WHAT IS AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
• An audience response
• People responding to a final piece.
• Reactions from the audience , They say their opinions on what they think
HOW CAN WE COLLECT THE
FEEDBACK?
• YouTube comment
section
• Facebook
• Questionnaires
• Interviews
TYPES OF FEEDBACK
• Quantitative Research – Feedback which is given/received in
data. (numerical response)
Eg: Out of a group of 10, 8 people rated the movie Paramnesia 10/10
• Qualitative Research – Open, comment based feedback.
(emotional response)
Eg: 8 students thought that the movie Paramnesia was an excellent
psychological thriller however 2 said that storyline can be improved a little.
WHY AUDIENCE FEEDBACK IS
IMPORTANT?• Critical part of the communication process
• It is important so we can learn what has been done successfully and what can be
improved.
• Understand how our message is being received and how it is interpreted.
• Gives us the ability to adjust our outcome and improve its message.
• Film industries would spend a lot of time and money on this stage so they can
use the feedback as advice on upcoming projects that they would want to release
in the future.
• Shows who their audience is, helps them with the next film they create.
• IT’S THE AUDIENCE WHO GIVE THE REVENUE AND THEN THE PROFIT!!
• The audience is the reason for making a film!
• Surviving The Seshhh targets mostly females– this is because the characters in our storyline and teaser are
most girls. It would attract more females than males. In todays society it can attract boys too!
• We aim to reach girls over the age of 15 to 22 years. This is because it is similar to the age of our 2 main
characters Nadia and Alexa. Lots of teasers that we have researched which are a similar genre (teen drama/
thriller) also have a similar target audience with a rating of 15 years +
• The situation in Survivng the Seshhh is between girls and a trick that is performed on message! It can be
seen as a form of cyberbullying which can reach out the young audience who are currently in school or
have left education with the experience of being bullied. This gives our teaser more of an impact on the
audience and has a meaning for the younger generation. This is why it can attract boys too because they
can be victims of cyberbullying.
• Throughout my research process one thing I did was interview several student to ask what
their faveourite genre was. I discovered that both female and male students like the genre
of a thriller and that this is their number 1 genre that they would want to watch.
Furthermore this was an issue due to the fact that our teaser was more of a drama than
thriller but when asking if they would be interested if the group and I would create a
teen thriller both sex’s said yes! According to my research they said that it would be “more
appealing” to the age group.
• Throughout the research I discovered that more girls preferred teen drama’s. This is why it
gave me and my group the idea that aiming to mostly girls would allow our teaser to
succeed. The girls in our college are in the age category that we aim to reach which Is why
my research was successful to me and my group. Maybe this didn't create good validity as
I did’t ask people from an older age group if they would be interested in a teen thriller. It
would of given the group and I a chance to target another audience too therefore
allowing us to have a higher chance of a larger audience thus an increase in revenue and
profit.
• Another way I received audience feedback was to ask what tagline we should use for our
poster and magazine cover! Me and my group were struggling a lot on what we should say.
We had the option of:
• It was very difficult to decide on what we wanted and we thought that asking people would
help our magazine succeed in the end. Audiences opinion is the most vital and placing a bad
tagline on our print work could effect the sales! Therefore what we needed was a voice to
give the group and I guidance.
• Here was a couple of interviews that I did but the result was very close. This meant that both
taglines were suitable for our print work. We did change it up a bit and shorten one of our
taglines to “Live For Die For” as we preferred the sound of it. It was short , catchy and other
movies that are successful have small taglines too! Due to the fact that more people were
confident that ”Live For , “Die For” was a gripping tagline , the group and I chose to make
this our main tagline and place this in our teaser trailer to!
”One More Shot”
“Live For The Seshhh, Die For
The Seshhh
I believe that this
audience feedback was
very helpful as it gave the
Surviving The Seshhh
team the confidence to
know what is best on our
print work. If I were to
place a tagline which
people didn't like as
much it would not only
stop people from buying
the magazine but it can
also decrease the success
of the film itself due to
the fact that people look
at the poster and then
judge if they would want
to see the film or not.
It gave me and my group the opportunity to use
more than one tagline in our magazine and
poster. This stopped our print work from
becoming boring because of people wouldn't
just see the same text on the poster and
magazine cover.
As you can see throughout Post Production we chose to ask the audiences opinions and use this to
improve our teaser. The first half of the editing process lasted about 2 weeks and at the end of the two
weeks we did something called a ‘rough cut’. This was to show what the group and I have done so far. It is
a way to demonstrate what our final outcome could look like with more tweaking and editing.
Furthermore the group and I were not happy at all with our rough cut at this stage. After showing our
rough cut to the class we managed to get feedback of what went well, and what can be improved.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuXq
OhmIkWM
• Each feedback paper was from each group in my class. They gave us their opinions after watching the rough cut on
how they thought the teaser was and also what went well. We also got feedback from Liz which was very helpful
because getting an opinion from someone more experienced in the field can benefit significantly.
• We used this feedback as a guidance to a better grade and a better teaser. The comments gave us an idea of what
needed to be changed. A popular comment within my class was that our thriller was a teen drama NOT a teen
thriller. This gave us the idea that when we go back to editing we can add special effects to increase the impact of
our film to be a teen thriller. This will make our teaser more impactful and through this we can show how our
message of cyberbullying is more serious and our narrative theme is more clear!
• Another comment that was said a lot in the class is that one of our strengths is we followed the conventions of a
