Audience feedback is important for film producers to understand if audiences are enjoying a film and how it could be improved. Methods of collecting feedback include test screenings, where volunteers watch and provide opinions, and questionnaires to understand audience expectations and desires. The document discusses using these methods on student film projects, including having students rate scenes and choose the best movie poster design. The feedback helped identify weak areas to improve.

Audience Feedback Critical for Media Projects
1.
2. Audience feedback is key factor for the media
especially the film industry, it enables
producers to be aware of the process of their
film and whether or not audiences are liking
it.Though audiences will always have
differences in opinions audience feedback is
still important because it represents the
target population as whole rather than
looking at individuals.
3. 1. Screenings- this is where a group of people are
chosen through volunteer sampling and have the
opportunity to watch the film before it has been
released. It is almost like a pilot study, once they
have watched the film they are asked individually
what their personal opinions are of it and how the
film could be made better.
Strength- fans of that film feel as though they are being
involved in the production of the film
Weakness- when watching the film as a whole group
participant may feel influenced.
4. 2. Self complete questionnaires-
Participants can complete their own questionnaire on
their take on the advertising of the film. They can
assess what they expect from the film itself and
what they would like to see.
Strength- gives producers an opportunity to explore
audiences minds and is not very time consuming
Weakness- self complete questionnaires mean if
audiences do not understand some questions
properly they may just give answers which are not
actually relevant.
5. Once we had filmed everything we got some students from the sixth form to come and watch it all. We sat
them down and asked them to rate each scene using the rating scale we had provided them. This made
us aware of the content in each film and made it a lot easier for us to get rid of a lot of footage as well.
We decided that if a clip got lower than 3 we would not keep that footage and if it was between 3 and 4
then we would keep it but improve it. However we also remembered than when we actually edit it all the
footage will look a lot different.

6. For my poster I created 3 drafts and asked audiences to rank the order of which ones they liked
best. It was obvious that I was going to use the one which received the highest rankings for
my final poster.

7. I was unable to conduct any audience
feedback for my review because obviously I
did not write it myself and LittleWhite Lies
did. Therefore I was unable to have any input
for this however I was very happy with the
review that they had written for me .
8. The feedback was very useful as it helped me
understand the areas which I needed to focus
on as an individual for example in my poster
and helped us as a group for the short film.
If I was in a real media context this feedback
would definitely help me because it would
allow me to improve on my work however I
would hopefully have a lot more participants
and hopefully they would not just be students
from my sixth form.
