
• Considering where I live and my friends I wanted to capture the life we live
in currently.
8. Conclusion
• Overall I think I did a good job at capturing the right things for the audience
I am aiming towards. I have made it able to relate to any ages because mental
issues are found in 1 of 4 people, and it is common for both genders to feel
heartbreak.
• The advice I received specifically from the film drafts I created were useful
because it enabled me to improve on areas I hadn’t seen before, therefor
making it more appealing towards my audience because they told me what
they did and didn’t like.