teaser trailer. This includes short and fast shots of different aspects of Survivng The Seshhh which is what is normally
in other teasers that I have researched in the past. As it has given us the confidence that we have successfully done a
conventional teaser trailer therefore the group and I were sure that we didn't’ have to change the duration of shots
and instead work on each scene one by one!
• It gave me and my group the insight to maybe add more short duration shots onto the timeline as the more we
show the audience , the more impactful it can be1 Therefore we resulted in adding more small shots which we
thought we wouldn't include but we ended up adding!
• Survivng the Seshhh was eventually completed and the group and I did as much as
we can to complete a gripping teaser trailer. We had the final screenings and the
whole class watched out final piece.
<--- Our Teaser
After the class watched
the teaser Survivng The
Seshhh they all gave us
feedback on how they
thought it was!
• The audience feedback was given to us on YouTube below our teaser (in the comment
section) and everyone typed their opinions on what they think went well.
• One comment that was said by a students which was also said on the rough cut is that we
have successfully followed the conventions on teaser trailers. This was said by several people
which is good for us as it means that our research has really impacted us and given the
group and I help on what we needed to do to complete a successful teaser. It also shows
how the Surviving The Seshhh group has shown a good understanding on a layout and
representation of what a teaser trailer is. Our knowledge and research has really stood out
from our final cut.
• Aa there were several more comments I decided to make a word cloud to visually display
what most popular words were said through the feedback. This will allow me to understand
easier on what most of our feedback means and says.
• Sound: As you can see sound was mentioned a lot in the feedback. Many of them loved the
sound that was created for Survivng the Seshhh. The group and I tried to include as much
sound as possible, both non diegetic and diegetic. This included the soundtrack created on
garage band to the foley sounds like the can opening. We also incorporated sound effects
available on Final Cut Pro such as background sound of people at a party. Maddie tried to
create a enjoyable soundtrack which also has dramatic music as well so our genre and
can really be emphasized. One person said that the soundtrack “really engaged the audience
and made them feel like they were part of the party creating a realistic effect”. From this I
believe that we have been successful with the sound. Making it ‘realistic’ is something that
everyone wants to achieve in the making of a teaser so the group and I are very happy. We
also happy that we used lots of software's as well. Maddie learnt how to use garage band and
we all discovered the sound effects available on Final Cut Pro.
• Something that could have been improved in the sound is near the beginning of the teaser
where the soundtrack stops. No one said about this in the audience feedback but I believe
it almost stops the flow of the teaser so maybe that could have been adjusted in the final
process of completing the soundtrack.
• Effective: This word was used lot as well. I believe that having this word repeated many
times is great because I feel that overall our teaser has been effective on delivering our
message of bullying to the audience. One of the comments said that the “camera work was
effective” in the teaser. I believe that we tried to do as many angles and shots as we can.
tried to do hand held camera shakes to make it look like someone's point of view.
• We also added lots of close-ups, extreme close ups and long shots to make to make it
to the audience what is going on and the characters emotions. The teaser is more
and dramatic through this way.
• Again people said that we followed the conventions effectively which again shows a
of our teaser!!
• Trailer: Trailer is seen to be the biggest word there on the word cloud.
By looking at this word it doesn't really mean anything until I realised
that most of the comments has the word ‘teaser’ or ‘teaser trailer’ in.
Doesn't this mean that we have successfully created a teaser because
most of the students have acknowledged that what we have made a
teaser trailer. This could be because:
1. We have followed the conventions (short and fast pace shots)
2. We added the titles in the end and said “Coming soon”
By looking at all the feedback it looks like the main strength from
Survivng The Seshhh is that we have followed the conventions of a
teaser!!!
• Teen: Throughout our audience feedback one word that said a lot was “teen”. Of
course our target audience our mostly in the teen category therefore I believe that
we have successfully reached our main target audience.
• It also shows how the audience have acknowledged that most characters are
teenagers therefore the teaser can be relatable to the audience. It shows how our
teaser is “effective” in reaching out to the audience thus making Surviving The
Seshhh impactful.
• This could be seen as a drawback that ”teen” was said several times because our
genre is a teen thriller not a teen drama. This could mean that one thing we
achieve as well as we hoped is addressing that Surviving the Seshhh is a thriller
• These small words also highlight the significance of Surviving The
Seshhh. One of my faveourite words is “invited”. The hashtag near
the end saying “You’re Invited” is a way of interacting with the
audience and making them feel apart of our party. We got this
idea from project X which Is why we thought it was a good idea to
use their name at the beginning and give them some credit. The
hashtag brings the teens in to our world and shows them that
anything could happen even when it’s a small prank. We loved
this idea and it really payed off!!
• In conclusion the audience feedback that we have collected for our print work and
rough cut has helped us a lot from making a gripping teaser trailer. The audience
feedback from our teaser in the end has given the group and I an idea of what went
well and what could be improved which is beneficial if we were in a similar situation
in the future.
• One thing that this demonstrates is how our marketing campaign as been successful
as we have used a lot of ideas, research and audiences opinions to make a teaser
that they are happy with. This can be from finding what tagline is best to asking
opinions on genres. The smallest things have counted to our final piece and the
aspects that needs to be improved has taught the Surviving The Seshhh team many
lessons about editing, reaching target audiences and genres , especially as we didn't
do as much to our campaigns that was on the thriller side!!

