1. Evaluation Question 4
Who would be the audience for your media product?
Our audience questionnaire asked a variety of questions
in asking demographics about their age, gender and what
particular age demographic that would enjoy a horror
thriller.
The response we got from the questionnaire showed us that
many people consider our sub genre horror suitable for
those from teenagers to young adults and further up the
demographic scale. Personally this is what I expected
since the majority of the candidates from the
questionnaire are students from reed’s school. Moreover
this proves that our choice of our corrected primary
target audience is appropriate for our subgenre.
Teenagers and young adults is a common target audience
for our sub genre as directors of films want the audience
to share the same belief as the audience (preferred
reading.) ‘When a stranger calls’ is an example of this.
Teenager, Jill Johnson arrives at a luxurious house for a
baby-sitting job, to what she expects is going to be an
ordinary evening. However, as soon as the phone rings, it
turns Jill’s night into an evening of terror. This can be
relatable since many teenagers offer to baby sit for
money. We have implemented this preferred reading into
our film since all of the female victims are in their
teens. Moreover by having teenage victims it can lure a
teenage target audience to relate and connect more with
the film and therefore making the film overall attractive
to a teenage audience. As well as this, teenagers are
2. developing their character and deciding what they like
for themselves.
Research states that young people, especially teenagers
enjoy the horror aspect of thriller films since it give
teenagers an adrenaline rush allowing them to receive an
insight into a dangerous situation without actually
coming into harms way.
Consequently we would expect that the majority of our
audience would consider themselves fans of the
thriller/horror sub genre. Thus we cannot make the
assumption that the majority of teenagers will watch our
film, nor the fact that we can say that our audience will
just be teens and young adults. We would hope that other
demographics/psychographics would take an interest in
streaming our film, purely because they are fans of the
subgenre.
Secondly we would hope that our second target
audience/physiographic to be young/older adults purely
because they like the subgenre and the film appeals to
their taste.
Moreover, by implementing male and female characters the
film appeals to both genders. However if we were to
target this to a wider audience and not just reed’s
student, research shows that females take up the majority
of horror film watchers. So then, we would expect a
higher ratio of females to men watching our film. To
account this, when we market our film or even when we
advertise the film.
On the other hand our secondary audience may be couples.
The reason for this is that many people do not like to
watch horror thriller’s on their own so they rather watch
‘scary’ films with company, since thrillers can be
intimidating and some thrillers can scare people so much
that they fear being in their own house on their own
after watching.
How we have targeted both psychographics?
Creating many teenage characters
A male hit man
Female victims
Creating it thrilling and terrifying
FUTURE: In the marketing and advertising.
