ENGLISH 7_Q4_LESSON 2_ Employing a Variety of Strategies for Effective Interp...
Evaluation question 6
1. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNTABOUT
TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE
PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS
PRODUCT?
2. Camera Equipment
• Canon DSLR 650 EOS
• Camera lens
• Tripod (both large and small)
• Lights
• Microphone
3. Equipment
Strengths Of The Camera:
• Change the focus manually- meant we could make the
mirror and opening shots blurred in comparison to the
others.
• Opposite was shown in the shots of the protagonist
crying.
• Easy to work and control.
• Small and easy to manoeuvre – easy to get more
complex shots e.g. mirror.
4. Equipment
Weaknesses of The Camera:
• Camera Battery – (It died on us twice whilst filming due to
the fact it only has a battery life of 2/3 hours)
• Led to problems whilst we were filming outside , we had
low battery when filming the forest shots and it made it
more stressful.
• Furthermore the disruption of stopping and starting made
it difficult to get back into filming when the battery is
charged.
5. Equipment
Strengths of the Lens:
• Allowed the shots we took to appear very detailed and
clear – especially the one that appears on our poster.
• Meant our sequence looked more professional due to the
zoom and focus setting.
• Easy to put onto the camera which made the whole
process of filming quicker and more pleasant.
6. Equipment
Weaknesses of Lens:
• Lens often came out of focus , and became difficult to put
it back into focus. Made filming certain scenes longer and
meant we lost time for filming other bits.
• Also made it difficult to keep consistent when trying to
achieve continuity editing and most importantly during our
match on match action.
7. Equipment
Strengths of the Tripod:
• Was crucial when filming our panning shots, which was
some of our most successful shots during our whole
opening sequence.
• Reduced the amount of shakiness – meant that most of
our shots were really steady and if they weren't it was
intentional e.g. point of view shot running through woods.
• Meant we could achieve a range of shots in multiple
locations.
• Easy to pack up.
8. Equipment
Weaknesses of the Tripod:
• Although easy to pack up , it requires extra time and it
prolongs the process when trying to quickly move to other
locations.
• Hard to get the leg level even and made some shots
appear unprofessional.
• The handle used for panning would not fit into the bag
properly.
9. Equipment
Strengths of Lighting:
• Ensured shots were visible and clear for the future
audience- also made editing a lot easier.
• Extenuated our thriller conventions- light highlighted
sinister look on the protagonists face in the establishing
shot of her.
10. Equipment
Weakness of Lighting:
• Very bright – had to add dull filters to ensure that it looked
more sinister.
• It shots such as the running through the forest the side
lighting slightly takes away from the whole shot.
11. Equipment
Strengths the microphone:
• Ensured you could hear important parts of scenes – e.g.
the protagonist crying.
• Meant you heard conventional sounds such as door
shutting and footsteps and contributed to continuity
editing and made the piece more realistic.
• Easy to place onto the camera.
• It was not big so did not get in your way whilst filming.
12. Equipment
Weakness of the microphone:
• Because it was good it picked up background noise
aswell which we had to edit out.
• Where there was no background noise ; you can hear a
slight muffling sound behind the protagonist crying.
13. Overcoming Problems:
• Ensured that our battery was fully charged and we were
quick and efficient when filming each shot to make sure
we did not waste time.
• We made sure we took multiple shots of certain scenes in
order to make sure we had the footage we wanted.
• We had to film some scenes again due to fact that we
didn’t have the mic turned on for it.
• As well as this we became better at fixing the camera
onto the tripod as we struggled with this to begin with and
during our preliminary.
15. Technology
iMac:
Strengths:
• Auto save- means we didn’t loose any work.
• Gave us means to software and applications in which we
could edit and polish our thriller opening.
• Meant we could get audience feedback by showing and
recorded it on all on one mac.
Weakness’s:
• Lack of storage.
• Difficult to get used to use to the mac due to the fact that
all three of us don’t own a mac.
16. Technology
Final cut pro:
Strengths:
• Allowed us to edit and make it look as professional as
possible. Even though all of us had very little practice with
editing.
• Made us appear professional.
• We could cut and add filters.
Weakness’s:
• Initially , we struggled with getting used to it as it was a
programme we had only initially used for our preliminary.
17. Technology
• Powerpoint:
• Distribution logo, easy but limited.
• Slide share:
• Upload PowerPoint, had to make a new account.
• Prezi:
• Create funky presentations, difficult to get used to at first but once you
get used to it’s easy to use and it’s quick.
18. How we overcame Editing problems:
• At first we had lost all our audio and thought we would
have to record Foley for all of our scenes. However, we
managed to enable the audio back on which would have
saved us a lot of time than doing Foley.
• Furthermore, we had to add happier music in at the very
last minute in order to show the contrast between the
Sinicism of the dad’s death and the happiness from the
day before.
• As well as this ; we struggled to find the right filter in order
to make the protagonist appear sinister and to make the
opening eerie.
19. What we learnt about editing:
• Cut and trimming.
• Transitions.
• Adding music.
• Adding filters.
• Fading music In and out
• Adding sound effects. E.g the kissing of the lips.
• Adding credits
• Fading the credits in and out.
• Steading of shaky scenes.
20. Documentary Tools:
• YouTube – document’s our process and enabled us to
upload all our progress which includes interviews and
audience research.
• Blogger – Documented all the work we had done
including pre production, production and post production.
• Prezi – Enabled us to create presentations about our
work, difficult to use at first but once you are used to it is
really easy.
• Slide share- This app allowed us to upload each
powerpoint we created.