This includes short and fast shots of different aspects of Survivng The Seshhh which is what is normally in other teasers that I have researched in the past. As it has given us the confidence that we have successfully done a conventional teaser trailer therefore the group and I were sure that we didn't’ have to change the duration of shots and instead work on each scene one by one! • It gave me and my group the insight to maybe add more short duration shots onto the timeline as the more we show the audience , the more impactful it can be1 Therefore we resulted in adding more small shots which we thought we wouldn't include but we ended up adding!
  • 13. • Survivng the Seshhh was eventually completed and the group and I did as much as we can to complete a gripping teaser trailer. We had the final screenings and the whole class watched out final piece. <--- Our Teaser After the class watched the teaser Survivng The Seshhh they all gave us feedback on how they thought it was!

  • 16. • The audience feedback was given to us on YouTube below our teaser (in the comment section) and everyone typed their opinions on what they think went well. • One comment that was said by a students which was also said on the rough cut is that we have successfully followed the conventions on teaser trailers. This was said by several people which is good for us as it means that our research has really impacted us and given the group and I help on what we needed to do to complete a successful teaser. It also shows how the Surviving The Seshhh group has shown a good understanding on a layout and representation of what a teaser trailer is. Our knowledge and research has really stood out from our final cut. • Aa there were several more comments I decided to make a word cloud to visually display what most popular words were said through the feedback. This will allow me to understand easier on what most of our feedback means and says.

