2. TASK 1 TRANSLATION
• PARAGRAPH 1
The craft of perfumery has an ancient and global heritage. The art flourished in Ancient Rome, where
the emperors were said to bathe in scent. After the fall of Rome, much of the knowledge was lost, but
survived in Islamic civilizations in the Middle Ages. Arab and Persian pharmacists developed essential
oils from the aromatic plants of the Indian peninsula. They developed the processes of distillation and
suspension in alcohol, which allowed for smaller amounts of raw materials to be used than in the
ancient process, by which flower petals were soaked in warm oil. This knowledge was carried back to
European monasteries during the Crusades.

3. TASK 2 REFLECTION
I had some problems to understand how I can translate a text was written in
English to English. But, I could find that some structures and grammar could be
replaced in the sentence to explaining the same idea for example: “the processes
of distillation and suspension in alcohol” Whereby, I applied some translation
techniques so.
I did not know the verb as “flourish”, so, I changed it using modulation technique.
On the other hand, I could notice that we can use various techniques in the same
text.
4. TASK 3 CHART
METHOD STRATEGY TECHNIQUE
Is the way a translator uses to
make a translation in a text.
Is the plan for making the
translation.
Are the rules, standards, and
complement of the method.

literal translation

errors.
Functional, formal, descriptive.