  • 18. • Sound: As you can see sound was mentioned a lot in the feedback. Many of them loved the sound that was created for Survivng the Seshhh. The group and I tried to include as much sound as possible, both non diegetic and diegetic. This included the soundtrack created on garage band to the foley sounds like the can opening. We also incorporated sound effects available on Final Cut Pro such as background sound of people at a party. Maddie tried to create a enjoyable soundtrack which also has dramatic music as well so our genre and can really be emphasized. One person said that the soundtrack “really engaged the audience and made them feel like they were part of the party creating a realistic effect”. From this I believe that we have been successful with the sound. Making it ‘realistic’ is something that everyone wants to achieve in the making of a teaser so the group and I are very happy. We also happy that we used lots of software's as well. Maddie learnt how to use garage band and we all discovered the sound effects available on Final Cut Pro. • Something that could have been improved in the sound is near the beginning of the teaser where the soundtrack stops. No one said about this in the audience feedback but I believe it almost stops the flow of the teaser so maybe that could have been adjusted in the final process of completing the soundtrack.

  • 20. • Effective: This word was used lot as well. I believe that having this word repeated many times is great because I feel that overall our teaser has been effective on delivering our message of bullying to the audience. One of the comments said that the “camera work was effective” in the teaser. I believe that we tried to do as many angles and shots as we can. tried to do hand held camera shakes to make it look like someone's point of view. • We also added lots of close-ups, extreme close ups and long shots to make to make it to the audience what is going on and the characters emotions. The teaser is more and dramatic through this way. • Again people said that we followed the conventions effectively which again shows a of our teaser!!

  • 22. • Trailer: Trailer is seen to be the biggest word there on the word cloud. By looking at this word it doesn't really mean anything until I realised that most of the comments has the word ‘teaser’ or ‘teaser trailer’ in. Doesn't this mean that we have successfully created a teaser because most of the students have acknowledged that what we have made a teaser trailer. This could be because: 1. We have followed the conventions (short and fast pace shots) 2. We added the titles in the end and said “Coming soon” By looking at all the feedback it looks like the main strength from Survivng The Seshhh is that we have followed the conventions of a teaser!!!

  • 24. • Teen: Throughout our audience feedback one word that said a lot was “teen”. Of course our target audience our mostly in the teen category therefore I believe that we have successfully reached our main target audience. • It also shows how the audience have acknowledged that most characters are teenagers therefore the teaser can be relatable to the audience. It shows how our teaser is “effective” in reaching out to the audience thus making Surviving The Seshhh impactful. • This could be seen as a drawback that ”teen” was said several times because our genre is a teen thriller not a teen drama. This could mean that one thing we achieve as well as we hoped is addressing that Surviving the Seshhh is a thriller

  • 26. • These small words also highlight the significance of Surviving The Seshhh. One of my faveourite words is “invited”. The hashtag near the end saying “You’re Invited” is a way of interacting with the audience and making them feel apart of our party. We got this idea from project X which Is why we thought it was a good idea to use their name at the beginning and give them some credit. The hashtag brings the teens in to our world and shows them that anything could happen even when it’s a small prank. We loved this idea and it really payed off!!
  • 27. • In conclusion the audience feedback that we have collected for our print work and rough cut has helped us a lot from making a gripping teaser trailer. The audience feedback from our teaser in the end has given the group and I an idea of what went well and what could be improved which is beneficial if we were in a similar situation in the future. • One thing that this demonstrates is how our marketing campaign as been successful as we have used a lot of ideas, research and audiences opinions to make a teaser that they are happy with. This can be from finding what tagline is best to asking opinions on genres. The smallest things have counted to our final piece and the aspects that needs to be improved has taught the Surviving The Seshhh team many lessons about editing, reaching target audiences and genres , especially as we didn't do as much to our campaigns that was on the thriller side!!
